The period between him getting injured and being subbed is where we seemed to lose that initial momentum and it became end to end for a while. Hindsight is great but it seemed like playing with ten men at times. Finished with the better front three, infinitely more effective and functional than the starting three. Braybrooke, Page, Joseph and briefly Alves showing they are ready and worthy of places.

You might be a physical unit, reasonable in the air and more mobile than some other (cough Vestergaard) CB’s but in this modern game you have to be comfortable with the ball at your feet, it’s going to happen, quite often, then factor in that it’s a Russel Martin team and he’s as useful as a chocolate tea pot. If I was Notts County I’d be heavily pressing our back 4 particularly Okoli who treats the ball like a hot potato, guaranteed at least one goal from an error, Souttar had those brain farts vs Northampton too. That’s right, there’s always what I call the “false start” to the season regardless of where you’re at but even more so in our extreme situation right now. Not all of these players will be here after the window closes and those who have arrived are at different stages of readiness possibly tactically as much as fitness wise, the selections will also still be looking at minutes in the bank for some. In short the line up won’t reflect the long term pecking order. I just hope that if the likes of Braybrooke, Joseph, Alves and Aluko get to play and impress that they get all the encouragement and reward they deserve with repeated selection rather than turning to those who have let us down so badly.

The more I see and hear about Burns and Watson the more I’m convinced they’ll be regular starters. Slight chance that they’ve not been Russ-ified enough yet (his conversion process into keep-ball bots) but other than that I’d expect them to start. i do really want to see Alves though, is it him or Chaplin as the AM / 10 (hopefully not Reid)? Think Skipp will be in but rather have Braybrooke with Page. If Joseph has the RB slot can we have Aluko at CB over Okoli who treats the ball like a hot potato. Would like to see McFarlane at LB but fear it will be gift giver Thomas, guaranteeing the opposition a goal a game. Hopefully Bristric is ready to start with Cullen giving a few options off the bench along with Alves or Chaplin and, if we must, Mavididi.
