I know Slovenia well and just done 2-weeks there in June. PM me if you want any specific details. But whilst there would recommend a few bits in particular:

  • Lake Bled obviously, just beautiful although does get very busy in the summer. I actually prefer the less touristy Lake Bohinj which is about a 30min drive from Bled. Much bigger and more dramatic looking, with Moutn Triglav overlooking it.
  • Postjana or Skojan caves are well worth a visit. Postjana you get taken down into the caves on a train, then explore once down there.
  • As others have said Ljubljana is a great City, such a nice friendly atmosphere, great places to eat along the river, castle on the hill and their beer/bar scene has really improved in recent years. It does get busy but never feels like a tourist trap.
  • It's a 2-hour drive from Bled, but the Soca Valley region is just stunning, mountainous with the bluest river running through it. Loads of hikes, walks, climbs, rafting you can do here if you're into that.
  • Piran is a really pretty little town, completely pedestrianised and very Italian feeling. If you do get the time, Izaola next to that is also very nice and Rovinj just down the coast in Croatia is one of the nicest places we've been for years. The seafood and views were incredible.

Don't know anyone who leaves Slovenia without loving it so hope you have a great time! We go most years.

Very much on board with this

Great review..

Another vote for Lake Bohinj. Stunning backdrop. Bled is the base though, there's a proper holiday feel to it. And the beach club at bled has lido type feel.

I recommend Portoroz next to Piran. It has that old money 1970s sort of feels..Biarritz, st tropez vibes..

Rovinj is lovely. Take a cheesy harbour boat trip from there too for some coves and snorkeling and cliff jumping.

Also,.adding Porec to the list, half an hour closer to Slovenia then Rovinj and similar old town vibes.

For curiosity, Novigrad next door to Porec was grimly fascinating. A concrete 1960s Yugoslav shit hole. Nobody speaks English (all German and Italian) but a step back in time and, restaurants half the price of everywhere else.

Loads. Family holiday perfection I'd say.

Anywhere you would really recommend?

My two are boys 5 and 8. Loads of energy and fair haired so not arsed about really hot weather.

I used to take mine to Diunrell in the Netherlands with Eurocamp when they were young. There's a fairly tame but great for young kids theme park attached that's included in the price, and an indoor water park that I believe you now have to pay for. The town is just across the road and its very pretty,  and the beach nearby is lovely too. Easy to get to, only about 40 minutes drive from the hook of Holland, and plenty of places for day trips.

It was the first Eurocamp I did with my kids and although we did lots of others, this was always their favourite, and we went back every year for a good few years.

Nowhere in particular. I used to enjoy browsing the brochure and just seeing what vibe each had. We did inland France, Brittany, South West France (hotter) Austria and Croatia.

We binned off Brittany as the weather is as unpredictable as UK and one year suffered  a 17 degree cloud and rain fortnight so after that went much further south. But Brittany is the easiest to get to and weather obvs this year will still be hot.

Stick the kids a little bike on a bike rack or boot, a football, badminton set and kids surfboard thing...they'd play all day long, find friends dead easy (usually Irish, Dutch, scandi) , go to the kids clubs, go to the 5 a side court..... Like a 1970s childhood fresh air outside and totally knackered for bed. You then sit out on the decking and have a few.

Pay extra for the Aircon caravans tho!

I find France an incredibly dull and overpriced holiday destination, would rather spend a few days on the British coastline for scenery, or cities for food and good times.

However St Malo/Dinard is actually nice, it's a common after work dinner trip or weekend booze day from Jersey if someone is willing to take their boat out. Dinard got written up in the FT today - Why the ‘Cannes of the north’ is back in vogue

Currently in Ayr before my nieces wedding at Trump Turnberry tomorrow.

OK, the weather, 24 degrees with a breeze off the sea, is definitely helping, but it's bringing back childhood memories of Scotish beach holidays.

Plenty of people on the sandy beach, long promenade, ice cream shops, carnival/ fairground open, and that distinctive smell of seaweed.

Loads of Americans around playing Troon, Turnberry, Prestwick.

I was there a few years ago. Are there still loads of big jellyfish in the water and washed up on the beach?

I know France gets a lot of hate but I actually quite like it. I've just come back from 10 days in the Charente and it was just nice for a change, a change of scenery, wine, food and just generally chilling out in the peace and quiet. There's some absolutely stunning scenery around the Basque and Pyranees regions which for me is on the drive up there.

It's also great once in a while to stock up on things I can't get at home lol

Has anyone done eurocamps with kids?

We did the Netherlands last year and really enjoyed it. 3 hour drive from calais but stopped half way in Ghent for a look round.

We've booked euro camps again for next month,  Benodet in France.

I reckon you'll have a great time, we've been there with kids a few years ago. Look out to see if they have fireworks over the bay one night, it was amazing!

Tbf would like to go to that region, Bordeaux and down to Bilbao. Keep hearing about all the Michelin star chefs in Bilbao and need to explore it.

Lol the trade between France and jersey is hilarious. They send their boats to us loaded with drugs. Jersey people on the commercial ferry back from st malo stocked up with laundry powder, washing up liquid, various household goods because it’s so much cheaper there
