katieakita Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 You can well argue that Welford Road is the best club rugby ground in the country and a capacity of 24,000 will be larger than many of the venues certainly the club rugby grounds but believe it is more to do with the size of the pitch. Also looking at the games chosen for the KP it may look like the old Ricoh for some of them.
Haydos Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 I think the main issue is that it is being played at our ground, if it was a case that the game was at Welford Road and both matches couldn't be played on the same day then some on here might be a bit more understanding. It doesn't really bother me as it might not even affect us, we might well play away on these days, then there is no real issue at all. I'm sure we'll cope So what's the problem then? Welford Road is too small to be used but let's just say it wasn't and these matches were being held there. We wouldn't be able to play here on the same day anyway so for all intents and purpose people are getting prissy over the fact that they have the audacity to want to use a bigger stadium. Hardly anyone has mentioned the pitch so it seems that we can assume that most people are being whiny because they think rugby is proper gay or whatevs. So wait you don't know anyone who will take even a passing interest in the World Cup? Yet you know people who go an watch the Tigers? Surly these people would take at least a passing interest in the World Cup?
CosbehFox Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 Have you seen the games though? Argentina v Tonga is the only game worth seeing at our stadium and the pricing for that game is horrific. I'm not paying 35 quid to sit in the corner of Canada v Romania. They dropped a bollock there. They should have made the minnow games scheduled for proper rugby stadiums. Some of the scheduling defines logic - Brighton is used for two average group games. The bottom line is they wanted as many available seats as possible to make a profit.
CosbehFox Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 You can well argue that Welford Road is the best club rugby ground in the country and a capacity of 24,000 will be larger than many of the venues certainly the club rugby grounds but believe it is more to do with the size of the pitch. Also looking at the games chosen for the KP it may look like the old Ricoh for some of them. The pitch is a bit of an excuse. At the end of day, it's a potential extra 24k tickets they can sell over the three games. Pricing a terracing stand spot at £30 upwards was/is going to fail. Hence Welford Road doesn't get it.
fuchsntf Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 Ok don't it take it seriously. But don't claim you're not taking it seriously and then lose your rag about it. It looks pretty childish. My Uncle used to play rugby. It doesn't mean it meant anything to him as a sport, he just played it. I play crazy golf occasionally but you won't catch me watching the masters. Your uncle played rugby ( could be any sport) and you say " he just played it and doesnt mean anything" So you insult your uncle by saying he loved wasting his life, especially 3-4 hrs at the weekend, and maybe a couple of Hrs in the week training. To play for any junior Rugby team even down to the 4th team you would have to train to get picked.
fuchsntf Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 Fair point. Is it/was it really the responsibiltiy of the RFU to develop Welford Road? Genuine question. I thought that would be down to the Tigers and the city fathers etc etc> I still think football should take second place this time around. Far all the rugby bashing on here I would be more than happy for us to be as comparatively successful as the Tigers have been over the past 15/20 years. Your under cooking it, Tigers have been successfull way back in the amateur days since they were founded..1820.I follow both and more sports...this my willy is bigger than yours attitude from all sides is quite pathetic. Rugby is not played just by the so called snobs, it is a game where you might find yourself playing and socialising after the game and at club events, with your boss, butcher, foreman, guys working the m/cs down the next aisle to you, postman, neighbours you might never have spoken to.plus all on first name basis . And my god some footballers dont half winge, and complain their whole life through, including this site. But I still love the banter, the different views, on both sports terraces or playing fields, and the modern social media.
LAprice_ Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 Let's just play the rugby match and the football match on the same pitch at the same time. Everybody wins. Seriously though, let's just wait until the event actually takes place. There's very little point in speculating. The world cup isn't for another 17months!
