Joe. Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Henderson 7 - Dealt with everything very well. Edworthy N/a Morrison 7 - Looked solid all over the pitch, both at centre back and right back where I was particularly and surprisingly impressed with him. He looks much more comfortable there than Hobbs ever did. Tunchev 7 - Solid as a rock once again, never fails to deliver. Mattock 7.5 - Showed so many great attacking traits tonight, he was very impressive. He's definitely grown in confidence this season a hell of a lot and it's showing with the way he bombs down the left at times. Berner 6 - He's a bit of a blender really. Definitely not spectacular, but scrapes the steady tag. Oakley 8 - First half he was brilliant as part of the central three and showed all the qualities he needed to in a captain; passing was excellent and his tackling was also top notch all game. King 8.5 - Hugely impressive tonight, particularly in the first half where he was superb. Looked extremely comfortable in the middle there and delivered great pass after great pass. Hopefully we'll see the real Andy King with this formation. Dyer 7 - Lovely finish for the goal and linked up reasonably well with Fryatt and Howard. Crossing was iffy though. Fryatt 7 - Decent performance up front for him, worked hard all night and like Dyer linked up well with his strike partners. Howard 6.5 - In the first half he won virtually everything, but he dropped off in the second and slowly deteriorated for me. Still, a decent performance for the big man. Subs: Hobbs 6.5 - Secure at centre back and stuck to his tasks well. Campbell N/a
CKB Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Berner 6 - He's a bit of a blender really. Definitely not spectacular, but scrapes the steady tag. I honestly for a mo when glancing first thought you said he's abit of a bender really
SamL Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Henderson 6 Edworthy N/A Tunchev 7 Morrison 7 Mattock 7 Oakley 8 King 7.5 Berner 6.5 Dyer 7 Howard 7 Fryatt 6.5 Subs:- Hobbs 6 Dj N/A
JoeyB Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Henderson 7 - Should of scored. this time last year everyone was saying his kicking was shocking, look how much its improved Edworthy N/a Morrison 8 - BEAST. Looked good going forward, and at the back, won every header. I like this lad alot Tunchev 7 - Good show. Mattock 7 - Good going forward and going back, although needs to release it a bit quicker and needs to work on his strength Berner 6.5 - Good game Oakley 7.5 - Looked good, and rejuvenated in this right side role. Should of scored. King 7.5 - Was a busy bunny. lacked communication at time Dyer 7 - was in and out the game, lost the ball at times, good finish Fryatt 7.5 - Good touches, and never stopped moving and running. Howard 7 - Got more protection from the Ref. Came close second half, but didn't win as many headers as he has been doing, passing was a bit lack luster at times Subs: Hobbs 6.5 - shaky at times but did well Campbell N/a
Milky Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Hendo 6 Edworthy 6 - I'll give him a rating for that brilliant last ditch challenge 8 yards out. Surely a goal saver. Morrison 7 - looks a much better option at right back than hobbs. nice to see him try and pass when possible. Tunchev 7 - solid Mattock 7 - one of his better performances. contributed to many attacks, and showed some nice touches/skill. Oakley 7.5 - looks a new man with this more free attacking role. Berner 6 - the game passes him by a bit, but he did a steady job. King 7.5 - sprayed it around nicely again. Dyer 7 - what would we do without his crucial goals. Fryatt 6 - quiet-ish game. Howard 7 - one of his better performances this season. easily had it over the CB's. Please try and get in the box a bit more though. Hobbs 6
Big Bad Fox Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Henderson 7 - How did he miss that goal kick, should have had one on the score sheet Edworthy N/a Morrison 8 - Very good performance, much better than Hobbs Tunchev 7 - Bulgaria's equivalent to John Terry Mattock 7 - english roberto carlos Berner 6.5 - So So performance Oakley 7.5 - Better every game, played well in a more right sided role King 8 - his passing and movement was premiership, he was similar to oakley last game.. very talented player, hot prospect Dyer 7 - very nice finish, did a good job in my opinion.. the best left sides player in a long while Fryatt 7.5 - Good touches, and never stopped moving and running. Howard 7 - ref was nice to him today.. but he showed how good he can be in the air when he puts his back in to it Subs: Hobbs 6.5 - average.. from the past few games.. we can safly say he has not lived up to hype.. and insn't the next jamie carragher Campbell N/a
