Ashtons Journey

Well Ashton is really starting to surprise me now. His crawling is coming along really well but his sense of adventure is now getting him to start moving his legs when we hold his hands. I can see he is now starting to take small steps with him moving his legs on his own rather than us moving them for him. The look on his face when he is standing up is a joy to see. He looks so proud of himself.

This year I can certainly see him coming on leaps and bounds. Maybe even walking around with his walker on his own. That would be a huge achievement.

My wife works at Next head office and has just been given a business card to their manager of Charities and Sponsorships. I've just emailed her to see if Next would be interested in donating/sponsoring Ashton. Bit of a strange email to write. Not really comfortable asking for hand outs. Just feels weird lol

Went to my nephews 5th birthday party on Sunday. He had a football party and watching him and his friends running around with the ball made me feel a bit emotional. I wanted nothing more than for Ashton to join in.

His private Physio is delighted with his progress in the last 3 months. She can really see an improvement. Give it another year or 2 and I might just be having a kick about with him in the back garden.

I'm glad to hear Ashton is doing so well! He will continue to amaze you

I can completely see where you are coming from on the birthday party bit, I have a child with Autism who doesn't engage much with other children (especially things like that) and it can be very tough but Ashton will get there mate!

All the best and I'll keep reading up on his journey

All seems to be happening now Ashton has turned 3.

A child isn't really considered to have a disability to their motor skills until they get past 3 as they could still be classed as a lazy child rather than not actually be able to move. (daft I know lol)

So now he is 3 and he receives the Higher disability benefit we are now able to get a car for him. (Basically you can either have the benefit money or put it towards the lease of a car)

We went to Available Car yesterday to look at some of the cars that the wife liked, the car would be hers as she is the one who takes Ashton everywhere in the week. We managed to rattle it down to 4 cars that she will test drive

Suzuki Vitara

Ford Kuga

Mitsubishi ASX

Vauxhall Mokka

All look good cars and we both liked the Suzuki so think that will be the first we test drive.

Next thing now is his pushchair. We have used a regular pushchair for him but now he is 3 he can be referred to have a specialist chair. Much more ideal for him. The place we go to to have the special chair is the same place the wife is taking Ashton to about his special boots in a couple of weeks. So the wife called to say it would be a good idea to kill 2 birds with 1 stone and discuss the chair at the same appointment as his boots.

But no, this is too difficult for the NHS to sort out. You would think we would be doing the NHS a favour. Very frustrating

So now we are getting things moving along. We can sell the wife's SEAT Ibiza and use that money towards something.

Paid off our Egypt holiday we are going to in July. Hoping Ashton will have his new walker by then and we can take it with us so he can do some walking around. Cant wait to get him in that swimming pool. He loves the water lol

Good stuff mate!

Re the asking for Corporate sponsorship, I would suggest (having signed off a few such things over the years) that it may help to be specific in what you are looking for.  Ie if you ask for general money they wont like it, but supporting a specific peice of kit or home alteration or course etc they might.

ive bit the bullet.

Ive set up a just giving page as a work colleague is doing rough runner in May and wanted to raise money towards Ashton's therapy.

Feel a bit blessed atm that people want to raise money for my son. Brings a tear to the eye. So if anyone is interested in Ashton's story check the link.

Ive also shared it on Facebook (mark Richard carr) if you wanted to follow the developments and when my colleagues do rough runner in May

Good man.  Just tried to donate but wouldn't let me do it on my phone, but I will do when I boot the laptop up later. Can't afford much (£835 on a new clutch for the Land Rover has seen to that), but will gladly chuck something in and maybe more later if I'm feeling flush.

EDIT: Done, only a small donation, and also shared the page on my facebook. Although my friends are notoriously tight bastards so I can't promise anything!
EDIT: If it was me, I'd put Ashton's picture on the "cover" of the Facebook post rather than the sensory lights (or whatever they are). He's a cutie and without wanting to be the cold bean counter, it might encourage more donations

Thank you so much for your donation. Takes a special person to donate to someone they have never met. Much appreciated. Doing quite well with donations already. Bit overwhelming tbh.

Good for you mate

I've made a small donation and hope it goes a little way to helping you achieve your target. I've got two young kids myself and can't imagine how tough it must be for you as a parent.

Keep us updated and all the best with your fundraising :)

Thanks izzy. It all certainly helps. We are looking into getting Ashton enrolled at "snowdrop" down in Devon which is what your donation will go towards. Ashton will get the best help he can get. I will keep posting updates of his progress

Had a quick look - looks like a great place.

You're doing a great job mate - all the best.

I'll pop in a lil donation early next week

Amazing that it's already nearly half way there in being accomplished and that you already have the first assessment covered for Ashton

Half way to the target! Just had an email informing me. Good effort. Now let's see if we can get the other half!

If you have a electronic copy of the poster let me know and I'll stick one up at work.

Even better. My sister in law lives in Tenerife and some of her friends have pulled together and donated £100. Crazy

upto £640 now. Unbelievable. I don't have an electronic copy of the poster I'm afraid. If you could pass the link around that would be wonderful

I'm not on twitter so have no idea lol

but you wouldn't mind if someone else had a go?

I mean, it's already out there I suppose, so anyone could share it online

Pros: A retweet from someone like Lineker or Vardy could get you a few donations or shares

Cons: You might get some idiots making snidy comments (there are some real internet trolling idiots about!)

Also, can anyone help with wording the tweet? - only 140 characters to pitch the entire appeal!

Great news mate. Glad I could help in a small, small way. Look forward to seeing your further updates on his progress.
