King Power to be used for rugby ahead of premier league

Recommended Posts

It seems there is a little bit of controversy over the rugby world cup , 4 premier league league grounds are being used and sky and bt would take preference should they want to screen a football match, dead right in my opinion, what are your thoughts

So people on a football forum would prefer to watch football? That's odd.

Have a day off, the Rugby World Cup is much, much bigger than a few early season football matches.

I think it'd serve the RFU right if football matches were given preference and rugby World Cup games got moved. They should have pulled their finger out and got the stadiums the intended to use, like Welford Road, ready instead of relying on football grounds.

That argument only works with Welford Road. There isn't another ground like it. Most other rugby grounds in England look like league one / two stadia. Sarries play on something that resembles Saffron Lane with a few temp stands.

I agree they should have used Welford Road but I don't resent the RWC coming to KPS. We should be honoured, for a start, and it's extra revenue which can't hurt.

Plus, one or two games of rugby won't hurt the pitch.

Oh i don't resent them for using the KP, I just think it's a poor show. They didn't really have much to sort in term of stadia and they failed, and I actually feel really sorry for the Tigers, left with a half built stadium that's neither a traditional old ground nor a shiny brand new one. Even if it would only apply to Leicester, it would still serve them right if they were forced to move World Cup games.

I believe that WR couldn't be used because the width of the pitch is too narrow for international rugby.

What's the problem anyway? It's good for the city to host a WC game , both in prestige and financially, it's hardly going to put us out much.

The whole idea of spreading the games around the country is to provide a chance for people not just in London to see international rugby. I'm a football supporter through and through but I'm certainly going to try and take in a game at our stadium and it is good for the city that three matches are being played here. By playing games at top class stadia with greater supproter capacities than the country's rugby grounds more people have a chance to go.

The rugby world cup schedule has been known for ages and which stadia are going to be used. Football should take second place just for once it wouldn't do it any harm.

I was going to go to one of the World Cup games until I saw the pricing. They make football prices look almost reasonable.

I won't do harm anyway, Leicester City centre needs all the economic investment it cab get.

Actually the prices aren't that bad for some games. £20-35 for cheaper group games. Obviously thay are the cheapest seats. I was lucky enough to go to a couple of group games in the 2006 world cup and the tickets cost 100 euros each through the FIFA officialsite.

The knockout stages are pricey though.

We've got 3 matches at the KP (Sunday 4th Oct, Tuesday 6th Oct & Sunday 11 Oct). I'm sure these will be factored into the fixture list by the Premier League so not an issue.

No rugby match is bigger than a Leicester City match.

Have you seen the games though?

Argentina v Tonga is the only game worth seeing at our stadium and the pricing for that game is horrific.

I'm not paying 35 quid to sit in the corner of Canada v Romania.

As a City fan that's quite right.

As a general sport fan that's totally, utterly wrong.

To be honest it's totally wrong whatever.

You could be the biggest City fan on the planet but if you genuinely think something like the Rugby World Cup final isn't bigger than any of our matches then it's a level of delusion impossible to comprehend.

I know, but I like to be diplomatic.

You're always going to get the mongy football fans that call it egg chasing and want the Tigers to lose though. Always found it odd.

Absolutely this. Is it not rather insulting that the KP was chosen ahead of Welford Road?

And our poor award winning pitch, how will it cope with with 30 18-stone men trampling around on it for 80 minutes, it will be wrecked before the season even starts!

I do it's not and never will be bigger than premier league football.

Not even proper Rugby league just a load of public school twits rolling round bumming each other

It's our stadium though. It's Leicester City's ground and so Leicester City games should get priority.

If we aren't playing on the date then let them use it, but if we have a league game scheduled then we should tell the egg chasers to get lost.

It is, but I'm sure the owners had a say in allowing it to be used in return for some £££. It's not like they RFU are rocking up and hijacking the stadium against our will. Presumably it was requested, and agreed to. The fixtures will be arranged around it.
