Lionator Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 It'll be nice for the stadium to get some more international exposure which can only be a good thing. Also, it's all been organised so that each Football venue will host games in the space of a week. Eg. Brighton's ground is holding games in the first week, the KP is holding them in the last week of the group stages.
hackneyfox Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 If it means a game gets moved to Friday or Monday the they can **** off, we already play few enough games at 3pm on a Saturday.

Pretty sure we have agreed to work around them when we took our thirty bits of silver from the RFU. They would have gone elsewhere otherwise.
Kitchandro Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 You're always going to get the mongy football fans that call it egg chasing and want the Tigers to lose though. Always found it odd. I've always found it odd that Tigers fans seem to think they're more important than football in the City but there you go.
Kitchandro Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 To be honest it's totally wrong whatever. You could be the biggest City fan on the planet but if you genuinely think something like the Rugby World Cup final isn't bigger than any of our matches then it's a level of delusion impossible to comprehend. Rugby is a second rate sport that means nothing to most people. I certainly don't know anyone in my day to day life that will take even a passing interest in the Rugby World Cup. It's hardly comparable to the football world cup, which is watched by a lot of people who don't watch football regularly. The few people who I know who watch the Tigers don't really give a shit either, they just want to watch a successful team. If they were crap at it they'd have the same crowds most Rugby teams get, pitiful ones.
Haydos Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 It's our stadium though. It's Leicester City's ground and so Leicester City games should get priority. If we aren't playing on the date then let them use it, but if we have a league game scheduled then we should tell the egg chasers to get lost. Case in point. Why not grow up for a moment, be reasonable and allow the biggest sporting event in the Rugby world to take place at our ground? Hardly anyone kicks up a fuss when Sky move games under normal circumstances but as soon as it's Rugby everyone's all 'wahh, wahh, egg chasers, wahhhh'. It's an embarrassment.

Not really, you're missing the point, it's a football stadium. Not a rugby stadium. That's why we should get priority. Your argument seems to be that you like Rugby. Which is pretty irrelevant.

You must either not live in Leicester, not have many friends or not play much sport. Based on 2011 player registration numbers there were 2,549,196 registered Rugby players in England so I guess it won't mean nothing to most people. http://www.rugbydump.com/2011/09/2103/rugby-world-cup-daily-player-numbers-around-the-world
leicesterseddon Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 Title of this thread is a bit misleading surely? Doubt this will cause any controversy in the end. They'll just arrange the fixtures around it.

It could be any other World tournament for any other sport and my reaction would be the same. It's our stadium, built for our football. Any other thing (be it sporting events, concerts etc) should be secondary.
My Nads Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 No rugby match is bigger than a Leicester City match. As a City fan that's quite right. As a general sport fan that's totally, utterly wrong. Utterly wrong!?? A Premier league football match has a much larger following than ANY rugby game, World cup or not. Rugby is followed by about 8 countries and its only really loved in New Zealand. The Premier league is watched by far more people worldwide! I'm not anti rugby, I used to play it, but its just not anywhere near as popular as Premier league football.

I feel proud and privalidged that we could host it there, I'm a fan of sport. If it was the football wc v rugby wc I'd feel differently but it's the World Cup clashing with league games that can be moved around.
Weller in Tights Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 You're always going to get the mongy football fans that call it egg chasing and want the Tigers to lose though. Always found it odd. Nice, so football fans that use the term 'egg chasers' are to be called 'mongy', very mature. From my point of view Rugby is without a doubt an inferior sport. But don't take my word for it, look at the facts. Football as a participant sport dwarfs rugby. 2.7m people play football each week in an organised game of some sort ( from kids Sunday football to Premier league). For Rugby its 237,000 people. Rugby is rated the most popular team sport amongst the Tory voting aristocracy that graduate from Eton and Harrow (surely a reason to despise the game). Rugby was first played by overweight students at Rugby public school in 1892 who couldn't play football. Need we say more? Rugby?? IT'S A WASTE OF A FOOTBALL PITCH.
willie-bell-in-rothley Posted 17 April 2014 Author Posted 17 April 2014 Have to agree with Kitchandro it is a sport that largely does not appeal to most sports fans,Football is registered in every country in the world, Rugby struggle to make enough teams to make a world cup competition, it must be the only sport in the world that has a major competition and has not got the stadia to get near to staging it, seems like standing on a bit of scrub land or a car park is a good way to watch this '' MAJOR SPORT'' Its 2014 not the 1930s
My Nads Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 Can anyone remember when Sven had the pitch redone? (was it was something like £250,000) However much it was, it was a lot of money, so it was I don't think rugby should be played on it.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 No rugby match is bigger than a Leicester City match.
Manwell Pablo Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 It seems there is a little bit of controversy over the rugby world cup , 4 premier league league grounds are being used and sky and bt would take preference should they want to screen a football match, dead right in my opinion, what are your thoughts So let me guess this right.....after seasons and seasons of bitching about Sky moving our games we are now advocating their right to do so when it not only messes our fans about but messes up the Rugby World Cup as well? Foxestalk making perfect sense as always

Yes there's loads of Asian countries that 'love' the Premiership but this is huge in the Rugby calendar.

We often pull gates of 24,000.at Welford Road, like last Saturday. When the stadium is finished it should hold 30.000 plus. Rugby is in fact a very major sport. 84,000 sell out crowd at Twickenham last year for the Tigers v Northampton Final., and it could have been sold twice over if there had been space. If you want to talk balls, then keep gobbing off, and show your ignorance of a sport you obviously know nothing about.
One Legged Beaver Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 Dates of Rugby matches only falls on two weekend of our season so it shouldn't be hugely difficult for the FA to just have us play away games on those two weekends? I could swear the dates of the fixtures are usually around the time we have the international break in football anyway?

Haydos Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 more people watch league footall in scotland than premier rugby in england , major sport????????? That's because Football is more popular than Rugby, we already established that a while ago.
DennisNedry Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 As mentioned before, our pitch has had a lot of money spent on it. I'm not keen on 30 blokes built like tanks tearing up the surface. I also hate the rugby lines left on the pitch afterwards too, it must be distracting to the players

Hilarious, I make up a few facts to bait the Rugby 'fans' and they bite straight away. Love it, Dangerous Tiger, what a star, always very reasoned opinions.
