HAYES SIGNS!

I'll reserve judgement until I have seen him try to cross the ball a few times. It would be really nice to have someone in the side who can cross the ball well. Should be good competition for Porter though and now that he is no longer the only player who can play LM (considering Tiatto was injured/suspended/filling in at lb or cm) it may encourage him to work harder to keep his place in the side.

De Vries would eat Cort for breakfast!

Is Carl Cort a cookie then??? :dunno:

I like that he's been described as fast, direct and confident. I think it was Porter's confidence that stood him out last season, his willingness to take the ball on. If this lad's got a bit more speed and can get a good ball in then I don't see why it isn't an exciting signing. The Irish obviously see something in him.

Wait til the Quorn game. Unless Cort has lost a lot of weight you might be in for a surprise. They don't look dissimilar at the moment.

I was looking at the photos yesterday, Cort is a bit of a giant.

Its difficult to make a judgement on a player I hadnt heard of upto earlier today so I wont attemt too lol. Again, this may sound strange as I have never seen the academy play either but from the apparent facts we have before us, we have a very succesful academy side and some of those players are a similar age to Hayes and had major success at that level. The point I am trying to make is that I hope the likes of Gradel, who has an astonishing record at that level, is given a fair crack at the whip and that MA doesnt do what so many new managers do and always side with the people they signed ahead of the rest. You never know, one or two of these kids could be "anything".

BTW I wouldnt make the point if we had a shocker of an academy team but am simply basic the point around the fact that they beat quite a few sides in style including so called "better" set-ups like Arsenal.

If anything I'd say the fact that we haven't signed an attacking central midfielder or right winger means King and Gradel might be in for a fair bit of first-team action this year. Even if we signed players in these positions, they would still be backup with a chance of impressing IMO.

I agree. I think Gradel is in for some first team merc'in this season.

Well he's definitely the sort of player we need, and if he fits the description of what Allen says we've got a good signing on our hands.

However I am slightyly worried that we don't have anybody proven to play on the left wing next season

I had thought that when we didnt follow up the loan deal for Newton or the paper link to Trevor Sincair but as MA and MM keep telling us, we still have 4 or 5 new players still to arrive and who knows if wide midfielders will be the next target after a striker, maybe Job, turns up?!

Well we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. I certainly wouldn't want Beswick to be our second choice first team left winger next season. If it's to be between Porter and Hayes on that side with Mattock possibly an option too then that's not the end of the world. The priority should be the other side where at the moment we only really have Gradel as a specialist right-sided midfielder.

There is a distinct difference between giving the Academy lads a chance and going into the season without sufficient proven quality.

MA's watched the guy play often enough, clearly has faith in him and we are short of genuine wingers. I cannot see this as anything other than positive. + 0.5 (+10.5 overall).

True enough. MM may want to save millions in the future by having a great youth squad supplying quality players to the first team but his way of getting a club promoted is usually about signing ready made players for instance results. Its more of a selfish slant from me that I would like to think that this time next season we will have the type of players that the bigger clubs are willing to pay £4-5m+ for and not just run a team full of bosmans.

i am extremely optimistic for the current bunch of lads from & at the academy but im pretty certain that none of the likes of king or gradel will have broken into the first team before next year

Still persisting in an annoying pointless points system -2 (-6.0 overall)

Oscar the grouch was a absloute legend. I personally rate him higher than Sinbad the Sailor and Sooty.

Sooty and Matthew Corbert were ultimate entertainers, naught can beat them. So sayeth the Glass Spider.

Hayes was 'pretty good' for us last season - though some fans thought he was one of our best players for the games we had him on loan. Could do ok for you because he has ability, but at Champ level, I reckon as a sub.

Against Wycombe he nearly scored our goal of the season by picking the ball up in his own half and dribbling into the box past 5 players - unlucky not to score to be honest.

Good luck to him.

I read some of your fans would rather lose McLeod than Hayes? Is that honestly true?

the games i seen him play in he looks ball greedy but he also looks like a great player and i reckon he will do great for us i just wish he was a right sided player because i was hoping to see porter allot when the season starts.
