I have been making this point for a very long time. I’ve had it on good authority a fair few times that the last manager that truly trusted and utilised the scouting department was Enzo. All of the managers inbetween wanted full say in the process of selecting options and the narrowing down process. When I see comments such as “sack the scouting department” truthfully haven’t got a clue how the process works and how bad the club is in putting faith in their scouts. That’s why so many leave because they’ve felt under valued.

He’s still got around £6m in book value, so £8m would give you around £2m profit. As long as the money isn’t based on performance add ons and all guaranteed we’ve got to take that offer and reinvest that profit into a new centre back and then get another on loan. Interesting bit of information that I have clocked here is that Wilder has come out and said they only paid £5m for Mark McGuiness despite it being heavily reported that the fee was £10m. Wouldn’t be surprised if we are using that higher fee as indicator for what Sheff Utd need to pay for Souttar and Wilder is downplaying the fee as a negotiation tactic. May be completely irrelevant just seems an odd coincidence of timing.

Harsh on Braybrooke but based on Northampton alone I would play Alves in the 10 next to Burns as I can’t see Chaplin being ready to start.

Why do people always assume this is one sided? What if the agreement was similar to Monga’s where the player signs professional terms on the basis the club would allow talks to top 6 clubs if they were interested? Very reasonable agreement on both sides. Youngster or not if he would rather be somewhere else then let’s get a good deal for the club and move on. I do wonder whether the club are more reluctant to accept an offer now on the basis of Nelson’s injury.

Hopefully this game was a bit of a reality check for all involved even us as fans. Pre-season was great but you don’t have teams playing in a low block, man to man or 5 at the back during pre-season. It’s going to take time they’re still at the initial part of implementing this system and will remain so until the end of the window due to the squad turnover. Martin’s system didn’t take off at Southampton until around middle of the season in similar circumstances, if anyone listened to Martin’s interview on Radio Leicester he acknowledged the same as what we seen. Slow tempo and not enough chances created. Hes not gonna say how shit they were and knock confidence right before the season starts. A lot can be learnt from that game, everyone needs to relax and enjoy the season ahead.

When the Cullen signing was getting stick, I made the comment of understanding the signing because he offers you versatility as a winger, no.10 and 3rd choice striker. Very smart signing.

If there is any funds left I would expect John Souttar, alternatively if they’ve been dried up then Malachi Hardy or Finley Burns on loan.

There’s a small part of me that believes Archie Collins hasn’t signed for anyone because we have a deal in place with him but trying to move Skipp out of the door first.

Nail on the head. It’s fair to say I’ve shared very different opinions with yourself on a good amount of business this season for example Cullen. But for me I have 4 main boxes that I want from my football club, 1) A clear footballing identity. 2) A clear plan on what we are trying to achieve with the playing squad through recruitment and a healthy balanced squad in all positions. 3) A mixture of good experience and youth. 4) A desire to wear our club shirt and give it everything. For me personally I would say all those boxes are being ticked. I despise the higher ups of this football club and the sooner they go the better. But at the same time I have to acknowledge and feel positive about my 4 main categories being in place. I fully understand why some can not but that also does not mean we have to treat every bit of news with negativity.

It’s not that he’s barely played for the last 2 season at all though is it? He did his ACL in January and was out for 11 months (standard timeframe of recovery), of course he missed half a season of one season and half of the other that’s just the timing of when he did his ACL. It’s not like his recovery took any longer than the standard ACL, again I will use Fatawu as reference. I understand concern around the injury but that’s why you go off how they seem when they return, to which again Ipswich fans have stated he seems his usual self, but for some reason we ignore that? Yet again using Fatawu as reference would we have that level of concern regarding him staying fit? No, we know he looks his usual self. With regards to Carr, I think he looks a real talent but I don’t understand how you can even come to that conclusion when he has zero football league men’s experience? I understand we’ve been burnt a lot by the likes of Ayew but we can’t paint everyone with the same brush. I understand as a fan base we are desperate to get young keen academy lads into the squad but we don’t need to rush their development that’s when mistakes happen and opinions quickly change, these kids need protecting whether people like it or not. Carr would be our 5th choice winger following these additions, that’s a huge step in his development and great depth for us! No one would have called Carr to be our 5th choice prior to pre-season, so now we have decision to make… is he better served staying with the squad and learning whilst getting an occasional opportunity or do you send him out on loan to play a full season to further develop with real matchday experience. This is a good problem to have it doesn’t need to be viewed as a negative.

I’ve highlighted two points from your post here which again appear to be a narrative which I just don’t feel are true. Burns has played around 20 games since his ACL, that’s just under half a season where he has stayed fit, how much more time do we need to give to state he’s good to go? Ipswich fans are on record stating he seems like his usual self and not lost any of his pace. Let me ask you this, would you question whether Fatawu could stay fit post ACL injury? Because I guarantee many would not yet they did their injuries two months apart?! We live in an era now where ACL injuries are not deemed career ending as they used to once be. Many high profile sportsman have even stated after their ACL injuries that they genuinely feel stronger and more comfortable after surgery. Yes, there is many cases also where that is not the case but that’s where you have to see once they return, to which we have the evidence of that from Ipswich fans saying he looks his usual self. Then your last point, don’t get it twisted because of his age, Wes Burns is currently a very good rotational player at championship level. So with regards to him offering “little to us” at the absolute worse case he’s a good rotation player to have in the squad and either Alves kicks on and takes the starting role or you sign a starting right winger.

The constant forced negativity from the same members on this forum is hilarious. It’s the same members that state we are doomed financially if we don’t go up but also that we should play a whole season with academy players with zero men’s football experience. Make your minds up! This isn’t football manager where you can trust a squad of 20 year olds to go unbeaten. You need the blend of experience for the young lads to turn to and guide through a gruelling season, it’s not rocket science. Throughout RM has said he wants different profiles, Burns gives you exactly that being the more direct winger whilst Alves gives you the inverted option, that’s what you want! This narrative of “he blocks someone’s pathway” is utter bs. If someone was good enough they had a whole pre-season to show it. What more of a chance do you want? I’ve seen people say he blocks Alves, again absolute bs. Sports is based on a squad not the starting 11. Both Alves and Burns will see plenty of game time using rotation to keep both fresh and firing whilst using competition to bring the best out of each other. If they don’t like it then leave because that’s the mindset we can’t put up with no more. It’s literally that simple. Personally I think it’s a great signing. For once in years I look at the squad and see a balanced squad offering different profiles and styles for each position. With the additions of Bristic and Burns all the squad is missing is a proven goalscorer and the squad is complete. Genuinely very happy with the business we’ve done so far each position has some serious competition whilst offering different profiles to rotate dependent on what the opposition puts in front of us.

I would say Paulos Abraham would be more of a Mavididi replacement than striker if he ever does one.

Even if they pay 50% we will probably still save money even with his replacement!
