Term has started calmly and well... relieved to have a quiet January. Sadly, an adult pupil of mine died on Christmas Day, so the funeral next Thursday will be a difficult day.

Much as I dislike tax evasion/dodgy avoidance, I hold the HMRC in contempt, purely because in the instance their systems cock something up, it is the poor bloody punter's legal duty to spot their error, and thus their liability if they fail to notice what the professional tax gatherer has stuffed up.

I suspect they've translated it straight from the word 'mezzo', which would be fairly standard in Italian, but as we're proving, doesn't have a direct equivalent here.
