Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 Does anyone know the exact ruling on Under 21 players in the 25 man prem squad, I've tried to find out, but it just keeps on referring to U21 players don't need to be named in the 25 man squad, but looking at last season's squads Jack Wilshire and others who were 21 weren't in the 25. Does anyone know when the cut off is? The squad needs to be submitted by the 5th of September, but is that the cut-off for being 21? We have Schlupp, Moore and Miquel (if he signs) all 21 at the minute, do they need to be names in the 25? We would also have Adam Smith as a 21 year old as back up, back up but not in the squad, whether that would change Pearson's priorities in looking for a keeper, or if we signed a back up keeper would we keep Logan, or Smith as back up so we have an extra place in the 25.

artursteppe Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 I think Liam Moore and Tom Hopper are Under 21s, so would not need to be included in the '25', But for example Ignassi Miquel and Jacob Blythe would.

Yeah that's right, or at least that's how I understand it. Moore is 21 now but was born 31st Jan 1993 (jesus that makes me feel old) So he wouldn't need to be named in the 25. I just looked through Southampton;s '25 man squad' for last season. They only needed to name 18 players. So much confidence in their English youth. So refreshing.

That makes sense as Wilshire was classed as U21 last season and he turned 22 on Jan 1st this year, so that would mean Adam Smith and Jeff Schlupp will need be included in the 25.

I haven't found anywhere that clearly defines the rule, which is why I asked the question, I'm amazed at how difficult it is to find out, the cut off date could even change when the 25 man squad has to be resubmitted at the end of Jan. As for the signings, we could have the likes of Smith, Dawson, Blyth in the Squad in September with a view to replacing them with new signings in January. With Dyer and others potentially leaving too, it is going to be an interesting summer for NP and co.

I didn't think there were squad limits in the Football League, and there was always the option of Loans, which we won't have next season after the squad has been submitted. I have found confirmation that you are classed as Under 21 if you were born after 01/01/1993 at least it was 01/01/1992 last season. So who is definitely in the Squad: GK: Hamer RB: RDL CB: Morgan CB: Was LB: Konch LB: Schlupp CM: Drinkwater CM: James CM: King CM: Hammond W: Mahrez W: Knocky FWD: Vardy FWD: Wood FWD: GTF Contract talks: GK: Kasper W: Dyer FWD: Nugent U21: CB: Moore FWD: Hopper Doubtful: Gallagher Futacs Logan Blyth Smith Dawson looks a little lighweight at the moment, but we have a whole summer to complete it, lets hope we don't do a Palace and sign players that don't even make our 25 man squad.

Futacs too. They are vey much dead wood and would be amazed if they are named in the squad.As for goalkeeping, with today's addition of Hamer and presuming Kasper signs on and assuming we will take 3 goalkeepers in the squad then I would imagine it will be Logan or Smith with the other being loaned out or sold. With that in mind Smith may get some football league experience first and for the near future we remain with Conrad. Surely Dawson an/or Blyth will be loaned out. Add 4/5 signings to take us up to around 22/3/4 I think we will begin the season that sized saunas giving us the option to add on loan in between windows or strengthen in January.

You can't add loans in between windows, the squad you name in September is the squad you have until January, I think the only exception would be an emergency loan for a goalkeeper.

We can get rid of them today if we pay up there contracts. If not we are stuck with them as no one can afford the wages we pay they. Plus gally has a clause and now has a wage rise. Prem wages to play for PNE again.

Greatness_Since_1884 Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 Wilshere was in because they have to have a certain number of home grown players, so even if he didn't need to be it allowed them to fulfil their quota. But I don't think, with the way Nigel operates, he'd sign players for the sake of filling the 25 man squad. He's big on team unity etc so then to sign players to be on the periphery and fill a list I can't see him doing and I think we'll go under the 25 personally Schemeichel/Hamer/Logan De Laet/NEW RB Morgan/Moore*/Wasyl/Upson Schlupp/Konchesky King/James/Drinkwater/Hammond/NEW CM Knockaert/Mahrez/(Albrighton)/NEW WINGER Nugent/Wood/Vardy/GTF/Hopper*/NEW CF I can see us rolling with that. Keep the core of last years champion squad whilst adding sufficient quality in the right areas

Finnegan Posted 23 May 2014 Posted 23 May 2014 I'm all for rewarding the players that got us here - the ones that really got us here - but I really hope giving places to GTF and Hammond doesn't turn out to be a complete waste.
