I think it's slightly underestimated how much people in the public eye can themselves be radicalized by stuff in the media. There are for example loads of seemingly quite intelligent celebrities who have spiralled into posting pretty unhinged stuff daily on social media. This is probably especially true for someone like Truss who as you say was totally humiliated in 2022. Having said that she always was a bit unhinged.

Not really. For a start there have been wars and ethnic cleansing in Europe since WWII. NATO didn't stop that happening. It hasn't happened in countries in the EU as obviously territorial and economic integration has ensured. Arguably the biggest destabilizing factor in the EU is blowback from the US and UK interventions in the Middle East. The EU has brought stability and prosperity. Anglo Saxon countries don't like to admit that because they like to believe only they can guarantee those things.
