Southampton

I am no betting man, but I think that Chelsea will run away with the Premiership this season and Southampton will come in second. My prediction, for what its worth. I was reading a very good article on Southampton, and their business model, I wonder if LCFC's strategy is similar?

Notable quotes in the article:

"There's no point changing things for the sake of it. We've got a way of doing things and we stick to it - its a formula that works for us" I wonder what LCFC formula is, I hope they start getting it right soon.

Southampton believe

"Whatever a players age, they will play him is he's good enough"

They follow benchmarking religiously from what I gather.

I think the clubs philosophy is great. They are apparently only one of three clubs in the premiership to turn a profit.

Their team ethics are fascinating. As for their fitness training scheme, its totally scientific. They have the lowest rate of soft tissue injuries in the league.

Prozone data interests me, I'll have to google it! ;)

Southampton won't finish in the top 6.

Which teams do you think will finish above them? They're a better side than both Spurs and Liverpool (and maybe Everton and Manchester United too) and don't have any European distractions.

Can't see them staying in the top 4 as I think they're going to struggle defensively with a couple of injuries but definitely 5th or 6th for me Clive.

don't they have a really hard run from now for a few weeks? seen as they've played liverpool on the first day and that has been their only tough game so far, they now play city, arsenal, united, everton and chelsea in the next month. be an incredible effort if they're still top 4 after that i reckon

They'll finish 4th I reckon. They're genuinely good and combine that with the majority of the top sides underperforming, I wouldn't rule it out. I'd love it if they did, too.

WAY too soon to start rating them, lets see where they are after some tough games.  They have done well to play as well as they have given the changes over the summer, but lets not get carried away.

are they actually that good though? the only top 10 sides they've beaten so far are swansea (bony was sent off in the first half), west ham, and newcastle (when they were absolutely shit). other than that, they've dropped points at home to west brom (remember when we did that and were automatically relegated), they're the only team to not beat spurs after a europa league round, they took 75 minutes to break us down at home!! they also made very hard work of getting a point at villa last week.

like i said, they play arsenal, chelsea, city, united and everton before the new year. if they get a decent return from those games then we're talking, but right now their best result of the season is beating a ten man swansea side away from home. wow.

They've got a 7 point gap to 4th though; it's not like they've just snuck into 4th place at this stage.

Even if they lose all 5 of those games as long as they keep picking off the smaller teams they'd still almost certainly be in the top 6 and the way this season has gone I wouldn't be surprised if they were still in the top 4 after that run.

comfortably dispatched at home by a ten man man city in one of their first real tests of the season

I dont buy the whole Southampton will get found out by getting beat by Man City.

Didnt Spurs finish 4th by simply winning the games against the teams they should whilst their record against the top teams was shite?

More likely than your shower of shite.

Cool. I don't see how my answer to a question is relevant to Liverpool?

Saying that when it's coming from the closet Man United fan then nothing surprises me.

They won't finish in the top 6, simple as that.

Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, Man United, Spurs, Everton and Liverpool will all finish above them, I think.

I thought they looked ok today, Man City were obviously the better side but it's not like they were completely outclassed.

They might hold on to the top 6 if they can keep up their results against the shit teams but I think time will show that top 4 will be a step too far.

Can't see them getting anything from there next two games to be honest.

For how shit we are, there is a good chance that come next Monday that we will only be 3 points behind Southampton, obviously now I have said that it won't happen. lol

Is Leicester the kind of game you'd want to come up next? Obviously we've been wank recently but Liverpool is the first 'big' team we've played since United and we tend to play better when we're the complete underdog.

To be honest I don't want any game at the minute haha, we looked a lot better Saturday but still not great.

I would rather play you lot, your style of play will be to come at us and not sit back and play for a point, hopefully that will lead to an open game and our better players should take advantage and help us win the game.

Can't wait for Tuesday night, in the away end! Counting House still the away pub?

I think the feeling's mutual lol

I'm really fearing Sterling, Coutinho etc up against our defence. We just seem too scared to put in tackles at the moment, and are allowing players the freedom of our final third up until the six yard box!
