My Ipswich supporting mate isn’t looking forward to this game as they leave too much space at the back when attacking. They finish their chances unlike a lot of teams in this division so hopefully we don’t give them chances on a plate.
-
He’s started to add the turn to his game now which has taken away his back pass and killing an attack.
-
I would guess Everton needed some funds and they are always in too much of a battle to risk a known unknown.
-
Not from me as they played attacking football.
-
I think it’s fair to comment on a player based on what we see rather than giving him a pass because he might be alright in the future.
-
Day off cancelled by Enzo for that long ball attack. Pleased for Daka to score.
-
Can’t wait for Daka to drop all the way back and make his usual stupid tackle in a dangerous area. Come on FC Backpass.
-
I think because Enzo doesn’t want the wingers to be wingers. Why have one dribble when 15 passes can cover the same distance. It’s obvious the way they have to restrain themselves from attacking. The crowd were getting vocal when Mavadidi kept turning back on himself. In the second half when we were 1 up, Fatawu kept turning around and passing backwards even though he was in a great position to push for a second. The commentator (Elliot?) was highlighting the negative play and saying Enzo was clapping when he sent it back 30 yards. I would love to see them both running in space at back tracking defenders but I’m not expecting it in games anymore. The points speak for the hard work of the manager and the team but I would love to see them insert some urgency to kill games off. The last two games have highlighted this.

I can’t stand watching Justin wave for the ball to send it straight back. When he does pass forwards, Mavadidi has to hold the ball up and Justin stands there gormless waiting for his chance ti pass backwards. I understand the concept of Enzo ball, drawing players out of position to find space etc. When we have a counter on and half the opposition are out of position, they stand and let them run back to then pass 10 times before Ricardo more than likely gives it away when their forward presses him.
-
Mavadidi gets no support from overlapping runs, Justin stands still and then just sends it backwards. Mcateer starts to run then stops and turns around
-
Has Justin been banned from carrying the ball forward to the goal? Goes on a run up the pitch has the beat of the man, turns around and sends it back so we can have 19 passes between the defence.
-
Since he’s came back from injury he has been trying to over play when in dangerous positions and gives the ball away easily. I like when he runs with the ball at defenders.
-
Hopefully Nacho’s first touch isn’t pinball bumper mode. I liked KDH on the right as he was attempting to thread balls through quicker where he holds onto the ball too long at times on the left because he won’t use his right foot.
-
I agree, but this can only happen if the ball is passed forward into those spaces quickly, this I can’t see happening anytime soon.
-
That would require Justin making a forward pass overlapping. I would love to see him running at defenders onto a chipped ball rather than him getting the ball at the half way line with back to goal.

The style of play was summed up last night when we had a throw in at the corner flag, within two passes it was back with Mads. We then passed it around and lost it in our half. In contrast Wednesday had one in the corner and went for a long throw in the box. I can’t see any useful skill set from Casedi. Several times outside the box he would auto back pass instead of attempt to thread the ball to Mavadidi who had gone into the box. Justin is the most boring player we have, I can’t stand to see him wave for the ball, ignore Mavadidi and pass back Vestergaard.
-
Another milquetoast performance. Useless midfield in the first half, Ricardo ignores free players to play 15 passes under pressure with Winks till he loses it. Another boring pass back performance from Justin. The wingers are useless again as they receive the ball at the half way line with their backs to goal.

Watford (H) 25 Nov - Post-Match Thread

The possession based is fine up until a point, that point is usually after 20 passes when it comes to Nacho, James or Hamza who just stink out the play and send it back to Vesty. James only seems to come to life after 75 mins. Hamza is not suited to anything other than tackling and I like his aggression. More times than not he will pass backwards and only seems to know what he wants to do after taking a touch too long, where Winks would’ve already passed and moved. It’s not Hamzas fault that he’s expected to do something he’s not got the skill set for. I like McAteer but I’ve noticed that he’s been overplaying the ball in dangerous areas. He’s started to try and play out too much when being pressed, much like Madders starting doing last season where he would twist and turn back towards our goal and then lose the ball. Getting our wingers attacking with a running start rather than receiving with backs to goal would be more entertaining and positive to see. The main thing is promotion but the crowd need to see something to fire them up and provide atmosphere to lift the team. -
I think the criticism is valid because as you have noted there is acres of space to run into, the players are doing the opposite as default at most opportunities.
-
Pass back heavy first 11.
-
They could try to get the ball to the wingers quicker for them to run at back tracking defenders. By the time they get the ball they are on the halfway line with their backs to goal in a standing position. They shouldn’t need a plan b though if they start to take chances which we know they should be finishing.
-
He’s suddenly not going to have a right foot or be able to control the ball first time. If the manager wants to only play this style then no point having Nacho in. 25 precision passes for Nacho to break down play or lose the ball with his first touch. The same when KDH gets the ball, surges forward only to hold on to the ball for too long and then pass slightly behind Mavadidi or ignore him unmarked. Then other games both players will thread amazing passes and score a screamer. No consistency in their abilities.
-
He is playing just as he did under Rodgers. Adds very little to the team going forwards or in defence. The first 75 mins more times that not he gets the ball turns to Mavadidi who has started to run, ignores it and passes back to Vesty. Then gives Stephy an apology wave.
-
He did one in the first half too where the pass to Stephy was the easy choice
-
A quick forward pass would be nice.
