Why do people keep going on about confidence? “Confidence” would imply that he has the propensity to not be absolutely woeful at the very basics of football, whereas we haven’t seen evidence to the contrary in the entire time he’s been here bar a handful of games. Rowett seems to have got some consistency out of him which is all you can ask for given the season he was having under Cifuentes. Still physically one of the weakest players I’ve ever seen and up until recently was never a long-term solution- but given where we’re heading as a club he might just be OK.

I don’t think the penalty miss is necessary the core issue here for most people, although it was a honking, potentially crucial moment. Penalties get missed. It was, however symptomatic of a wider issue in that this dude has been continuously unfathomably, almost comically bad at football in exchange for an eye-watering outlay for the football club in fees and wages.

He’s earning an absolute wedge and there’s absolutely no chance any other serious professional club would go near him - certainly not at the seniority of role he has here. You can understand why he hasn’t IMO.

One thing that really stood out for me - and Winter was being very careful with his words - is Aiyawatt's (and I'm paraphrasing here) lack of "intellectual rigour" in comparison to Vichai. We all know what he meant by this.
