Dyer's confidence levels?

Sorry but other players get stick, as does the team. Look at Nugent, as a main example. Then again, most of the squad has been solid and won't get stick. Dyer's had a great season, I agree, but that shouldn't prevent Mahrez getting a start - I think he deserves one. Form fluctuate at times with certain players and Dyer is obviously struggling at the minute. Thing is about Llyod, when he is off form it is noticeable so much.

There. As I said pre-Ipswich, I think Mahrez deserves a start having showed ability when coming off the bench. I'm not having a personal dig at Dyer, I like him as a person and as a player, but I think we need a change and as a fan I want to express that. Doesn't mean I'm miserable or picking on him, or whatever people want to say.

That's all very well but you and others don't appear to have considered the defensive aspect of starting Mahrez in front of Schlupp.

It's only my opinion as we don't yet know his defensive attributes but I'd think they'd be pretty much the same as Knockaert's. It's all very well bringing Mahrez on at 2-0 up with Ipswich demoralised or down to 10 men at Forest and going all out for an equaliser but starting him is an entirely different matter.

If he starts we'll have the same defensive problem down both sides of the pitch, 2 cocky young wingers that are highly unlikely to cover their full backs when they attack leaving us wide open to the counter down both flanks. We've been getting caught out all season down the right because of Knockaert's covering (or lack of) or him doing something stupid and giving the ball away and it's only De Laet's pace that gets us out of trouble. And people want to purposely give us that down the left with an inexperienced left back? That's a recipe for a defensive disaster and the only way to stop it would be to stop the full backs attacking altogether, cutting down our attacking options and actually making us worse.

If Mahrez is going to start in our normal formation it has to be when Konch is back or at the expense of Knockaert not Dyer.

Thats what people think, because Dyer is at his best when he has space and 1 on 1 with his full back.. People realise how dangerous he is so they double up. This is why recently hes been ineffective.

We still win because we have a good squad and can make the most of the extra guy in the rest of the field. Dyer on the pitch helps this, he balances the team out and is key for the rest of the team. Without him on the pitch the opposition arnt half as worried. They dont double up and they have an extra attacking influence on the RW(because he isnt as worried at coming back). This for me is why Konchesky hasnt been a liability more often because hes had less threat game to game.

In games where we might drop points anyway(Burnley away, Wigan away etc), maybe take him off and see Mayrez, then if we dont win it wouldnt be so obvious, but if we take him off in a banker, like Charlton at home, itll be a waste of 2 or 3 points to mess it up by replacing one of our top players this year.

absolutely top post!

I couldn't agree more buddy...

The whole point of having a squad is to have cover for injuries, loss of form, and to put pressure on the starting 11.

I think dyer has been great this season, but he cannot be picked on his performance over the season, but his form over the last five or six games.

On this basis he could do with being taken out and mahrez given a chance, because dyers main attribute is his pace, and attacking with pace, but lately he seems to not run at them, and hold it up.

Don't know why this is, but he's not himself, all players dip in form, he is clearly upset at the one year offer, and he's played a lot of games this season, and isnt getting younger and may feel a bit of fatigue, whatever it is, nothing against dyer but what's the point of having a squad if we don't rotate when needed, other players see who is in form or not, and if the player out of form for over a month is still getting in, it could cause frustration for them.

Dyer is having his usual early year slump, happens every season. However, he's had his best season for us so far and i'm sure he'll return to form as the season gets to the business end. I'd like to see Mahrez given a start soon and I think Pearson is tempted to change it soon but when we are unbeaten it takes a brave man to make changes and run the risk of upsetting the rhythm of the side. A good manager spots when a players form is suffering and if it's effecting the rest of the side and makes the change, right now Nigel knows it's not and i'm sure he won't hesitate to change it if it does. The same can be said of Nugent whose come in for loads of grief this season, from myself included.

I don't see the reluctance to change dyer tbh,

For the last few games with all due respect, we have been playing without him anyway, So cannot see the harm in starting mahrez over dyer...