syston_fox Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Im in a good mood - generous is the future Henderson 7 - Nothing much to do, but what he did was spot on. Edworthy N/A Tunchev 8 - A rock. Morrison 7.5 - Much better prospect at right back than Hobbs. Decent enough cover. Mattock 8 - Really impressed me tonight. Always looking to get forward and played some great stuff. Oakley 8 - Continued where he left off against Stevenage. Seems to have a more free role and is looking more dangerous going forward... King 8 - THAT pass to Oakley deserves an extra half point right there. Berner 6 - The one weaker spot.... but having him there does open up the play for King and Oakley Dyer 7 - great goal. Howard 7.5 - Won headers all over the place and the flick for Dyer's goal was Brian Deane-esque Fryatt 7 - Certainly contributed and appeared less selfish than normal when forward. More of that please! Subs:- Hobbs 6 Dj N/A
Cobbo Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Thought on the whole we were excellent tonight. First half especially. Howard was brilliant in so much of our play. Henderson - 7 Edworthy - 7 Morrison - 7 Tunchev - 8 Mattock - 7 Oakley - 7 Berner - 7 King - 7.5 Dyer - 8 Fryatt - 7.5 Howard - 8 Subs: Hobbs - 7 Campbell - not really on long enough
Thracian Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Henderson 7 (Deserves 7 for his second successive clean sheet and for another night of faultless handling and good decision making. Looked totally in charge even if there wasn't a lot of threat). Edworthy 4 (Not sure he deserved that. Yes he was present while we played some good football and he made one vital interception but he was twice skinned alive by their winger and his departure only emphasised the risks of playing veterans with questionable ability to last the pace. If Gilbert remains unfit the sooner we get Lee Cox involved now the better. the right back spot is becoming an embarrassment.). Morrison 6 (No sort of advert for the beautiful game but helped maintain another clean sheet). Tunchev 7.25 (Defensive kingpin. He just reads things so well and tries to do be constructive on the ball). Mattock 7 (Showed something close to his best Academy form. Got forward with enthusiasm and defended soundly. Never slipped into the mentality of "anything will do"). Oakley 6 (First half fine, just a continuation of the Stevenage adventure. Offered precious little second half). Berner 5.5 (His first 45 minutes was the best I've seen from him but he didn't spoil me with extras after the break. Became totally anonymous and left King desperately looking for a passing option at times). King 7.5 (MoM for me. Totally orchestrated our first half dominance and delivered one or two visionary passes including one in particular which almost gave Oakley a goal. Found he'd been almost deserted by his team-mates second half because so many of them stopped looking for the ball and the team stopped trying to move forward collectively). Dyer 7 (Quality goal from a quality move. His goals return is excellent for a winger at this stage of the season and he threatened on other occasions but just didn't get the necessary movement and support around him seocnd half). Fryatt 6 (Like a firework he showed a few pretty colours then faded. One early shot from a Howard pass was not far wide but Howard 7 (Set up Dyer's goal and had a few worthwhile efforts himself. Looked increasingly tired second half). Subs: Hobbs 6 (Defensively sound enough). Campbell (irrelevent). Pearson 5.5 (First half terrific, second half took the idea of being functional to new depths).
syston_fox Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Edworthy 3 (Not sure he deserved that. Yes he was present while we played some good football but he was skinned alive by their winger and his departure only emphasised the risks of playing veterans with questionable ability to last the pace. If Gilbert remains unfit the sooner we get Lee Cox involved now the better. I'm sick of seeing excuses for right backs). I'd say that was very harsh on Edworthy who I thought was fairly steady until he went off. How he won the ball from the low cross was beyond me - I was already on the verge of cursing going one down.

clazkel Posted 11 November 2008 Posted 11 November 2008 Hendo - 7 Edworthy - 6.5 Tunchev - 7 Morrison - 7 Mattock - 7 Oakley - 8 King - 8 Berner - 7 Dyer - 7.5 Fryatt - 7 Howard - 7 Hobbs - 6.5
Thracian Posted 12 November 2008 Posted 12 November 2008 I agree, but come on, it's not like Thracian to have a go at older players. I've given him an additional mark for that interception but it doesn't make our problems in the right back position any less pressing. As for older players generally, I do have serious reservations about their ability to last the pace of a league campaign in general. However I've been quite pleased with the contribution of our experienced players this season, and I think that's been fully reflected in the marks I've given to the likes of Henderson, Powell, Howard and Oakley. But there's another side to the picture. Edworthy's out, Dickov's been injured for most of his time here, Clemence is a long term casualty, while Kishishev, Hayles and N'Gotty have hardly been seen. Altogether that's not my idea of value.
