Replays this week: Results only after 90 minutes. Coventry v Sheff Wed plymouth v Leeds Southampton v Watford Forest v Bristol City Villa v Chelsea -

I fancy Jordan to knock off South Korea, but should be 2 good semis: My money is on an Iran v Jordan final. South Korea have equalised in the 96th and 99th minute in their knock out games and gone on to win both in extra time. Surely can’t keep getting so lucky. They also got a 91st minute equaliser last time they played Jordan in the group stages. On the other hand Jordan themselves scored twice in time added on to knock out Iraq in the round of 16. So this game is going right to the final kick.

To be fair, this photo was taken as Vardy had just scored a penalty late on to make it 5-0. I think fans can be excused leaving early when 4-0 down and the opposition has a penalty.

Whilst I think we are going well and playing some great football, the next 4 games could be interesting… in the reverse fixtures we only picked up 4 points from these games - and three of them were at home to Watford. After that, we play Sheff Wed, Middlesbrough and Leeds who we picked up a combined 1 point earlier in the season. If, we can safely navigate the games before we play Bournemouth in the cup and pick up 9 points+ then we are in an incredibly strong position moving into the final quarter of the season. Worth also noting, the last 12 games of our season, we took 33 points from the reverse fixtures.

Giving him a new contract now does allow us to get a fee for him if we decide he’s not what we need in the PL. Burnley, look like they are coming down and if Kompany stays and wants to play the same way, Vestergaard would be an ideal signing for them. No new contract and he walks out for nothing.
-
Depending on Vestergaard injury, even if it’s not serious, maybe not a bad time to give him a week off, but I’d bring in Nelson. I would go with Justin over Doyle for this game, not to say Doyle hasn’t played well in the last couple. I think I’d also bring in Yunus from the start over McAteer and then despite Cannon and Vardy looking really good, in the way we want to play Daka is the best option for us. Hermansen Ricardo Nelson Faes Justin Winks KDH Yunus Fatawu Daka Mavididi

If we are on 96 points with 8 other games, I would be fairly certain we’d be going up. If we lose games to both Southampton and Leeds - but win all the rest, then we are champions.

Mathematically speaking, the maximum points each team can get is: Leicester 120 Southampton 112 Ipswich 110 Leeds 108 WBA 99 Hull 96 Sunderland 94 Middlesborough 94 Cov 92 Norwich 92 Cardiff 91 PNE 90 Watford 89 Plymouth 87 Bristol City 86 Blackburn 84 Birmingham 83 Millwall 81 Swansea 81 Stoke 80 Huddersfield 79 QPR 76 So mathematically speaking, 111points make certain of promotion. So 13 wins from our remaining games - If Southampton and Ipswich achieved maximum points from their games - as they still have to play each other 12 wins and 2 draws would make it certain.

Bring back the Anglo-Italian Cup - I used to love that trophy, wish we could have gone deep and won that one year.
-
The position we’re in now, it doesn’t even matter the games against Southampton and Leeds. We’ve got 8 games remaining against bottom half teams, win those games and we’re on 96 points, with another 8 games to play.

Winks and Ricardo are so far above anything at this level it’s almost not fair. Bonus points for Faes for that run leading to the penalty. I thought Nelson was outstanding when he came in, I know we have Coady and Souttar will be back next week, but, if Vestergaard is out for any period of time I’d like to see Nelson be given a full 90. -
Best not to make any assumptions, we’ve got the points on the board, every passing week the pressure increases slightly on those who would like to catch us.

I’m pretty sure I’m correct in saying, this is our first league game away at Stoke since that 0-0 draw? When they ran on the pitch to rub it in. Well since then we’ve both had relegations, but one of us has won 3 league titles, including the big one! The fa cup, the community shield and had a champions league 1/4 final and another European semi. Despite all that, I’d still love to batter them today, just to completely be at ease with that memory.

Time will tell if this window was a disaster or not, what I do know is twice in the PL when we were in the position to get Champions League football, we failed to strengthen the side in January and we missed out. We’ve again failed to strengthen, and with Ndidi injured and Casadei returning we are weaker in a critical area. I get money isn’t available due to FFP, but again we come back to the failure to move on players who are not required or who could be replaced cheaper. It’s disappointing and it’s a regular occurrence in the transfer market.
