Did we use McArthur?

It's simple really......who would you have wanted to sign for City? Cambiasso or McArthur?.......................Are you really bothered what tactics/methods we used to seal the deal as such?

Football is a cut throat business with millions of pounds at stake....Well played Leicester.

Just catching up on this. Rosler needs to speak to his Chairman before blaming others,As Babylon has pointed out ,without the full terms of an offer being agreed there is no deal.

As with Brighton, Watford.earllier this window, and QPR today news of an offer has leaked from the players club.Had Wigan/DW been discreet until the deal was finalised McArthur could not have felt disappointed that nothing came of the negotiatins

I can see where you're coming from..and I agree.

But personally, I'd have liked to have signed both actually.

I'm waiting to see what Cambi can offer, but with McArthur, that was a signing that i thought would be a good one for the club. He's also a very good player.

According to Cambiasso, McArthur was only 4th choice anyway.

Now the question is, are Wigan using this potential disappointment as a trick to get McArthur to stay for another season at least.

I stated it doesn't look good/cover us in glory. Which I stand by, I don't think the article does.

Yes I understand the structure had to be agreed on payment but the valuation was agreed between the clubs, very similar to suarez/Barcelona. I'm assuming we didn't agree a structure on the £5m bid either but that constituted a bid, it had to have done because we returned. And because it suits us, the £7m wasn't because it wasn't agreed how we pay it.

I agree there is legs in that he should have announced it until it was done and dusted but my point is a side of dave whelan. we agreed to meet a valuation for a player, so the player would obviously be told, in my opinion, just to push cambiasso which I think is slightly poor form on the player.

I don't think anyone would like it if one of our players were used like that.

Insightful. Muppet.

I summed up the situation in 6 words.  Seems insightful to me.

For me, Pearson put this to bed emphatically in his presser.  "I never talk about other club's players or deals, and I am not going to do it now".  Mr. Whelan should keep such counsel.  He would be much better off.

Wigan sound about like Burnley to me these days - a small time Lancashire outfit who feel like they are victims of the modern football world.  Oh well.

Pay structure is an integral part of an offer. Amongst other things it will have a bearing on FFP.

Think this was a case of Whelan suffering a case of premature ejaculation at the prospect of £7 million and then finding out that he'd run out of tissues.

I find it strange Whelan and Rosler are publicly trying to pass the buck, as if not accepting a pay structure lays the blame at out door - it's surely just as much their fault as it ours?

As for whether we used him to speed up the Cambiasso deal, I'm not sure. From what was said by Cambiasso and Pearson in the press conference yesterday, I'd say not. But they may well have been saying the usual stuff about 'always wanting to come her etc'

Would have liked to have had him here, but oh well

Pay structure (if we're talking installments rather than "add-ons") won't effect FFP.

The accounting takes no notice of when you pay for a player, just when you sign him.

Who used who here?

Our club have made no public comment on the player.

As the Cambiasso situation dragged on (and he was always the number one target), Leicester had to sound out other options just in case it didn't happen - and they did this privately.

Whelan on Wednesday then said they'd accepted our bid for McArthur - repeated by most media outlets, local and national. My information (and information also subsequently given to the Mercury) was that Leicester strongly disagreed with Whelan's assessment of the situation. (And that's putting it lightly.)

One might argue Whelan spoke publicly to hurry us along and/or circulate the availability and price of a player he was keen to offload.

I don't see how we used McArthur at all. I do think Wigan used us a bit.

A lot of transfers are conducted privately - some happen, some don't - but you don't get all this bitching from one club to another. Wigan made it public, their manager now has to back his chairman.

It could've played out very differently - and without fuss - had it not been brought into the public domain. And it wasn't us who did that.

summed up perfectly but jeffy :appl:

whats more to discuss?
