Fat Ron Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Is megson coming back? No Right Backs in Midfield, whatever gave you that Idea?? I'd agree with davieG for the team. If nothing else this game is damage limitation!!
breadandcheese Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 I'm at a loss with team selections these days. Seems that you can tinker with the systems but the players need to make the difference. Having said that, I'd try something slightly different. Alnwick Chambers-----Stearman/N'Gotty------Kisnorbo------Clapham Oakley----------Kishishev------------King----------ClemenceHoward-------------Hume Our midfield is lacking down the flanks so I'd be tempted to play our two strongest players there. Clemence played there when he first broke through at Tottenham and I'm sure Oakley played there many times at Southampton. Kishishev can do the work of a destructive midfielder in the centre of what will be a contested midfield at Cardiff and King can weigh in with a few driving runs and passes. It won't be flowing play down the wings, but hopefully we'd be stronger and retain the ball in midfield (assuming Clemence and Oakley didn't drift inside and muck up the tactics). It would also release Hume, our top scorer, to play upfront.
RowlattsFox Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 --------------------Alnwick Stearman---N'Gotty---Kisnorbo---Clapham Chambers--Oakley--Clemence--Mattock ----------------Hume---Howard Subs: Wesolowski, Bori, Hayles, Laczko, Campbell McAuley is suspended. Not my preferred choice but I think we may see this.
davieG Posted 26 February 2008 Author Posted 26 February 2008 Is megson coming back? Well it's a tad too defensive for my liking but the 2 Hungarians have not proved effective, without wingers I see no point in playing Howard. As for the 5 man defence, N'Gotty maybe a better passer, although I've not noticed it recently but he's slower than McAuley, Stearman's unpractised at CB so for me it's belt and braces at the back at some pace up front, with Chambers & Mattock pushing forwards.

Don't disagree a draw at cardiff would be a decent result. We don't seem to be able to play 4-4-2 away so some thing has to change.
STUHILL Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 --------------------AlnwickStearman---McAuley---Kisnorbo---Mattock --------Oakley---King----Wesolowski ----Hume--------Fryatt--------Campbell I'm liking a lot of these formations, a bit of a shake-up is what is probably needed. I have gone for similar to Norwich side which I know failed miserably at Covscum. The problem is our ineffective wingers at the moment, so perhaps playing 4-3-3 might bypass that. The problem with having Howard, we are almost in the mindset of everything must go through him uptop. Perhaps by taking him out the side, the team will have to think more and play more passing high tempo style. Worth a shot I guess. I would be tempted to play this formation if we lose again. I cant shake how good we were at Norwich yet, but another poor performance at Cardiff and I will be wanting a shakeup like this too!
Thracian Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Alnwick Chambers Stearman N'Gotty Kisnorbo MattockOakley Weso ClemenceHume CampbellSubs King, Howard, Fryatt, Zsolts Bori If you're saying our chances of victory in Cardiff are so slim we'll try to hold what we start with and go with the option to change if it goes wrong that's about our best chance of 0-0 and carries the added hope that the front men's pace might help us steal a win as at Wolves last season. It's really Megsonesque but that sort of approach got a fairly comfortable 1-0 at Villa this season and a point from Wales, with the team in its current state of uncertainty, would be a point I'd not banked on us getting. Three points would be a massive bonus, perhaps even a pivotal, and that team probably gives us the most realistic chance of getting them.

You could do with another centre back and stearman at wing back as i don't think chambers can pass to a leicester player. He has the attributes pace power etc.. but his distribution is woefull.
act smiley Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 I don't think a 352/532 would be effective to be honest, Cardiff have some excellent wide players and some good passing midfielders, even if they can lack direction as a side at times, Parry, Ledley (is he back from injury for this?) and Ramsey are dangerous and Whittingham isn't bad either. The only way they'll get pace is if they throw Parry up front, I could see how an extra centre-back could protect against his tendency to drift back out wide when they play him there, but other than him they've no pace, even if Hasslebaink can finish its their midfield that scares me. My side would be this pretty conventional one: Alnwick Stearman N'Gotty Kisnorbo Clapham Bori Wesolowski Oakley Mattock Campbell Howard Subs: Henderson, Chambers, Laczko, King, Hume

It wasn't intentionally Megsoness I just removed the most ineffectually players and that's what i'm left with. I was sorely tempted to put King in instead of Clemence.

Simon Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 At the risk of sounding Thracianesque, I think we need to recall Gradel. Never going to happen, but I'd do it and play this: AlnwickStearman Kisnorbo N'Gotty ClaphamGradel Oakley Clemence LaczkoHoward DJSubs: Weso, King, Fryatt, Hume, Chambers
