No it's when you put the Windows installation disc in, boot to disc and then run a first repair.

That's how we do it for the C drive anyway to repair the Windows installation.

A new processer may not make that much difference to your system. Depending on your motherboard will depend on what processer you can get, it may have the same socket but your motherboard might not like it. Also, you will need some thermal paste to apply on top of your new processor to keep it cool.

What are your other specs?

Ever since I've had wireless broadband a lot of pictures just don't appear on here. I only know that there is one if I click reply and see the writing.

This doesn't happen on my kid's netbook. Does anybody know what to do?

Could be your security setting in windows is on medium or above

Can anyone recommend a good DVD copying piece if software?

Its a real ball ache copying DVDs especially if they are dual layer as most are now. Have you a dual layer DVD burner?

I'm at work at the mo so I'll find out when i get home.What does that mean?

I managed to stumble upon a free version of Nero 9 last night,its seemed to do the job,but any alternatives would be good.

DL DVDs can be burnt to contain twice as much info as a standard DVD and still be read by DVD players. You need a special DVD Rom to burn them. Last time I tried it took 6 hours just to read the DVD and make an image for burning.

Nero is good but you have to remove the protection by fooling Nero it isn't protected. For that you need AnyDVD

A shy question from a Mac user here. :blush:

For a few weeks now I've been unable to download anything other than .mp3 files from the web. For instance, whenever I want to download a software like MainMenu (which acts as a cache cleaner and offers other repair services), I do get to the downloading screen, but the download itself won't start at all. I can wait for minutes and the download status bar on the lower right hand side (I use Firefox) doesn't move an mu, nothing happens. Won't proceed.

First I thought it had something to do with my Firewall, but it hasn't been changed ever since I got my Mac last summer.

Maybe an issue with Firefox user profiles? I've searched the web and have come across some helpdesk sites that tell similar stories.

But now that I've switched over from the default profile, the problem's still reoccurring.

What's wrong?

Socket 775 Thats good. You get plenty of processers that fit them. Now you know your socket, you need to find out what Processers will be compatible with your motherboard.

I looked on your Motherboard website here

* Intel Celeron D 3xx and 4xx models

* Intel Pentium 4 5xx and 6xx models

* Intel Pentium D 8xx and 9xx models

* Intel Core 2 Duo models with LGA775

* 533 / 800 / 1066 MHz FSB

So you can get Intel Core 2 Duo processers with a Socket 775.

Do you know your current processer by the way?

Thats what it says in the System Information.

The sound keeps cutting out at random intervals on my laptop. It's only for a couple of seconds at a time but it keeps happening quite frequently (perhaps every ten seconds). Any help would be much appreciated. :)

A few things to try:

Try and update the drivers for your sound card. Depending on your OS which I'm assuming is Windows...Go to Control Panel > Device Manager > Right Click and select properties on your speakers/sound card under the Sound, Video, Game Controllers option. Select the Driver tab > and update driver. If that doesn't pick up anything and it says its already updated then your next step will be to contact the manufacturer of your speakers/laptop.

You could go straight to the manufacturer and see if they have anything on their support site. What is the make and model for your laptop??

After about 20 mins on my computer the internet gets really (and I mean really) slow. A little balloon came up my computer this morning saying that my virtual memory is too low, but it didn't tell me what to do about it. Is there anything I can do myself?

Get more RAM.

Try changing the page file.
