davieG Posted 13 January 2009 Posted 13 January 2009 In years to come (not many at the current rate) who would you choose to work for? The Government McDonalds Tesco There wont be much else to choose from.
The People's Hero Posted 13 January 2009 Posted 13 January 2009 Definitely the FSA. I've probably never had more respect for them.
Head Honcho Posted 13 January 2009 Posted 13 January 2009 In years to come (not many at the current rate) who would you choose to work for?The Government McDonalds Tesco There wont be much else to choose from. I had to laugh at the news yesterday. 2100 jobs lost at JCB and Wedgewood and it's headline news. 5000 new jobs at Morrisons and it wasn't mentioned. Talk about selective journalism. I also wonder if Sir Anthony Bamford worth an estimated £2 billion will have to return his knighthood due to his (dis)services to industry

I also wonder if Sir Anthony Bamford worth an estimated £2 billion will have to return his knighthood due to his (dis)services to industry It's an utter condemnation of Brown and Co. JCB is a cracking company whose products lead the field and which has customers wanting them. Banks get bailed out big time for their incompetence. But while ther's money aplenty for the bank's often poorly performing executives there's no money for 'JCB's intending customers who actually want to do something useful.

Maybe Bamford could've opened a bank and loaned them the money he has after all got more money then Northern Rock Bamford is just using this as an excuse for his inability to compete with cheaper models from the far east.
hairy Posted 13 January 2009 Posted 13 January 2009 Tesco. My neighbour does and he earns a mint just for screwing things up

I don't think JCB needs an excuse. The fact that overheads in this country will be higher than in the Far East will make rival products cheaper.

I'd also takes his comments a bit more seriously if he wasn't one of the tories leading fundraisers. .......................and he may or may not have noticed that the construction industry in Europe is at a standstill hence why so many vehicles are available to hire not buy
Munzie Posted 13 January 2009 Posted 13 January 2009 Definitely the FSA. I've probably never had more respect for them. The FSA are one of the main reasons that we are in this current financial mess. They haven't done anywhere near enough to regulate Banks & Building Societies in relation to their products or sales processes. They are too busy imposing fines for the miss-selling of insurance products but completely oblivious as to why such policies are sold in the first place - to protect loans/mortgages that are far too costly for the average punter to take in the first place! The sooner they regulate finance, the better. Until then, they are just playing at being an important company.

Perhaps my sarcasm was a little too veiled, my vitriol a little too disguised and my irony a little too subtle.
Monk Posted 13 January 2009 Posted 13 January 2009 I'm currently unemployed but the job search is looking up. Hoping to have something within a week or two, probably at an asset management company.

So you're saying that you can get get cheaper rival JCB products abroad, but it doesn't really matter because the market is over-supplied at the moment anyway. So what are you advocating, JCB should do...

davieG Posted 13 January 2009 Author Posted 13 January 2009 I'm hoping the BBC are still around. Probably but run/owned by the Government or Tesco. Will be with the NHS for a fair while, not sure after that. Maybe them forever. That'll be Tesco Health Division then.
Bryn Posted 13 January 2009 Posted 13 January 2009 Probably but run/owned by the Government or Tesco. That'll be Tesco Health Division then. Aye I was gonna say, NHS will probably be heading out by the time I'm anywhere near being a consultant. Ah well.

So you're saying that you can get get cheaper rival JCB products abroad, but it doesn't really matter because the market is over-supplied at the moment anyway. So what are you advocating, JCB should do... Their export market has collapsed due to other cheaper brands being available in Japan and other far east countries and their domestic market is at a standstill due to there being so many vehicles available for hire. How difficult is that to understand? I have no doubts that JCB's share in the market has been dwindling for years now anyway and as the Bamfords have always been known for their close relations with their workforce, needed to blame someone rather then themselves for their miscalculation on the demand for their product.

skinnydipper Posted 13 January 2009 Posted 13 January 2009 I've been self employed for 20 years. Not having had a boss in all that time I think I'm now virtually unemployable.