All this "Don't change a winning side" nonsence annoys me a bit.

Konchesky has been quite consistent this season with the odd mistake, He wasnt missed....

Moore was hardly missed a great deal...

Wood wasnt missed in the grand scheme of things yet made an impact..

Give mahrez a go

In all fairness Dyer has had a brilliant season so far for us. Maybe give the guy a break, give Mahrez the opportunity to show what he can do.

I thought on Saturday for the first time this season that Dyer looked short of confidence. He was trying to get crosses in too early (rather than beating his full back like he was doing) and was snatching at shots. He's clearly a confidence player and we've seen him wax and wain before. He's got it in pocket.. he needs to put it on the pitch again.

Come on Lloyd.. we love ya man.. up it a level and start impressing us all again.

Maybe Dyer has a lack of confidence because the contract situation is distracting him?

I think he's just that type of character buddy.. we've seen him drop off before.

Lloyd's effort yesterday was there, it was just his decision making and at times hesitation that let him down.

I'd agree he is low on form / confidence at the moment and has had a frustrating couple of games by his own very high standards this season.

Having said that I would back him 100% to find form again in the new few games and put the doubters back into their place with their mouths firmly closed.

I am not sure there are genuine "Doughters" People on here are talking about simple rotation which is natural.. I don't really see anyone saying "He's shit get rid"

This.

People are being too protective of Lloyd. Nobody is baying for his head, in fact many have complimented his hard work for the team this year and great form. I would have no qualms if he did or didn't start at the weekend and I'm sure many fans feel the same way. A fantastic servant and someone we can rely on to do a job.

Hardly fair on Mahrez. I have yet to see him lose the ball of not track back in the hour or so I have seen him plays he seems to know both his defensive role and is able to work with De Laet a lot better than knockaert did when he arrived. For these reasons I'd say he was much more accomplished - so far- than knockaert when he arrived. He's also a year older than knockaert was when he arrived . As much as well all love Anthony's positive attitude for the club he can be hot headed at times and I don't think Mahrez is the same player. He appears much more grounded and less flashy. If anything he is more direct, fitting more with Dyer's style.

That post was just comparing knockaert to Mahrez with no real grounds to base it on. Knockaert and Mahrez are different players and it's time we treated them as different players. Besides we can't keep Mahrez bubble wrapped forever. Best get some experience as it could (if we go up) be an even bigger step up for him next year.

I really dont get this confidence thing .....he's in a team thats flying and on a big run I would expect his confidence to be low if we were the other way round but we are not but his play on saturday was abysmal, ok he might have been marked by a couple of men but he has pace to lose most of them  ....but hardly had a kick second half

and thats why he was subbed, should have done it at half-time, and given the french youngster more match time, to get him udjusted to the pace of the championship

Lloyd Dyer's excellent form earlier on in the season wasn't just noticed by us but by every other club in the league. Players are doubling up on him and giving him far less time on the ball. Other teams are working that little bit harder to stop him, it doesn't look good for him but it frees up so much space for other players.

As for giving him a 'break', we need to be very careful for the next two matches as Dyer has a big impact on the way Schlupp plays. When Schlupp goes forward Dyer stays back and covers. I just can't see Mahrez/Knockaert doing the same.

Again.. very good post and I completely agree.

Lloyd  is brilliant and may get a boost now the Geoff Schlupp is deputising for Konchy.  I think that Schluppy and Dyer could be a real threat on the left they seem to have a telepathic understanding which if Geoff plays well Konchy could find it difficult to get back in.

Thing about lloyd is his pace. Knockhaert won't offer that out and out left wing pace and Mahrez, although apparently can play in that position, has so far only played on the right.

Actually Knockhaert does go back to help out.......sometimes he's a liability at it but he gets back......Lloyd should know by now he's a marked man in any match  same as others are marked down as threats, others respond to the marking, Lloyd did not on Saturday, pace alone is no good if you are  double marked, its all about the ability to lose you're markers
