  1. There are too many of our fans who are quick to turn on any of our players, and it's not always a reflection of how they're performing on the pitch either. I keep posting we need to trust our youth, especially as we seem to have a fair number of players capable of staking a claim in the first team if given the chance. While I'm hopefully of higher than mid table and will be cross if we're not pushing promotion at end of the season, (I know you didn't say you'd be happy with mid table and get your point though), I won't be happy if we gain promotion without a foundation and plan to keep us up next season, and trusting youth will go some way to achieving this (a lot more than trusting the players who showed they weren't good enough for the Premier league last season). We need to be careful we don't rush them in and set them up to fail, but there is no reason why, using common sense, not too long into the season players like Monga aren't showing their long term potential and playing a big part in our push for promotion. And as fans we need to accept the lows with the highs that will follow. I look at players like Thomas and think ... have we managed him badly? There is a fine line between giving players the experience they need to grow as professionals, and protect them from the toxicity of fans when things go bad. But as pointed out, they cost us very little compared to a player we sign who could equally be rubbish (especially given our scouting of late). And this league will be more forgiving than the Premier League so let's give the youth a chance, and save our money (not suggesting we don't make any signings), and not have to look over our shoulders worrying about PSR because we've spent too much on players with no sell on value and on too big wages to shift when it turns out they aren't all that after all.
  2. Surely that loses us one half decent players, leaves us with the useless ones we can't shift, and trusts our recruitment with a tiny bit of cash ... which hasn't exactly gone well for the most part in the last few seasons...
  3. I think for the amount we spent you'd hope he'd be an instant starter, possibly even main focus in our midfield, but he's spent more time not starting for us than he has being in the first eleven. He's not bossing it. He doesn't seem like he's busting a gut to justify his fee when he's on the pitch. May not be his fault we paid over the odds, but he has to take some responsibility for his performances since arriving.
  4. Not going to argue that just retaining him will be enough, but how weak will we look if he goes and we don't find someone at least as good to replace him? Alves doesn't need the pressure of being thrust into the position if we sell and don't replace. I'm all for us playing the young players a lot this season, but without putting so much pressure on them that it stunts their development.
  5. Lol. My response was longer and delayed by having to entertain my kids, but we both seem to have made similar points and now it looks like I either copied you or didn't bother to read what you wrote.
  6. Why I'm desperate for us to keep hold of Bilal. While I agree we're potentially weaker in some areas, losing players since last time like KDH, potentially some key players like Mads (and arguably N'didi) before the season starts, and we've a huge vardy shaped hole up front that begs the question where will the goals come from, we are also arguably better off in other areas. If they stay fit, Fatawu and Mavididi should both be getting better and better, and time will tell how good our new manager is. We've also got a lot of hungry new talent coming through which I hope will get their chance to shine this season. But back to my first point I feel players like Bilial are vital to us doing well this season. As for Skipp ... let's hope the manager knows how to play to his strengths because I don't understand what he's done so far to justify the 25 M we wasted on him ....
  7. You'd hope with the youngsters coming through and the potential they look to have, especially those like Nelson and Alves who've seemingly been on the fringe for a while now, that even our recruitment / scouts /background staff/ owners can't mess up the model too much. Hope Cifuentes's reputation of trusting youth means we're not going to spend over the odds (and pay big wages) for other team's rot that are the wrong side of 28, and we'll never manage to shift. We want young, hungry players with large sell on profits in the future.
  8. Not spotted any pictures of him camped at an airport departure lounge yet ... (admittedly it's not that close to the deadline day), but since it seems like any talk of release clauses is nonsense I'd not sell unless we were offered stupid money, or was really being disruptive. He looks to have that quality about him that will elevate us in this league above most, and promotion is worth way more than any transfer fee. He's the type of player we should be building the squad around. I'm really hoping we trust youth and potential more than the older heads we have, (I know it's a good idea to have a mix), but I feel like we've got an opportunity in this league where we can risk younger players playing a larger role at this stage of their career, than we might be able to in the Premier League. And that might be our silver lining, especially if we can then keep this younger team and survive the drop after promotion, and build up a good model again from there, (selling one big asset but investing wisely) (assuming the best this season).
  9. For most people or for us to get sorted?
  10. Business as usual then?
  11. I think it's about time I put my own name forward. I can play OAPs over our exciting youngsters, play a system that's clearly not working, make our defenders look worse than they are, complain about lack of transfer funds, but expensive midfielders for inflated prices and never use them, fall out with certain players and never play them even when they're clearly better than the ones I choose to play, and sign a long contract that will cost the club when they want to get rid of me. Oh and I know how to do a half decent PowerPoint presentation.
  12. And maybe other teams have seen them play ....
  13. RVN had ideas? I'm sorry but he looked pretty clueless to me.
  14. The board have a clear idea of the type of manager they want to come in. Any f*£ker who'll come!
  15. Please don't even joke. This will give me nightmares..
  16. Exactly. We've got months .....
  17. We're going to end up with someone really awful aren't we? When we could have got Rohl. But we're creating the same restrictions on ourselves that meant we discounted better choices in favour of Cooper last year.
  18. According to the next manager thread he's just said no ... so ... Good ol' reliable Rob
  19. Appoint Doris the dinnerlady and be done with it, or isn't she interested in the job either?
  20. I think you'll find a large proportion of this forum didn't want him in the first place and were confused why we didn't just pay some compensation for Corberan. If PSR was that much of an issue it doesn't explain the 25M spent on Skipp... It's probably the same people on this forum wondering why we don't just pay for Rohl. But it seems our board hasn't learned any lessons over the last 12 months and we'll just go for the cheap option and underperform once again.⅕
  21. Hope not to be honest. Don't understand what the issue is with us just paying the damn compensation for Rohl
  22. Am I the only one confused by reports saying Top is losing patience? Obviously the first thing is that we take so bloody long to do anything I can't believe anything other than Top having endless patience. If not, Rudkin should have gone long ago. But secondly, and more importantly, surely any compensation is agreed in Rohl's contract. It would be impossible for Wednesday's owner to move the goal posts if we pay the compensation, and if we're really going to discount our preferred choice because of a few quid in compensation, and appoint an interior manager as a result instead, then we truly have learned nothing over the last 12 months.
  23. Mostly agree with that but I am not completely opposed to the idea of Wilder if we can't get Rohl, Powell or Hassenhuttl. Not keen on the likes of Carrick, Dyche or even O'Neil etc.
  24. Why give young hungry players with something to prove and on low wages a chance, when we can stick with players who earn more than they're worth and couldn't give a toss? Talk sense Ric.
  25. Did it? Wait did yours too?
