Premier League 24/25 Pre-season guff (misc talking points)
Livid replied to davieG's topic in Leicester City Forum
We have a fixture clash with the Tiger's on 21st December, as they are already set to be on TV (every game is!) it looks like the Wolves game is going to have to move. -
I don't have much sympathy for them, they want their actions to draw attention to their cause well here we have it. Having said that the Government want to reduce the prison population and we have to be looking at some form of alternatives for non violent crime. I want anyone carrying a weapon doing five years, I want those riding around on scooters looking to nick whatever they can in broad daylight banged up and off the streets, I want rioters who overturn police cars and smash up buses sitting in a cell considering their life choices. I want climate change activists so preoccupied in working in the community that they don't have time to protest against anything. They were an easy collar, not wearing a hoodie or a ski mask and not making any attempt to flee the scene of their crime.

Not had any notification but just logged onto my ticket account and it was available to download and add to my wallet.

I'm hoping we have pulled the plug. It's obvious he doesn't want to move here, the only reason (and I know footballers are a mercenary bunch) he would choose us would be for the money. Loyalty to the City aside your options are Rome or a relegation fight in Leicester, i'm choosing Rome.

I emailed them about it last week, apparently all new mobile passes are due to be emailed out this week.

What do we do? It’s become obvious Southgate can’t seem to get the best out of what’s at his disposal but somehow we keep doing well at tournaments but failing to get over the line. Do we go with him again ? Personally I’ve always thought he was a FA yes man and tactically he’s as dull as his personality but I don’t know who we look to for us to take that final step.
-
Still not Southgate’s biggest fan, he’s had some easy routes to get us to the positions we have and I think that he’s been getting credit for some results that have been achieved in spite of him and not because of him but I’m letting it all go. I’m 55 I’ve seen my club win every major domestic trophy and I would love to see England win something. I think we have a very good chance if we get our tactics right and don’t play into Spain’s hands.

Anyone had their mobile ticket update to the first game of the season. I had one last season and I thought mine had but then I looked yesterday and it moved into the expired passes and I moved it back to the current passes but there’s no info on it.

Off to see AC/DC at Wembley tonight if they play Thunderstruck during a thunderstorm I think the place would explode (hopefully not literally!)
-
I’m messing about on my phone with it on in the background, it seems a little better than what I’ve seen so far.

It’s just very bland. I know there’s only so much you can do with a blue shirt but surely it could have a little more pizzazz than this. ‘Foxes never quit’ 14 months after we downed tools and threw away our premier league status.

The Gaslight Anthem at Rock City next Wednesday which could clash with England’s Semi Final. Still going the gig, nothing is won at the semi final stage.

I will be voting Labour primarily as i'm desperate to get the Tories out and secondly as i'm a party member. I'm socially liberal but on the economy i'm conservative with a very very small C. There are certain aspects of the Labour party and Keir Starmer's leadership that worry me. Maybe it's because i'm approaching my golden years but there seems to be little regard to the issue of Social Care in their manifesto, it's a timebomb they just appear to be ignoring. From a party that brought about the NHS and Welfare State they should be aiming higher. There was an interview the other day where Starmer was asked if there were any plans to drop the percentage of a pension that could be taken tax free and he totally fluffed his answer, they later put out a press release saying there were no "planned" changes. A lot of things aren't planned, not exactly convincing. They appear to be very anti rejoining the EU, and I get we can't be flip flopping every decade, but there only reasoning seems to be "Well we had a vote", well we had a vote to elect the current bunch of clowns five years ago, on that basis maybe we should just stick with them. They seem to have adopted the "Stop the boats" mantra in their manifesto just to try and avoid losing votes to Reform and to me that feels off. I've a feeling I won't be a member of the party when the next election rolls around but they've got 5 years to convince me they are up to the job. I'm no Corbanista but i'm not happy with them being Torylite either.

Another good listen. To be fair if there was any consultation the club would never be able to layout anything close to the full financial situation we’re in. It is a business and has constraints. Within hours it would all be over here and social media. I know we kicked off a little about season ticket increases and the card charge but in comparison to match day prices they were nothing. If we go down, and let’s be there’s a good chance, it will be interesting to see what happens to match day prices.

I haven’t read the entire thread but any chance it’s not out yet as we’re trying to secure a new sponsor ?

Not my biggest love, I prefer much smaller venues. Unfortunately if you want to see any of the really big artists you have to bite the bullet. There’s no stadium in the midlands of any real size so you have to travel to Cardiff/Edinburgh/Glasgow/Manchester or London to see them. Any localish hotel price is instantly doubled or trebled. I’m at Wembley for Green Day next Saturday and in a weak moment months ago apparently booked a drop and flop room at Holiday Inn at Watford for £140. I’m going to cancel that and drive back. They keep increasing capacity of these venues but the public transport facilities to get away just keep operating on a standard timetable. Ticketmaster are pretty much legalised scalpers through their premium tickets and resale where you actually get your tickets days before the gig. Customer service is non existent because of the near total control they have they couldn’t care less. I would vote for anyone in this GE who was willing to aggressively take on companies of the likes of Ticketmaster who just continually abuse the market position they have. That’s never going to happen.

If you can do a bit more spur of the moment have a look on Twickets nearer the date. An awful lot of what sells out instantly becomes available later on.

I think the days of the King Power love in are over for us. They seem to have shifted their position to align with any other owner in the league. Having said that I think at the moment it’s better the devil you know.

Foo Fighters at West Ham last night, very good but there’s just something that doesn’t quite click with me that would move them into that great category. I went with a mate and we both felt that way going in and the same afterwards. I don’t think the London Stadium is a bad venue but the stage seemed so far away unless you were prepared to stand for hours to get close to the stage. Most football grounds the stage sits in the penalty area but because West Ham have those big gaps the goals I don’t think the stage even reached the start of the pitch. A good night, would definitely go again but wouldn’t be heartbroken if I couldn’t get a ticket.
