Remember my Grandad telling me he went to that Pompey semi-final.

leicesterseddon Posted 10 December 2009 Posted 10 December 2009 'This event, which in English football outshines all else...' Couldn't say that these days. Top find. And also...that bloke dressed in white conducting the crowd during 'Abide with me' Bring him out of retirement I say, fook the gospel choirs
Captain... Posted 11 December 2009 Posted 11 December 2009 "Leicester City were given 2 chances a dog's chance and no chance at all..." - I like it I didn't know that Don Revie played for us back in the day
Guest Posted 4 April 2010 Posted 4 April 2010 Ripped off unceremoniously from TB, and a search shows that Pathe isn't mentioned..... Some clips of the Boys from years gone by. Some of you might even remember those days I was pleased to see goals from the 1949 FA Cup semi-final as my granddad gave me a commemorative tea towel of this game. Don Revie's second is a peach of a goal.
Sampson Posted 4 April 2010 Posted 4 April 2010 Thanks. Great to see the footage of the cup runs in the 60's. There's a clip from the 63 semi-final vs Liverpool. That was one of my most memorable matches growing up. Liverpool battered our goal with shots the whole game and Banks just kept saved everything and we somehow won 1-0, that was about the time Banks was really starting to reach his peak and our entire defence felt unbeatable at that time. We really thought we were going to win the double that season, we only lost the league title because of late season injuries. Hard to believe nowadays, but we were top of the First Division with about 5 or 6 games to go and then completely fell apart without key players and lost the lot. The cup final performance was also bitterly disappointing, we really didn't play to our best at all that game. That 62/63 team is still to this day the best City team put together in my lifetime, such a shame they never won anything.

Both my granddads were regulars, as was my dad, and they all speak highly of that team. I wish I could have seen it, although my dad is probably glad I wasn't around back then!!

Guest Posted 4 April 2010 Posted 4 April 2010 Didn't you see the thugs waving their scarves? Sit down, I say, sit down.
MC Prussian Posted 4 April 2010 Posted 4 April 2010 That 1967 clip is hilarious. Especially when listening to the German commentary, they clearly state that Leicester won that exhibition match 2-1 (as opposed to the text mentioned on the Pathe website).
Guest Posted 4 April 2010 Posted 4 April 2010 Didn't Essex Fox do a thread on this a few months ago? I searched, and it came up with nowt. As per the first post.
Fosse Boy Posted 5 April 2010 Author Posted 5 April 2010 Didn't Essex Fox do a thread on this a few months ago? Indeed I did...
OzFox Posted 5 April 2010 Posted 5 April 2010 Didn't you see the thugs waving their scarves? Sit down, I say, sit down. Ruffians the lot of them! Look at all that lovely terracing....now that would have been an atmosphere
OzFox Posted 5 April 2010 Posted 5 April 2010 Peter Harris from 5yards was hilarious!! Too right. That was a shocker (lucky for us!)
