It’s not just about the time wasted, it’s about ruining momentum, I hate it when commentators say “The ref will only add it back on anyway…” firstly because they inevitably don’t add it sufficiently or at all and secondly if they do it doesn’t compensate for all the breaks in momentum, whenever you look like you’re building up a head of steam that’s the point at which they do it, you might get a 54 minute 2nd half but it’s sliced up into so many minuscule phases of play you can’t get any rhythm or capitalise on any exhaustion and force errors. If say a minute or so after the Leeds equaliser one of our players goes down with a mysterious head injury that requires 3 minutes of physio we probably ride the storm and that 2nd and 3rd goal don’t come. At that moment Leeds built a huge head of steam and we started making sloppy clearances and buckled under the relentless pressure. If we’d ensured there was very little ball in play in those minutes we catch a breath, sort our heads out and probably recover. The classic example was Arsenal at home last season. It was bizarre as such was the gulf in class we could have played all day and not scored yet Arsenals pre programmed DNA of gamesmanship meant that any occasion on which we upped the tempo and put just a bit of pressure on would be followed by a player, mostly Xhaka just sitting down with their head in their hands forcing a stoppage to break any rhythm or momentum we had. I’m aware that what should be added is the time beyond the reasonable expectation of length for an incident eg a throw should take say 30 seconds, if it takes 90 you add the excess 60 not the whole 90 but still a second half today with substitutions, a ridiculously long goal celebration where the guy just ignored the ref and stayed in the corner and another then went back across the centre circle to further delay the re-start, plus the many lengthy goal kick and throw in set ups and he gives just 5 minutes. The Nelson booking within the 5 did take a long time but I don’t have a great deal of sympathy there, bookings are part of the game if you’re careless or rash enough to concede one. -

I’m going to call the assistants Linesmen again, not because I’m old but because there’s FA assisting going on. Are they linked with mics and earpieces at this level? They just don’t seem to be a “team” at this level, there’s a ref who got his license in a box of cornflakes and two guys who can’t keep up with play, don’t understand the concept of ricochet or possess a set of b***s big enough to let the ref know they’ve seen something. It’s making the refs look even more like strutting peacock jobsworths with posters of Mike Dean on their walls. -

Has Begovic taken his goal kick yet, I popped out for a pee, pie, pint and a movie and he was still adjusting his socks when I got back to my seat -
Is that the same Begovic who took 5 minutes to take every goal kick after Bournemouth went ahead against us only to be beaten by a late Mahrez free kick resulting in the legendary potty mouthed fazzyfox rant which laid it on thick that he was a cheating b*****d and the outcome is very humorous ?

No thought for his team mates, that was a very pig headed thing to do by Hogg

Yes Chair addressed the bench but will table an appeal so they can put the whole thing to bed, that's all the news so-far -
Out of contract I believe, who would have thought a year ago we'd be desperate for that day NOT to come

Hey Fati boom boom! -
Would be great if we could get what was originally mooted as Kingys 10 year testimonial sorted, the Title Winners squad vs current or others, whilst they're just about fit and sharp enough to enjoy it. End of season may be a problem with Euro's and players straight off on hols but would be great to say a proper farewell, it was great to have that chance with King, Pearson and James this season but with Albrighton probably on his last contract too the timing could be just right this time .

Yep, that makes sense why my Dad was more wary of me than usual. I remember it feeling different to the other end, that explains it.
-
Like others have said couldn't get tickets where we normally sat, instead had standing tickets in from of Main Stand between half way and the double decker (would that have been family enclosure, I know the other end was?). My dad was worried about me not seeing anything or getting knocked over so somehow we took along a plastic milk Crate to stand on - "What's this..... a potentially throwable trajectile with sharp edges. OK, so long as it's not a large Sandwich you're sneaking in". The combination of success (the goals) and jeapordy (their goals and our goalkeeping situation) made it what it was but it's strange on paper to think we won by three clear goals, maybe the "best form of defence is attack" motto was in force. I can safely say Youngy and Lynex showed better positional awareness than Danny Ward. I remember during the latest injury stoppage bravely stepping up and suggesting I went in goal when it seemed like everyone else was getting a go, don't know if the ref had a policy on the use of Milk Crates though? How different could it be to protecting the "hedge end" of our Lancaster Place "pitch", but without the tricky flower beds and curbs to navigate through, it's only Shrewsbury after all? Steward disagreed and wouldn't let me on so we'll never know.
-
Well I hear the Filbert guy is retiring but then again that role involves doing several laps of the whole pitch every match day so it may be beyond him. His idea of effort doesn't match the clubs, the minute you hand him a shirt you lower your standards and your expectations, I'm sure this system is better suited to him than last seasons but he didn't care enough to break a sweat for the cause, he lets people down.

Brendan Making The Headlines It Seems
fazzyfox replied to ElusiveEd's topic in General Football and Sport
He still owes me £50 (ticket money) for making the Brentford game his own little personal protest to the board instead of the football match it claimed to be on the ticket. Oh and then there's the £120 million or whatever he owes to the club for what those two dropped points cost them ultimately. -
Hope I’m not missing a Chelsea cry-in on Talk Sport
