Thracian Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Well it's funny how many rate the guy so highly now the Premiership interest is out in the open. Not a couple of weeks ago voting was about 60-40 saying they'd rather have Sheehan in the side. Presumably it's the 40 who have replied in the main. I don't know what the bid was so it's hard to say whether I'd have turned it down. But as it has been turned down it only emphasises the strangeness of people saying how badly we need a left-back. Mattock has played some good games this season against some good opponents, including Villa. Basically as a defender. I cannot remember when he's had any great relevence as an attacker. Sheehan is a demonstrably decent attacker whose presence doesn't mean we concede more goals. So what the hell are we expecting from a new left-back. A combination of the two? For a few bob too presumably? I'll be interest to see the bloke.

But I would still bring in an experienced left back, perhaps someone whose equally adept on the left wing for cover as well. Step forward Tony Capaldi or David Vaughan.
DB11 Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 ...City are considering asking referee Martin Atkinson to review the yellow card he gave to Patrick Kisnorbo for deliberate handball, a fifth caution which would rule him out of Saturday's trip to Norwich.I didn't think that yellows could be rescinded? They can't. But if the Ref doesn't send the report in then there never was a yellow. Well yellows can be rescinded but only for mistaken identity. Eg. If Kisnorbo was booked but it was actually Clemence who did the handball (and there was substantial evidence - then no one gets booked)
Jonbluefox9 Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Pleased to hear about this! I've been backing Mattock for a while now because I've seen what he's capable of and from what I've seen of him, at under 18 and first team level, he's got the right kind of attitude to keep on getting better and better. We'd be silly to sell him now when he's not long signed a 3 year deal unless the offer was absolutely ridiculous. If we progress as a club we may be able to match his ambition in 2 years time and keep hold of him for even longer.
Joe. Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I'm not sure to be honest. I like Mattock but I don't rate him that highly that I think he is unsellable. Now we have a proper left winger in Zsolt I'd like to see how Mattock plays for a few games before I make a full decision on him. I think it's right that we rejected the offer at this stage. Mattock has definitely showed some promise since he broke into this team. If he doesn't cope as well as I think he will behind Zsolt, a loan move might be a good idea for him.
lildave3 Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 He will be the next Stuart Downing, kind of. Pffft. He's the new Rufus Brevett.
Fox You Forest Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 He will be the next Stuart Downing, kind of. I hope to god not. Im not a fan of Downing i think he's higly over rated.
Ozwin Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Stewart Downing is toss. Good crosser and that's it.
The Reverend Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 I was one that said sell him, but was aware that, similarly to Clemence, hes only as good as the player in front (or besise in clems case), and being as he has practically nothing in front of him, but now he has, i would keep him and see how he develops. Hes like any player, the better the team, the better you're gonna play.
Sods Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 This just justifies the reason why Ollie has left Plymouth and is at our club. Gosling of Plymouth Sold Mattock of Leicester Rejected. I reckon they would be the same price as well, so there you go plymouth fans.
FilboFox Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 YES!!! Great news! He's one of our best young talents at the club and my favourite player at City so its good he's staying! In Football Manager, Aston Villa paid out £5,000,000 for him and Mandaric accepted... was not happy!

I reckon they would be the same price as well, so there you go plymouth fans. You may be right but I wouldn't get too smug. EVERY player has his price. But, assuming the bid was around £1.5m I'm happy we rejected it. In fact I'm happy with almost all the decisions lately, on and off the field. Makes a pleasant feeling and one I'd like to have more often.
Uncle Albert Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 In a couple of years time Mattock will hopefully be one of the best up and coming left backs in England. Hopefully he is still playing for one of the best up and coming teams in the Premiership i.e Leicester City
blue blood Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 How about "Prawn Cock" for Alan Maybury. hammond mustard?
renards Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Post I made in respose to Mattocks Value on Jan 3rd shot down as a load of balls by 'Tommy G' who obviously knows what he's talking about...?? Possibly the best prospect/asset we have £1.5 m only with a massive % of future sale fee + international add on etc. Played at all ages for England Played U21s at 17 2nd youngest player, ever, youngest being Walcott Picked as left back by the countries most sucessful left back during the past decade+ If i remember right, the only none Premiership player in the side.? Local lad, both him and his Dad are massive Leicester supporters. Rumoured to be Chelsea bound until Mourinio left. Doing a decent job in a crap side If DJ Campbell is worth £2m+ whats that make Mattock? Response............. What a load of balls He was only included in the Eng squad because of massive Injuries... Stearman was in the squad too.. How does him being a local lad/his dad supporting leicester effect whether you would let him go for 1.5 mill? Chelsea bound, are you joking? Decent job in a crap side? His recent form has been shoddy How can you even compared DJ and Mattock!?
samuel Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 It was Newcastle.....And they were prepared to loan him back for the season... Trust me, i know his Dad Neil>>>
Head Honcho Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Anyone think his development will be hindered by this decision? We could always sell him and have him loaned back to us!
Raj Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 It was Newcastle.....And they were prepared to loan him back for the season...Trust me, i know his Dad Neil>>> can they buy a player while they have no manager?? I know Milan bought Bruno whilst we had no manager but doesnt really sound too good for the new messiah of newcastle to know his boss is buying players for him!!!
Bert Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 It was Newcastle.....And they were prepared to loan him back for the season...Trust me, i know his Dad Neil>>> Trust me, it wasn't Newcastle.
Joe. Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 Trust me, it wasn't Newcastle. Was it Villa? or Chelsea?
shen Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 No. What's your source then? As our own FT 'source' seems to think Chelsea were indeed the bidders...
samuel Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 It was Newcastle...... I know for a fact they offered well over a milion But he has already been sold to someone next year.....The deal is done!!
Bert Posted 14 January 2008 Posted 14 January 2008 What's your source then? As our own FT 'source' seems to think Chelsea were indeed the bidders... That my friend, i don't have to disclose. I'm not going to either. But it wasn't Newcastle.
