Quite frankly given how essential resources like water and crops may become much harder to source in the next few decades, I think that is likely inevitable if we hold our present course as a species. Bad thing is that such a revolution would likely end up with the worst of humanity wielding even more power as people would be so desperate brutal instinct would likely be the dominant ideology.

...oh, so the Heil either embellished the truth or outright lied in order to undermine an institution still populated (mostly) by decent people looking to help others?

Yeah, Chile beat Canada and then the US lost to Portugal in the final regional playoff. High drama too - Portugal scored a penalty with 82 minutes gone to draw the game 16-16 and went through instead of the USA on points difference.

And the historical enmity as a whole goes on for a lot longer than that too. How incredibly sad it all is. Simply pointless death and suffering. Here's hoping that in this case they can be the middleman then. Interesting the China did the same to broker an agreement between the Saudis and Iran too. But there are still far too many hotheads running the show on all sides.

Truer words never spoken. Are there any rational adults at all in international relations?

Christ, Finn, what sport are we talking about here?

Yeah, the middle order just folded up, unfortunate. -
I beg your pardon, I was under the impression that you thought the UK could not improve in this regard at all, rather than a much more "perfect" solution where a very large proportion of the population opt for public transport. Of course, the latter has no examples, but I would say that (South) Korea is a fine example of public transportation being used widely, successfully, and taking a lot of the burden off of private transportation, even though there are still a great many people there who do use cars. It is also comparable to the UK in terms of land area, population and (to a degree) population distribution.

Can see the Dutch getting agonisingly close and falling just short here. -
TBF I can see Russian mercs being so idiotically machismo that they might do something as stupid as that, but I'm also pretty damn sure that didn't happen in this case.
-
If this is all so supposedly unachievable, then why does public transport in other comparable nations to the UK have a much bigger slice of the pie? They have shown it is in fact possible to have a network that serves at least a decent slice of the population.

Well, that's a serious kicking first up. -
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-67017021 The world's September temperatures were the warmest on record, breaking the previous high by a huge margin, according to the EU climate service. Last month was 0.93C warmer than the average September temperature between 1991-2020, and 0.5C hotter than the previous record set in 2020. Great to be a record breaker, ne?

On this track I'd suggest 300-320 puts things at about 50/50. Just remains to see if England get there. -
Will say it again: practically every other comparable country puts the UK to shame in terms of public transport infrastructure projects. And they have reliable, safe and unionised ( @kenny ) workforce most of the time, too.

That being said, this is the way England have approached ODIs for years now - high risk while batting deep enough to ensure the law of averages works in your favour much more often than not - and it has been successful. Not going to knock them too much when it's worked often enough for considerable success, more so than any other approach. -

Can't bring myself to criticise the guy too much given his form in all formats so far... but yeah. Poor decision making and execution. -
And where have we heard that before? He's learned from some very capable exponents of that ego.

They do - but only when they're playing. -
Given events in the last few years ago over the world, I'm discounting next to nothing in terms of what the powerful and the sociopathic are capable of. Of course, I hope you're right though.

Here's hoping that also happens to the one (or ones) he's based his whole recent schtick on, too. Beginning with a certain New York civil case happening right now.

Pretty sure that one actually achieved escape velocity and is now orbiting the Sun. Certainly was moving fast enough.

That kind of comment seems pretty typical of him.

What really makes you think that the current party in power aren't both intent on doing that and PR savvy enough to get enough of the public to accept it by dressing it up as something else?