Durnerz Posted 12 November 2008 Posted 12 November 2008 Henderson 7 - Easiest night he'll have for a long time. Edworthy 6 - Looked solid and got forward well in his time on the pitch, impressed me. Tunchev 8 MOM- Solid and won everything, superb performance, coolness brought calm throughout the team. Morrison 7 - Much more assured performance. Mattock 7 - Great forward running, skills and looks much better in the air than ever before. Oakley 7 - Decent passing and got stuck in, what being a captain is all about. Berner 7 - A lot of his work went unnoticed I felt, put in a solid performance much like Callum Davidson used to in our central midfield. King 7 - Great runs and relished the extra support from Berner behind him allowing him to bomb on, looks more natural playing this way. Dyer 6 - Great finish but passing and general decisions left a lot to be desired. Howard 7 - Did well against a tall Yeovil back line, assist for goal and worked hard. Fryatt 6 - Not his night tonight sadly, good early signs but went missing a fair bit. Subs: Hobbs 6 - Average but will give him confidence after recent displays.

Pearson 5.5 (First half terrific, second half took the idea of being functional to new depths). I have to disagree with the ratings of these two players. Discussions with the people I have a st with placed these as two of our top preformers Morrison, although sometimes he hit it long for Howard, when he does it is not aimless and infact setup (via Howard) our only goal. Also he played numerous short passes and only resulted in longer balls when Oakley wasn't in his right wing position. Finally when he went to right back he played a large number of short passes, supported the attacks well and generally allowed our team to look like it had some type of balance for the first time in a while. As for Berner, I recall he made the best pass of the game with alow cross field balll to dyre that eluded their right back. His strength and assurance in midfield have led to Andy King (in the last two games I have seen) being released to do a far more productive job. This good form from King is not inspite of Berner but because Berner is doing all the donkey work. King looks like a new player, but you watch if the time comes for him and Oakley to be the CM partnership King will not play as well. I say this not to just disagree with you but because I think we have some good players in these two who sometimes seem to get a hardtime of it.

When Morrison played a pass from right back that was it, job done. Except it's not. He needs to move forward and take up another supporting position ready to receive the ball again. It wasn't done and times in the second half such moves as we had became more and more ragged. Berner contributed to this. First half he was fine. Plenty of involvement and that excellent pass you mentioned. Second half I didn't think he gave King anything like the support he needed and if people are going to function well for one half instead of two they're not going to get high marks.
carterfox90 Posted 12 November 2008 Posted 12 November 2008 they all deserve top marks for just being top of the league
DanTheFox07 Posted 12 November 2008 Posted 12 November 2008 Well Delighted were sitting top of the league, but this league is so tight that we need another 3 point cushion if possible more, Long way to go in the season but I have to say im happy in general with the way things are going! just want mandaric to get us a silky cm on loan! got any contacts at Arsenal Mandaric?
Thracian Posted 12 November 2008 Posted 12 November 2008 they all deserve top marks for just being top of the league To me we sold ourselves short. But if you want to include marks for the feelgood factor, who'd want to argue?
Ric Flair Posted 12 November 2008 Posted 12 November 2008 Henderson 7 - Dunno if he deserves a 7, he didn't have anything to do. Took one very difficult catch and did look to start our attacks by throwing it out instead of aimless hoofs. Edworthy 6 - Looked steady before he went off. Made a good interception early on and showed his experience well. Morrison 7 - Did well. Won everything in the air and when moved to right back he looked confident. Looked to pass far more than hitting the long balls he's rumoured to do. I'm glad he's back right now. Tunchev 7.5 - Piece of piss for him, it really was. It was like asking a highly regarded dentist to just administer giving a patient some mouth wash and then that's it, shift over. Good work. Colossal. Won everything, had time to kill on the ball and used it well. The best foreign signing since Kamaark IMO. Mattock 7.5 - Brilliant first half, love it when he get's as much joy as he did last night. Just want to see him become more accurate with crossing and shooting. He should be capable of chipping in with a few goals the way he is playing. Oakley 7 - Was superb first half, but his passing became sloppy in the closing stages of the 2nd half. Got forward well and could have scored a stunning goal, had it fell to his right peg, i'm sure he would have done. King 8* - Looked different class for the majority of the game, first half especially. Great passing, and that through ball to Oakley was mesmerising. Loving his new role. Berner 6 - Gave the team more balance and did the scrappy things well. Keeps things simple and is keen to get involved with new and fancy set pieces. Dyer 7 - Composed finish and won us the game. Had 2 men on him most of the game but still caused a lot of problems. Could and possibly should have scored another in the 2nd half. Fryatt 7 - An all round decent performance. Looked sharp and chased down absolutely everything. Didn't get that many clear cut chances but carved a few openings out for himself and i'm not sure how close his early effort was, from my angle I thought it was on it's way in, only for it to drift wide. Thought that rasper of a free kick was heading in as well. Howard 7 - Very dangerous first half, and got the assist. Was influential in holding the ball up and laying it off to Dyer, Oakley and King. 2nd half, he looked shattered and it showed by making some bad errors, especially in the last few minutes where we went from an attacking position with options available to giving the ball to Yeovil and them counter attacking, leading to panic.
