Odds in the Premiership

Got to be worth a quid...surely?

If you want, but to entertain this notion for a second, even if you spend massive amounts of money, taking a club of our stature to the top of the Premier League takes a LOT of time and resources. It even took Manchester City years with the backing they had.

Course it isn't. With the Premier League dominated by money, no team will ever get promoted from the second tier then win, or finish runners up, in the top tier the next season. It used to happen before, didn't Liverpool do it? And Nottingham Forest?

We arn't bankrolled like Chelsea and Manchester City, who can afford to buy any player in the World. You have to have a massive takeover and massive resources to be in with a shout of winning the league hence it's usually between three teams every year.

I think it is the best time for 20 years for a totally left-field club to win the PL.

Man United are in transition and no other club is dominating.  Leeds and Blackburn both managed to win the league in these circumstances around 2 decades ago, and Newcastle had a good go at it.

I'm not saying we will win the PL, just that now is a very good time to try.

Be more worth while giving it to a charity

It was tongue in cheek..

Couldn't it also be argued that Liverpool and Man City are dominating? While Man Utd's reign of terror is definitely over, I wouldn't say the overall league is any weaker really. I love how open it has been this season though

Only 2 teams have ever won the First Division title in their first season after promotion. Ipswich Town in 1961/62 and Nottingham Forest in 1977/78. The respective managers were Sir Alf Ramsey and Brian Clough. It has never happened since and will never happen again.

I think the OP must have misread the odds he saw quoted. We are more likely to be quoted 2,500 to 1 than 250-1. Personally I wouldn't go anywhere near anything less than 1,000- 1.

It's quite depressing when you think that in our lifetime the best we can hope for is an FA Cup run or at the very most a Europa run.

More than likely 7/8th in prem will be the highest we'll ever finish too.

But after the last 10 years I suppose I'd take that.
