ADK Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-30090003 Be careful if you are in Scotland and have a cheeky pint or two...
Guest MattP Posted 19 November 2014 Posted 19 November 2014 How do they even manage to keep the locals off the booze long enough to pass the test?
Larry_LCFC Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 Never touch a drop if I'm driving. I totally support Scotland in that, I think the limit is far too high in this country.
ScouseFox Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 Yeah gotta say I've never really seen the point in the limit being a little bit, should just be nothing. avoids any morons claiming confusion or only had one or any other shit excuse, just don't drink if you're going to drive somewhere after. obviously can't be dead zero because of the next morning and however long it takes to get out your system but don't have an issue with it being low enough to accommodate last nights beers but not tonight's.
ealingfox Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 If you're careless/thick/shit at driving enough to kill someone after 1 pint, you'll be careless/thick/shit at driving enough to kill someone sober. How productive do you think the limit being nothing would be?
Larry_LCFC Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 It would be a nightmare to police a zero limit in fairness. Cops are stretched as it is. I do however think it should be halved from 35. That's quite a few pints for some people.
ADK Posted 20 November 2014 Author Posted 20 November 2014 I like it as it is to be honest. I can drive to a village pub and enjoy a pint and have a meal without having to worry about being over some arbitrary limit. The higher limit makes it easier to draw a line between what is legal and what is not. Nobody can have any complaints if they are caught.
MikeyT Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 I barely ever drink as it is, but If I was out and was the driver I wouldn't touch a drop anyway. Not worth it.
leicsmac Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 I have something of a personal inclination against drunk driving due to history, so I'd be perfectly happy with a complete zero-limit (taking into account having drank previous night etc) approach to it. I don't care who you are or if you think you can put one or two away and it not affect your judgement...if you drink and then get behind the wheel of a car soon after your judgement IS impaired and as a result you are boosting the risk of doing harm to yourself, and more importantly other people. It's criminally irresponsible.
yorkie1999 Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 Its okay coming up with ideas to reduce fatalities and accidents but there's hardly any coppers to actually enforce them and from what i can gather, police forces are implementing more cuts which means even less traffic divisions. What's the difference between having a pint and driving and using a mobile phone and driving, and i see an awful lot of drivers doing that and if i can see them then they've probably not been pulled for it previously which means no police are seeing an obvious visual offence, so how are they going to deal with a non-visual offence such as slightly over the limit drink driving. They can make it a zero tolerance to any alcohol in your blood stream, but if there's no-one to enforce the law, it's not going to work, much like those speed sensor signs that have sprung up everywhere, you're not going to get done even if you're doing 100 in a 30. The government have replaced traffic police with speed cameras and warning signs meaning there's no or little enforcement and self policing seems to be the next "great idea", i bet the revenues from them have fallen through the floor after drivers have learned where all the speed camera sights are, and you're not going to do someone for drink driving with a speed camera.
Fox92 Posted 20 November 2014 Posted 20 November 2014 Not worth touching anything if you're driving. All you're doing is putting yourself and innocent others at risk.
Saxondale Posted 21 November 2014 Posted 21 November 2014 All lowering then limit will do is catch sensible people on a technicality. There's plenty more shit sober drivers to be concerned with than normal drivers who have had half a shandy.
Vacamion Posted 22 November 2014 Posted 22 November 2014 A lower limit allows them to pounce on more morning after drivers going about their business. I now have the fear about this. I drive a lot for my job and just can't risk it, so I'll have to drink less when I do drink alcohol. Another reason to legalize the weed (no morning after effects), imho.
