Southampton are pretty much what I saw from us last season, the benefit of last season being our opponents were miles poorer and we were able to take advantage of it. Southampton are what I expected us to be like this year with maybe a bit more fight and quality.

Fair enough, I thought the chant to the new ref "who the f*ing hell are you?" was funny, but a guy goes down with a potential concussion and fans are chanting at him as he's laying on the ground. Fair enough if fans found it funny, maybe i'm out of touch on this.

Personally I just feel the gap is too big, I think Jakub, Thomas, Okoli, Nelson, Vestergaard if we can't move him on, El Khannouss if he stays, Alves, Fatawu, Mavididi, Skipp, plus the players we might keep like Ricardo, Winks, Souttar etc are all capable of battling at the top end or atleast top 6.

The gap between the prem and the Championship is absolutely massive, we have multiple young talents that can do really well at that level already, we also have players like Okoli who are not quite at the required prem level yet but more than good enough for the Champinship, Alves, El Khannouss (providing we keep him), Fatawu, Mavididi, Thomas, Jakub. Southampton will be expected to be one of the top 3 in the Champ (I think they will be strongest next year personally) and I thought coming into today we would comfortably beat them. I want multiple managers over Ruud, but I'm not going to have a meltdown if he stays because I think he gets us back up regardless.

No, that's not what I said. I stated that moving Rudkin on is a priority over Ruud, but I don't want either of them in their current role, I made the separate point that we have a squad capable of promotion with or without Ruud and that we should only get rid if we are going to replace him with a manager that fits within a proper 5 year plan, not a short term "fixer". Again, can we normalise reading posts before responding.

Said it before and I think this game will prove it, Ruud can get us promoted, do I want him here? Not really. Is he a priority to move on over Rudkin? Absolutely not. We have the squad to fight for top 6 with or without Ruud. We should only get rid if we have a proper 5 year plan in place and a manager who can be there for that period. If we are just going to sack Ruud and bring in a short term fixer it's pointless.

They are mid table in league form since he took over, he’s really turned them around and rightly says they would be safe if he had come sooner. Very interesting one!

Wednesday have definitely fallen off towards the end of the season but a lot of Wednesday fans are not that surprised, having lost their best player to a Southampton loan recall (Shea Charles) and undergoing what most would consider the beginning of a massive rebuild with 12 players leaving (inc 3 loans) and 14 players coming in with a total spend of about £5m (7 free transfers, 4 fees, 3 loans) They looked like they could nick a championship playoff spot but the turn of the year saw the results start to slip. During this period of bad form, the players have consistently not been paid on multiple occasions, the owner told the fans at a fans forum if they want him gone they should buy the club or find a buyer, and then told the fans if they have a problem with him, he would stop repaying loans and the fans can repay them. It's one of the most difficult working environments in football at the moment and Wednesday fans, whilst rightly criticising mistakes Rohl has made, overall the vast majority want him to stay and think they will go down next season if he leaves.

It's a strange one, you've said basically the same as me but come to the opposite conclusion, and yet I don't really disagree with you, i'm probably just being pessimistic on this perticular subject where I've been optimistic on our chances of promotion next season. I came to the conclusion that we are a premier league club in facilities (and running costs), but completely bloated in the Championship where if we don't manage to shift the deadwood and we make mistakes in summer could be 1 bad window from becoming a Championship club with a huge financial weight on our shoulders. It feels like the club is on a knife edge between making a few more mistakes and killing us off completely, or making a few sensible decisions around management and playing staff that could see us straight back up.

I’m in the same boat. I just don’t think we have the players and would be able to bring in enough to compete at the next level. With that said though, premier league survival seems miles away at the moment, we need a full reset with ALL of the deadwood shipped out and replaced with younger hungry players and that is something Martin would offer. I think hypothetically if he got us up next season, was given 50-80m to spend the following summer and we then subsequently got relegated again, he would leave us as a club in a much healthier place than he would inherit this summer, and I’d imagine it would be a club that would have a far more sustainable wage budget. I don’t want him, but I think he would improve our current situation at least

Martin is likely the perfect candidate for KPFC, he improves players technically, doesn’t go for over the hill big earners on huge wages for “experience”, has a clear identity that the club aligns with, and from a fans perspective he seems to drive standards and culture and speaks really well and honestly. But good lord I don’t want to see that style of possession at all costs football again. Martins interview with Lineker was a great listen, and he admitted to mistakes, but then went and ruined it by saying that he’s now more wedded to his system than ever before. If he’s willing to drop his philosophy he ticks every box, if he’s determined to go for maximum possession stats above all else then I’d rather gouge my eyes out. From a results perspective and a cultural perspective though, I think we could do a lot worse than Martin.

This, I think in this situation our facilities actually hold us back from a buyout. We have probably top 10 facilities in world football, but we have a squad full of deadwood bleeding money, and we are one bad window away from being in serious trouble on and off the pitch. We have to face it really. The only likely way we get bought out is if we get promoted, if fans want to reset and rebuild and potentially not get promoted next year to balance the books and lower the wage budget, that will likely be under KP. The only way I could see us getting bought out in the Championship is by one of the big Middle Eastern companies/wealth funds, they are the only ones who can afford that sort of investment for a bloated Championship club in complete disarray.
