Bluefoxtim Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 http://www.lcfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Lates...1067153,00.html Leicester City have confirmed the signing of Republic of Ireland under 21 winger Jonathan Hayes from Reading. Hayes, pictured on the right of the above image, spent the back end of last season on loan at Milton Keynes Dons - City boss Martin Allen's former club. And the Leicester chief was suitably impressed enough with what he saw of the 19-year-old to sign him on a three-year deal for the Foxes. Allen said: "I have seen Jonathan play for Reading reserves on numerous occasions. He has pace, he is direct and he is very confident. "I took him with me to on loan to Milton Keynes Dons. He was very impressive. I took him there as a squad player to help with our running, but he did so well that he actually got himself into the starting 11. "He is at a right age to improve. He has still got a lot to do, don't get me wrong. He is not the finished article. "But with a good pre-season he could be a spark of energy that helps us win some matches if he does what I want him to." Hayes made 13 appearances for Milton Keynes in total - and has also had loan spells at Forest Green and Chesterfield. He becomes Allen's eighth signing of the summer - following Bruno N'Gotty, Jimmy Nielson, Carl Cort, Radostin Kishishev, Ricky Sappleton, James Chambers and Sergio Hellings through the doors at the Walkers Stadium.
Kent Fox Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Hard for me to get really excited as I know little about him. I am sure he'll make a good squad player though.
Gené and Tonic Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Same age and position as Porter? Fairly pleased with this signing though.
Blue Bob Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Good news a signing. Looks like someone MA knows well but needs some development and is still young enough to learn. Is he right or left wing? (lets avoid the politics jokes eh?)
Fez of Mahrez Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Told you Mablo. Glad we've brought in some cover on the wings. Now all we need is some first-choice wingers.
Bluefoxtim Posted 4 July 2007 Author Posted 4 July 2007 Why has it took them 2 weeks to announce it? Whose to say he did sign 2 weeks ago? From the article it looks as though he was on a trial basis.
MPH Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Whose to say he did sign 2 weeks ago? From the article it looks as though he was on a trial basis. wow. MM pushing the boat out a bit with a 3 year deal... most unlike him
Durnerz Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Glad to see we have a winger in, especially a left sided one (if that is his proper position)
MPH Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Whose to say he did sign 2 weeks ago? From the article it looks as though he was on a trial basis. was just thinking.... we only just returned back for pre seasons training so even if he was on trial 2 weeks ago MA wouldnt of learnt much seeing him train on his own...
Wezleylowski Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Jonathan Hayes - Young Irish left winger who is very pacey and direct. Has all the tools to make an impact (hopefully this season) and become a mainstay in the side. If I had to pick one youth player who I think will 'make it' with Reading then it would be Hayes. Age 18, Nationality - Irish From a Reading based site. They obviously had high expectations of this lad too. This was written a year ago though. Its his 20th b-day in 5 days.
The People's Hero Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Random trivia. His real first name is actually Oscar, but he hates being referred to as this due to his namesake from (cult) children's tv show 'Sesame Street' who resided in a bin.

Wilkesy Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Im fairly happy with this signing, hopefully a good prospect for the future
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Sounds good, haven't seen him play before but from the sounds of things he's one of those 'first choice' second choices, aspiring to be a first choice.

MBK Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Competition? Porter will feel at home, he's on the short side as well.
Ric Flair Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Good to see we are signing a few younger players as well as experienced players. From all accounts Hayes has plenty of ability and he'll only play if he's proved his worth. I don't think that's the last of the signings today.
Blue Bob Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Is there a fee involved in this signing? Doesnt say in the press release - anyone know?

Is that based on the fact that Morfaw was training yesterday? Allegedly.
