I work in data analysis and I'm telling you anyone with a clue will be cautious using black box metrics like this. Of course it is specifically designed to be predictive of goals but how it works and in what situations it has weaknesses are things you need to know if you are going to discuss it's merits.

Can somebody tell me the formula which calculates xG? I'm particularly interested in the variables contributing to the "quality of chance" and how they are modelled? If you can't answer questions like this you can't say the stat is good because you're guessing.

You wouldn't get near the ball to try a lob even if you thought of it in the moment. It's more than just the execution of the finish which matters. Barnes might still edge it though.

Thought every touch he did have showed the right intent and good execution. Strong in the tackle, good awareness, good passing. Very small sample size but he did what he could and impressed me.
