The Portrayal Of White Male Football Fans By Media

Recommended Posts

White working-class men are the most hated people in Britain? Or is it just the scummy racists that appear once they've had a beer?

What a ridiculous article.

Might be some truth in it.

You hear pretty horrific racial abuse from huge sections of the Indian and Pakistan fans at the cricket and it barely ever gets a mention.

Certainly different rules when it comes to the press for football fans.

Have a look at immigrant street on c4 the racial abuse from Asian to black and black to Asian is a massive issue

IF a white lad was behaving like them Asian lads on taht programme IT would have been all over papers today

Racism is not a white speciality , but I would say white racism the only racism getting covered in main media

Ask yourself why ????

Such as?

India fans chanting and booing towards Bopara in the Champions trophy final was borderline racist, the booing of Mooen Ali can't be interpreted as anything else.

Pakistan fans - pretty much every time they play here towards other spectators. I fear for Mooen when they come next time.

Chanting I can imagine there would be. I wouldn't take 'booing' as a portrayal of racism though lol

Booing someone because of where they were born is no different to monkey chanting, surely? You're abusing someone because of their nationality or race.

I wouldn't put them in the same boat. I don't really like both (never been a fan of booing anywhere - I see it as a motivation for the person getting booed so find it pretty redundant anyway).

This is not a new pnenomenon, it's been going on for years. And it's not helped by the fact that a lot of footballs fans are actually massive bellends.

There is a definite class snobbery against football fans though - you ask any of the gout-suffering toffs who go to watch the Tigers.

The irony is that, while most football fans are perfectly law-abiding, most rugby fans drink eight pints of Guinness during the game and drive home in their Range Rovers and Lexus'. They'll never get caught because they know half the local coppers from their golf club and/or the Freemasons.

It'll always be more of a story when the majority in power are seen to be abusing the minority.

Sexism, racism, whatever, it's all about the herd majority turning on an alleged fringe.

I'm not particularly justifying it but it does continue to surprise me when people express the old "if that was a white British bloke there'd be uproar" stuff.

Morally they may have a point but we're talking about the politics of the media, not moral right and wrong.

A side of the coin that needs to be looked at .....

Could it be the elitist upper class media luvies sneering at the White working class male football fan ?

This was humanity at its very, very ugliest.

Thank fvck Adolf wasn't a Forest fan.

So you are justifying it? lol

Surely we should be trying to change these things if we recognise it's wrong? Why should Mooen Ali suffer horrific abuse connected to his background just because the perpetrators aren't white?

In what way am I justifying it? I'm explaining it, not agreeing with it.

Mass media continues to vex and frustrate me, which is why I rarely bother reading a paper these days.

Newsworthy in 2015 means What Sells not What Should Be Told.

Ask a collection of fairly normal people in any working environment and I'm sure they'll agree that all racism is wrong be it white on black or black on brown or brown on turquoise.

But it's pretty obvious that a story about a bunch of scary, white, skinhead orcs abusing a poor black father in his own country is going to grab more headlines and sell more papers than an Anglo-Pakistani cricketer being booed by Indian cricket fans.

What I dislike about this article (as well of half of MBs posts) is that it stoops to another kind of ridiculous hyperbole, implying that everyone vaguely left of centre is some overly sensitive social weakling that wants the entirety of Stamford Bridge to be arrested and deported to Nasty Man Island so that we don't have to suffer their mean treatment of the lovely brown people who we're happy to keep being terrorists just so long as we don't have to say no to them.

It's retarded. I don't know a single person in my day to day life that actually holds views like that and I've never expressed them myself, even on here, where I'm prone to argue points that are occasionally further "left" than I probably actually buy in to purely for the sakes of debate.

Almost nobody is really that soft, but it makes good reading so it's printed and so we all get whipped up in to a fervor believing that that's what the rest of the country is thinking.

Well great but are they? If they are, I must live and work around an exceptionally uncommon selection of the UK populace.

I don't disagree with any of that at all,

That's why I say we should all be trying to change it.

I hope you are being deliberately stupid with your post.

I'm being deliberately obtuse and flippant to illustrate my point - but thanks for your concern.
