  1. Why wouldn’t he? We just handed someone a three year contract on presumably top level Championship wages. We’d probably pay more in wages than Burnley was. We must be paying a fair amount or why would Russell Martin with all his experience in the top two divisions want to drop to the third tier? And you’re right - that bin fire of a list would have wound people up no end if any of them turned up here. But the point remains - one promotion from the Championship to the Premier League does not make this appointment some kind of coup. Promotion is the absolute minimum objective for the season. It’s a financial imperative. But promotion alone won’t be enough to consider the season a runaway success - anything less than champions is our lowest ever final position in the league. I’m operating under the assumption he will get us promoted. He has to. How he does it remains to be seen. And whether he sees out his three year contract is the real marker - if he’s any good, he’ll still be here in May 2029. Definitely some hyperbole about how bad the appointment is, but you can’t really blame people with all the warning signs that exist.
  2. Billy Davies Phil Brown Paul Jewell Plenty of men out there that got promoted from the Championship to the Premier League… many of them free agents. Tony Pulis maybe? Scott Parker maybe? We’d pay silly wages to attract someone down to League One… let’s face it, we’ve just convinced someone to take the step from second richest club in Scotland, so there must be some draw. Unless of course there’s a reason someone would be happy to drop two divisions inside twelve months… A promotion from the Championship to the Premier League isn’t an indicator that we’ve done well or this is some kind of coup - those are just the club’s media lines - we could’ve hired any number of others with Premier League promotion experience, but that wouldn’t make them a coup… Paul Jewell’s Blue & White Army!
  3. Didn’t see it; but assuming the Iraqi’s were fannying about in their own box with the ball?
  4. Jokes on them, you can’t get blood from a ****ing stone.
  5. I thought the comment from Mandy about instilling a winning mentality was interesting. Haven’t compared side to side but feels different from the MBA Buzzwords for Breakfast about alignment and synergy and all that bollocks I’ve come to expect in the modern era. Straight and to the point - let’s win some shit. On average twice a season, typically coinciding with the start of the season and then immediately upon the sacking of that season’s incumbent manager. Still, getting the recruitment right THIS summer is absolutely critical. And probably the winter window for Martin’s replacement, to be fair… In what way do we all want to win? I’d be happy to stick to the “score more goals than the opposition” method of winning but open to suggestions. Is this a veiled reference to winning in a court of law rather than on footballing merit? Is he having a dig at our financial misdeeds already?
  6. @Ric Flair More Pearson quotes from 20 June 2008: He said: "I am delighted that I have been given this magnificent opportunity to revitalise the fortunes of this great club after what has been a difficult few years. "I have an enormous amount of respect for Chairman Milan Mandaric and Chief Executive Lee Hoos, who I worked very closely with at Southampton, and I can promise everyone connected with this club that I will be giving the job my 100 per cent commitment. "I am privileged to have been given the chance to turn around the fortunes of a club with so much history and such a strong fan base, and I am confident that my style of management can help bring the good times back to Leicester City. "From speaking to the Chairman, it is evident how much this club means to him and that's why I am determined not to let him or the supporters down. "There has been far too much disappointment and negativity attached to this club in recent seasons and it is my job to change that. "The infrastructure is firmly in place; it is now time to start performing consistently on the pitch and that is what I have been brought here to do. "League One is a tough division to get out of but we will play the necessary football required to gain promotion and in the process give our magnificent fans something to cheer about," he added. Somewhat hilariously, Mandaric made reference to the number of season tickets sold as part of the announcement: "We have currently got over 10,000 season ticket holders signed up for the new campaign and that is on a par to where we were this time last year. That's a fantastic achievement. "As a club we must now instil a winning mentality once again. This club has been going nowhere for four long years, but it's time for that to change. There has been too much negativity around this place and that's something that we must eradicate. "As a unit we can now move forward. We must all now get behind Nigel and his players make this fantastic club great once again." As for the reaction here on FT, the first Pearson OUT post appears to be 23 June 2008.

  8. That would require planning and foresight. I’d be amazed. They’re more likely to announce it when they think they’ll get more attention - they think this is a coup and we’re still big news worthy of attention, despite being in the third tier.
  9. Every single one of our defenders have an error in them, they’ll fit right in. Winks is great at pointing at other people when he’s cocked up, so he’s a given. Turns out we only really need to rebuild our attack.
  10. The good news is, he has a track record in League One - he finished 19th (partial season) and 13th, so it’s clear he’s above this level. I guess you could argue he’s never been relegated from the Championship, so maybe that’s not above his level.

I can only see this rebuild going brilliantly, based on our track record.
  12. Tweedle-Twat and Tweedle-Dumb clearly have such raging semis for the bloke, that they could bin him off in six months and then give him a call in two years and four managers time to see if he’d be willing to come back… ”Remember that Pearson bloke we didn’t want, he came back and did alright… maybe Martin would work second time around!”
  13. Au contraire mon frère! Funniest shit I’ve read in at least five minutes.
  14. Doubt they’ve even heard of Alan Sheehan.
  15. Nothing has been said. Presumed to be keeping him in the back pocket when we fail to catch anyone else.
  16. I don’t know why we’re getting worked up over any of this. It’s all a load of pollocks anyway.
  17. Do we think René fall for Top & Rudkin’s usual bullshit hook, line and sinker?
  18. If the rumours are true that we’re interested in - or have even heard of - Hake, then maybe, just maybe we’re casting our net a bit wider than usual.
  19. One way or another this is going to be a Sole crushing summer of speculation.
  20. We’ll definitely have conceded more goals even if it is.
  21. Maybe… except we haven’t announced Rowett had departed yet, so there’s a genuine danger Rowett is this season’s Cooper to the Russell Potter character. Banter. There’s no way we go shopping in the SPL for this upcoming rebuild.
