davieG Posted 25 August 2005 Posted 25 August 2005 Windass Wigan 'fail in move for Windass' Dean Windass Windass has played for eight league clubs in the past 14 years Wigan have failed in a shock £450,000 bid for 36-year-old Bradford striker Dean Windass, according to reports. Latics manager Paul Jewell, who worked with Windass when he was Bantams boss, is on the lookout for a striker after Nathan Ellington joined West Brom. His move for Windass, who has scored seven goals in five games this season, is a surprise considering his age. But Bradford have rejected the offer, leaving Jewell - who is also keen on Norwich's Dean Ashton - frustrated. Canaries boss Nigel Worthington insists 21-year-old Ashton is not for sale, while Trabzonspor say they have received no bid for Turkey star Fatih Tekke, who is also believed to be on Wigan's shortlist. Despite promotion to the Premiership, the Latics have endured problems all summer trying to land transfer targets. Scott Parker chose Newcastle ahead of them when he left Chelsea, while Sheffield United turned down a £4m bid for midfielder Phil Jagielka. Source
Ian Posted 25 August 2005 Posted 25 August 2005 It is reported that Wigan have FAILED to land Dean 36 year old Windass for a reported £450,000!!! If this is true it just goes to show how desperate they are to get players in ahead of the transfer window closing. If Windass is worth £450K then if there is any truth in them being interested in Connolly i think we might be in for a bumpy ride!! Fingers crossed.
Guest Posted 25 August 2005 Posted 25 August 2005 Or perhaps they went for Windass because they've already been told where to go with regards to Connolly?
shen Posted 25 August 2005 Posted 25 August 2005 Kind of stupid business by Bradford if you ask me. 450,000 for the highest paid member of the squad who's now 36 is silly money...surely this isn't a true story...
Ricey Posted 25 August 2005 Posted 25 August 2005 This can't be true, Windass is a brickie who somehow became a professional footballer. Awful player, Wigan are getting so desperate.
Hitesh Posted 25 August 2005 Posted 25 August 2005 This true?? I have just watched a bit of SSN and they said a bid has been accepted.
Thracian Posted 25 August 2005 Posted 25 August 2005 Reckon I'd accept a bid of two crates of decent red wine for Windass. He'll stay on the footballing merry-go-round til he drops. They'll be sending scouts to Thringstone next.

rossporterlc Posted 25 August 2005 Posted 25 August 2005 bit of a move down from owen, especially with the money they have, they seem to be finding it hard to attract players to the club though
Anish Posted 25 August 2005 Posted 25 August 2005 What on earth are Bradford playing at??? £450,000 for Windass, I'd bite their hands off with an offer like that! He's 36 ffs, he can't go on for much longer and £450k is a hell of a lot of money!
Ultra Posted 25 August 2005 Posted 25 August 2005 Or perhaps they went for Windass because they've already been told where to go with regards to Connolly? 163223[/snapback] Yeah that sounds about right. A desperate move. Windass didn't set the Premiership alight before, so he's not likely to do so now.
Bluefoxtim Posted 25 August 2005 Posted 25 August 2005 OMG I remember DEAN WINDYARSE!!!!!! HAHAHAhAHAAHHAHAHAAH was linked with Leicester at every available opportunity a few years back. But Wigan & Windyarse...??? They must be desperate

dhermon Posted 26 August 2005 Posted 26 August 2005 hmmm what do u do sell or keep if you are bradford $450k is nice money for a 36 yr old add to the fact their broke BUT if they did sell him then who the hell would get the goals for them as he is the only player that seems to score for them week in week out

However, as Bradford need every penny they can get, the pressure will be on to sell, I think.

Gené and Tonic Posted 26 August 2005 Posted 26 August 2005 I can't see why they aren't going for Abbott. Much younger than Windass, scored more goals than him last year, and is on par with him this year. The experience I guess.
Muz Posted 26 August 2005 Posted 26 August 2005 450K for a 36 year old League one striker This show's that they are really desperate they are.
Libertine Posted 7 September 2006 Posted 7 September 2006 Apparently they bid for him again on deadline day this year.
lcfc_jme Posted 7 September 2006 Posted 7 September 2006 confused me quite a bit when I first looked at it, checked it twice and saw the date was 2005. Explains it all....
Shum Posted 7 September 2006 Posted 7 September 2006 Bradford have revealed they turned down a transfer deadline day bid from Premiership club Wigan for 37-year-old striker Dean Windass. Wigan offered £350,000, with a further £150,000 to follow if the club retained their Premiership status. Windass, who has two seasons left to run on his contract at Bradford, was not informed of Wigan's interest The offer was Wigan boss Paul Jewell's third attempt to bring Windass to the JJB Stadium. Wigan made the bid at 1900 BST on Thursday 31 August, five hours before the transfer window closed. But the Bantams chairman Julian Rhodes decided the amount of money on offer was not enough to part with Windass. Windass was said to be "disappointed" by Bradford's decision not to inform him of the bid.
