Going up as CHAMPIONS

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have just been going through all the teams that went up as Champions over the last 5 years -

Cardiff - 2012 2013

Reading - 2001 2012

QPR - 2010 2011

Newcastle - 2009 2010

Wolves - 2008 2009

The only two that are still there Cardiff and Newcastle. Don't think Cardiff will be there next season. What did Newcastle do right to stay there? .

Have you got Cardiff and Swansea mixed up?

Nope. Swansea went up via play-offs the year QPR got promoted.

Ah, Cardiff went up last year though, not in 2012

Im convinced that because we play good attacking passing football we'll be ok. Teams like swansea and Southampton have gone up doing so and have been fine

Agree, what position we finish in should be irrelevant, it's about the quality of football we play.

Every team that has come down or is coming down from that list all sacked the manager that took them up.

I think it's more to do with the quality of those sides than the league position.

Some of those sides (reading,Cardiff) were never good enough for the top flight,  the other two (wolves, qpr) imploded and made poor decisions. Newcastle had a top flight squad in the championship

I was going to start a thread/ask a similar question, in recent years how many teams that go up as Champions stay in the Premiership the following season/for a few seasons.

I am led to believe they have more chance than the 2nd placed teams and certainly the playoff winning team.

Anyone know the success rate of survival?

Whether we finish first or second it will have absolutely no bearing on our chances of staying up next season.

What will have a bearing is our transfer policy, whether the owners have patience if things aren't going well and how our younger players develop and adapt to the league.

What a lot of teams do wrong after promotion is rob the championship of their supposed "best players". Nige and his team won't fall into that trap I'm sure of it, we will follow in the foot steps of Southampton, the idea of building on what you have got and adding extra quality where needed. We won't go mad signing player after player as we have the basis of a very good side already.