Guest MattP Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 So wait you don't know anyone who will take even a passing interest in the World Cup? Yet you know people who go an watch the Tigers? Surly these people would take at least a passing interest in the World Cup? Anyway, why we have King Power here they wil want to maximise the use of their brand name, while we can argue all day about a premier league game vs rugby WC game and which will get more viewers. The fact is they will get different viewers, thus maximising king powers brand to different audiences. If they can get millions watching around the world one week when we are at home to Liverpool, and then millions of different people the next week as a Rugby WC game takes place, they will do it. The more exposure they get, the better their buisness, the longer they stay with us and the more money they pump in. Love or hate Rugby this will be good for Leicester City as a buisness. Great point in the top paragraph! The King Power stuff is quite irrelevant though, it will be referred to as Leicester City Stadium and all King Power advertising will have to be removed for the games.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 Rugby's a middle class toffs sport. Hardly anyone in the city of Leicester give two ducks about the Tigers. Leicestershire, then yes. Tiger's fans cheer when Leicester lose so pot kettle black. Honestly wish Tigers would move out of Leicester and play in some toff village in Leicestershire. Rugby word cup is hardly a giant thing in the sporting world. Just basically a commonwealth thing like cricket.

Trumpet Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 I work in the city, with a mixture of city and county folk. I'm one of only two LCFC season ticket holders in my office but there's quite a few Tigers fans here. I'd say more of my team follow rugby than football. Of our wider staff I know a lot of other big Tigers fans. Of course football's a bigger sport but to claim nobody follows rugby is just stupid. If Sink doesn't know a single rugby fan it probably says more about how big his social circle is (which probably won't surprise many on here, given his apparent lack of all social graces) than the popularity of the sport in this country. Everyone went ****ing nuts when Wilko sank the Aussies. I've always found that if someone doesn't like football / city, they will just automatically follow or show an interest in rugby / tigers. It just seems automatic.
absolutelegend Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 Rugby is awful. Always has been the sport for the fat kids at school who couldnt do anything else. End of.
fuchsntf Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 Rugby is awful. Always has been the sport for the fat kids at school who couldnt do anything else. End of.I would use some decent vocabulary, but it would be wasted on a neanderthal like yourself.Go down any junior club, Tigers thursday nights, the top 15 rugby schools, just in Leic'shire, you'll find some big lads but they would grind you down in any training session. Plus it may suprise you how many ex good youth footballers turn to rugby. In fact quite a few years ago South Leicester Rfc, Ayelstone Rfc, the old Westleigh RFC, took on 1-3 of their local soccer rivals, in return games of the 2 disciplines. 2 RFCs drew 1 won 2, the other lost 1 won 2..In the Rugby games some games never finished, the others were won by the RFCs, lets say comfortably.....That said, the soccer players enjoyed the after match get together, with food and drink, plus though scores were on the high side, 90% of the soccer players did play and aquit themselves quite well. The soccer players learnt what they couldnt get away with, with the ref, even drinking and talking to him after the game and rugby players learnt not all soccer players are pansies. But really it doesnt matter, in the end it was a group of lads and men who enjoyed their sport, whatever the game..
absolutelegend Posted 19 April 2014 Posted 19 April 2014 I didn't even realise that the rugby world cup was taking place before i read this thread.
TheRutlandfox Posted 19 April 2014 Posted 19 April 2014 Bit in todays press saying our promotion (assuming we are still in the prem after the first year) could cause issues using the KP for the Rugby if Sky or BT want to show a game at the KP on the date of the rugby fixture at short notice, as footy will always take priority Some p!! poor comments about our stadium being used by some sour grapes Tigers fans by the looks of it In the comments section as well which is a shame http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2606293/Leicesters-promotion-cause-scheduling-conflicts-Rugby-World-Cup.html Looks good though in print , "Leicester’s King Power Stadium will be the fourth PL ground being used for the tournament along with Villa Park, St James’ Park and the Etihad Stadium — provided all clubs involved avoid relegation next season""

absolutelegend Posted 20 April 2014 Posted 20 April 2014 I just assumed the chap saying "soccer" was american. If not then very odd.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 20 April 2014 Posted 20 April 2014 Hilarious, I make up a few facts to bait the Rugby 'fans' and they bite straight away. Love it, Dangerous Tiger, what a star, always very reasoned opinions. Gonna bite yer legs off!
