Southgate wasn’t limited though, he improved the team no end and I don’t think he was a yes man. Even though he bottled it when the pressure got too big. The yes man argument is wrong in my opinion, we appointed people like Capello who turned out to be a disaster and he definitely wasn’t a yes man. International football is all about pathways and systems, you need someone who can oversee that and integrate good players together.

Carsley is not a yes man, if you’ve paid any attention to the under 21’s, he’s an incredibly creative coach who plays a good brand of modern football, and has led the team to glory. If he’s well thought of by the young players who will be the bulk of the team over the next 4/5 years then it wouldn’t be a bad appointment. High profile foreign appointments are often disastrous in international football.

Premier League 24/25 Pre-season guff (misc talking points)

Sounds like Wolves pre season game against Como went well @The Bear. Hwang racially abused and Podence sent off for decking the culprit. No surprise that Dennis Wise is involved at Como. -
Vance as VP basically writes Ukraine’s obituary compared to a ‘moderate’ like Haley or Rubio. Scary times. War is coming to Europe.

The only thing we've learnt from this tournament is that the world cup is going to be a mess. It'll be expensive, in stadiums miles outside of cities with terrible public transport, far too hot, a terrible format, a good chance of getting shot etc. It makes you long for the days of Russia 2018.

Part of the reason why they looked so good is that all the other teams didn’t look particularly good. I think probably the next best team were Germany but for German standards, that’s a poor team. In terms of overall quality of the top teams, I think it was a very weak tournament but I thought the non elite teams actually looked quite good (Türkiye, Austria, Romania, Slovenia etc) albeit not enough quality to go far.

Easy to go to by train too provided the timings work out

It's very, very enjoyable and they reap what they sow. Their staple players got old and they've tried replacing them with average academy players (usually tapped up from other counties) or other established players from other counties, who have one good season and they throw a tonne of money at them. Furthermore, they have that horrible danger as their T20 captain, it honestly couldn't happen to a better bunch. Seeing Derbyshire batter them by 90 runs the other week was bliss, and now we've made fools of them yesterday. Hilarious, I hope they rot.

Yeah there's no chance we sign him permanently, Currie I wouldn't rule out though.

I've read the forums!! Sharon451's explanation made the most sense to me!! I was kind of being sarcastic but he was a dodgy dude and it's well known that the drug mule's run the island and bring good income for it too.

Because it's the England job and for English managers, it's the ultimate. If he fails then he's got credit in the bank to get another PL job. Either way it's not happening, Southgate will stay on or they'll promote from within.

More likely pushed or thrown than fell and Spanish police are covering it up so that they don't upset the wrong people.

It’s not really a surprise though. Thinking of the worst aspects of our tournament eg. Denmark & Slovakia, they pressed us and we couldn’t get through it and gave the ball away a lot. We weren’t by some miracle suddenly a better team than that, all Spain had to do was match that and with their midfielders, they’ll have been a lot better. All tournament I felt we were a midfielder light. Bellingham is a great player but he reminded me a bit of early days Andy King where he just drifted in and out of games. Mainoo will be a great player but yesterday showed how young he still is. Which left Rice who imo is not the creative player that we needed and has struggled all tournament. Not because he’s a bad player but because he’s had more responsibility than his skill set allows. Likewise while people laughed about Southgate missing Phillips, he could always do a good job of bringing the ball forward a lot faster and lot more directly. Likewise Henderson.

Cold hard truth is also running in the 3.45 at Doncaster tomorrow
