so many unknowns could end up like libya could end up like Afghanistan could end up like Iran could end up like Iraq could end up as a proper Islamic democracy - how brilliant would that be! however, we are like to see outside influences vying to get their hands on its natural gas reserves and infighting with the many groups trying to get their hands on power. they need a leader who can be trusted by all those different interest groups. sadly, I’d say that it’s much more likely to go the way of Libya and Iraq than a democracy the world can look to as an example.

If we decided to curtail his loan and pay our debt in full out to June then I can’t see that palace wouldn’t try and get him another loan and to recall him once they’d got something sorted. If they can’t do that then they’ll just leave him with us because they have no interest in helping us unless there is a financial advantage to them.

Plus there are an array of groups that are fighting against the Syrian govt forces (and their various supporters) anyone wanting to look like a leader has to appeal to these groups - once installed they can more easily take things in a direction they choose.

Hezbollah’s military demise and Iran’s problems as a consequence has no doubt encouraged the current attacks (add in the obvious lack of USA govt interest with the handover). if Iran offer Assad huge military support to try and defeat the rebels and are successful then they will no doubt demand a price.

Or you keep the ball despite the press that tires out the opposition. My view of possession is that having it opens up the game for you later on if the opponent is chasing. We did it a fair bit under rodgers (not 22/23). If the opposition just sit off you and allow you to keep it then it’s pretty pointless
