Babylon Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Isn't almost everything on here opinions? If we only spoke in facts from the club, this place wouldn't have much information would it?So you think it's right to take a pop at the club when you don't know the full story? Whether its this or anything else I'm sick of people using everything to beat the manager, the DOF etc with. There are a certain group who I don't think understand the concept of 'benefit of doubt'. I would have thought the nonsense about Pearson and his "fall outs" would have made a few people realise that they know only a fraction of the detail. People were saying they wanted rid of him because of that. That he was making us lose out on great players like Danns, Mills and Beckford because of his ego, because he couldn't work with "big name" players etc. Stuff like that can be poisonous and damaging. Thankfully they were all made to look stupid, but a bit of brain engagement before taking the knife out and it wouldn't have happened to start with. Now posing a question, and wondering if there is a problem there is one thing. Using it as categorical fact to beat people with us something else.
Itsthejoeker Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 What kind of person says goodbye to everyone at the club before his transfer fee is even agreed?
davieG Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Did Whelan use LCFC by announcing the potential transfer, even though it's well known that Pearson likes it all done quietly in order to start a bidding war and when we didn't want to play that game they put the blame on LCFC. Just as feasible if not more likely.
Webbo Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 It's quite possible that Wigan and McArthur were told the situation at the time that the deal would only go through if Cambiasso didn't sign.
Westlife Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 I think Wigan's public running commentary of the whole transfer leaves a poor taste in the mouth. Whelan knew exactly what he was doing and for Rosler to make out that we are the 'bad guys' in all this is again slightly unsporting. Transfers collapse quite regularly and clubs move on. I doubt Pearson will have much to say about it in response . . .

Which I stand by, I don't think the article does. Yes I understand the structure had to be agreed on payment but the valuation was agreed between the clubs, very similar to suarez/Barcelona. I'm assuming we didn't agree a structure on the £5m bid either but that constituted a bid, it had to have done because we returned. And because it suits us, the £7m wasn't because it wasn't agreed how we pay it. I agree there is legs in that he should have announced it until it was done and dusted but my point is a side of dave whelan. we agreed to meet a valuation for a player, so the player would obviously be told, in my opinion, just to push cambiasso which I think is slightly poor form on the player. I don't think anyone would like it if one of our players were used like that. It's called negotiation. Look it up. Insightful. Muppet.
MPH Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 It's quite possible that Wigan and McArthur were told the situation at the time that the deal would only go through if Cambiasso didn't sign. I personally favour the idea that Whelan couldnt wait to kick McArthur out the door get his hands on the money and couldnt keep his gob should about it.
EnglishOxide Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Don't think Leicester have conducted themselves badly at all. Until everything but a medical and contract signing has been agreed chairmen shouldn't go round shouting that a deal has been done. I do think he was a legit backup target and by Whelan publicising this bit of business it pushed the Cambiasso deal over the line, so he basically talked himself out of a deal! I'm glad anyway. We never needed 2 CMs. Just the one will do. We're looking strong when James and DD are back.
Harry - LCFC Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 What kind of person says goodbye to everyone at the club before his transfer fee is even agreed? I thought this too. Was he just going to turn up and sign the contract without looking at it? Was he that confident he'd sign? Wouldn't have thought so.
Matt Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Whelan is in the same category as Holloway, Mandaric, Redknapp, et al. A media whore. He loves getting on SSN.
mhs123 Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Wwll it is so obvious we will get Wigan away in the third round of the FA cup.
Rasmic123 Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 lost a lot of respect for wigan after this, this might put a few clubs off doing business with whelan if he's going to run to the media everytime something bad happens
iancognito Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 We've not 'used' anyone. Pearson is famous for keeping it zipped about transfers until they're done and personally I'd have pulled the plug when Whelan opened his trap about it. If Whelan hadn't have mentioned it, no-one would be any the wiser. I wouldn't rule us out of a deal for McArthur yet. These deals are the sorts that get resurrected at 9pm on deadline day. If the midfield looks weak against Arsenal, it might just tip the management towards getting another body in.
MrSpaM Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 It's not our fault their chairman announced to the world it was practically a done deal.
Corky Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 How can we use someone when a fee or payment structure hadn't been agreed? Surely we wouldn't be able to discuss terms with him until that happened and it seems as though it hadn't.

True, but it is possible that Cambiasso was told that they were in talks with another player and needed a yes or no pronto!
easilee Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Dave Whelan after our initial bid..... "We recieved a bid from Leicester and we've given them our reply this morning - he's not for sale at that price. Our number one priority is the club, the second is the player, and we always look at things in that order. I wouldn't stand in the way of anybody wanting to play in the Premier League though, so we'll see how much Leicester want him." He knew what he was doing.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Let's be bluntly honest. Football is no longer a sport, as such, but it is, a bloody great business. That means that no one cares a damn whether they are seen in a good light or not. It's just ensuring you get what you want, and if it means leaving a trail of squashed bollocks behind, then so be it!
21st Century Fox Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 Blatantly covering for gobshite Whelan unsettling his own player in public. Liverpool dropped negotiations with Eto'o when they signed Balotelli, it happens all the time.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 29 August 2014 Posted 29 August 2014 The only thing shorter than Whelan's wrinkly old todger is the queue of women waiting to get off with Lamby
