I'd want to stay in a job that paid me millions even though I was the worst person ever to do it. Ruud was screwed by the board - same old story, yes we have money to spend then it doesn't materialise. They did it to Brendan and Enzo. Not having a window and coming in without his own team initially was a handicap. However, he was also utterly shit. It doesn't matter if he wanted to stay or not.

Yes to the second point, even given the first. I don't think it was wild fantasy to hope that he could come in, have a look at the squad he's got and motivate them to play to their strengths. The real questions are 1. Why did the board go with a manager whose most successful side leaked goals at a frightening rate in the Dutch league, and 2. How did he manage to suck all of the goals out of us, given that we were scoring under Cooper and his PSV team were so prolific?

I'm sure it's all perfectly kosher billionaire-with-shady-links stuff that we just wouldn't understand. Last time I worked for a company with an elusive Chinese director I enquired as to the role of the man who I only ever saw dressed in black Prada carrying large sums of cash to and from the office. I was told 'he brings something to the business that nobody else can' so I didn't feel the need to probe further.

We're only faced with the possibility of a deduction next season because even though our accounts were signed off on December 19th by the auditor and Whelan, we didn't submit to the league by the 31st December deadline. That was probably an attempt to delay the process and avoid a points penalty at a time when we were hovering above the relegation zone, pushing it into next season. Obviously that backfired and we were relegated anyway, with a points deduction now likely next year.

All I wanted from these last 2 games was a Vardy goal. Now that's taken care of, I really wouldn't mind if this last game shattered any argument that Ruud is the man moving forward and our fans made an unignorable spectacle of being royally pissed off with the squad, the board, the man in charge, the situation and the last 5 years.
