We do have a deep squad but there are certain players who we miss a lot when they're not playing ie KDH, Ndidi, Fatawu and Mavididi. Take them out and we lose so much flair, energy and dynamism. Even the second half change today that saw KDH shunted out to the wing and Mavididi withdrawn stunted us a lot.

Happy for us to both go up at Leeds' expense but Ipswich are really annoying at the minute. Need them to drop off and soon.

According to the official stats, Millwall had 11 shots, with 6 on target. Anyone else think that has to be wrong?

The Watford v Ipswich game was classic old school Championship fare. From watching that, I have no idea how Ipswich have won virtually game.

Anyone else listen to the NTT20 podcast? One of the presenters on there, George Elek, seems to have a real issue with us. He is falling over himself to praise Ipswich and Leeds but any positive comments about us always seem to be qualified or grudging. He also keeps saying Burnley last season were much better than us, even though we are many points ahead of where they were at the same stage of the season. It's been going on right from the start of the season, even during our run of 9 successive wins. Last week he even selected a win for Plymouth at the KP as one of his 3 betting tips for the weekend!

Hoping Nigeria bomb in the Afcon as we have nobody else in the squad who can offer anything like Wilf does in the role he's now playing.

I'm not excusing Rodgers at all but the level of investment at Villa and Newcastle is much greater than we made to target a top 4 place. For example, in 2020 our mid season signing to push us on was Wolves' 5th choice CB on loan. As for West Ham, in what way have they achieved anything remotely comparable to our achievements in recent years? If you are talking about them winning the Conference League, compare their run of fixtures in that competition to ours. Roma are on a different level to anyone they played.

With the points tally we had the same stage last season we'd have been 10 points clear of the drop zone this season.

Let's be honest, despite KDH still dividing opinion amongst fans, these are seriously impressive stats.
-
Absolutely. The difference without him in the team from the start at Hillsbrough demonstrates your point perfectly.

This lad is class; he's going right to the top with more experience.

Real acid test for Ipswich over the next 5 games: Boro A Watford A Their big derby at home to Norwich Leeds A Us at home

Stultifyingly boring first half, followed by a decent second half, during which we were clearly the superior team, even though we again didn't create that much. KDH and Ndidi showed how much we missed them starting at Hillsbrough, whilst Vesty was again majestic at the back. Vital win, especially given the chasing pack have all won. Need to get another winning run going now.

What Ipswich are doing is frankly unreal. We've seen teams come up from League One and do well in Championship in the past but nothing like this before. To come up and win 14 out of their first 19 is something else. At the risk of sounding like a Big 6 supporter in 2015/16, surely they can't keep this up?

0.2 xG and 0 shots on target. Dear oh dear.

Why did Sky have to fix the technical fault?!
-
I've had Sky for over 20 years and can't remember a scheduled live game not being shown due to a technical fault. Had to be us, didn't it?!

Enzo needs to be careful - the dangerous spiral

I can't help feeling that the rot set in against Sunderland, even though we scraped a win. They had a proper go at us and it clearly rattled us that a team was willing to press us so intensely high up the pitch. All of a sudden we lost our composure and confidence, as well as control of the game, and we became increasingly ragged, knocking the ball long far more often than in previous games. We've never been the same since in my view. Perhaps this is because other teams have started to follow Sunderland's lead, rather than trying to hang on for a point in a low block against us. But I also fear that Enzo has maybe become more cautious in his approach since that game. He's been more focused on control of games, it seems, leading to lots of sterile possession and a lack of creativity and goalscoring opportunities. I just hope it's not the equivalent of that Norwich game in Rodgers' first full season when they came to the KP and did a real job on us, even though they didn't win. We were never as fluent again after that. -
I was hoping I'd wake up this morning in a more philosophical mood about last night's debacle (there is no other way of describing it) but despite really trying I'm failing to manage it. It's not the result itself (weird stuff can happen in football), it was the exceptionally poor level of performance. I was only able to start watching from about 25 minutes but in the 70 or so minutes of play that I watched, we created virtually nothing in open play. The only 2 efforts on target I saw were a loopy header from Vardy that barely reached the keeper and the last minute chance for Vesty off a corner (which I suspect makes up a large proportion of our 0.8xG (!!!) against by far the worst team in the league. We now go into a very tough game with some very serious concerns surrounding us and 3 teams behind us who are closing in fast. Make no mistake, a lame defeat on Saturday, which seems likely given WBA's form and ours, and the alarm bells will really be ringing. The last good performance was Swansea away back on 21 October.

... for the second game running. -
The only bad thing about the decision to take off Akgun was that it didn't come until the 60th minute. His performance in CM tonight made me look back fondly on Junior Lewis.
-
By the way, aside from the performance being abysmal, why the hell is Cannon not getting a single minute of game time? If he doesn't play in a game like this when will he ever play?
-
Even if we'd held on it would have been the worst performance of the season. We didn't even control possession. Boring and dreadful.
-
Absolutely disgraceful performance.
-
I missed the first 25 minutes but since I've been watching we've been truly dire in general play. At least we're winning.
