There was some figures released some years ago that showed 'economic inactivity' amongst ethnic communities - especially Pakistani - was higher in the country generally. I worked for the city council for many years and my role during the last few years, was to enable and encourage inclusion, including employment, for folk in many of the areas indicated on that map. I guess myself and my colleagues may have failed. However, many Asian and African families brought over elderly parents and other family members from areas such as Somalia, who's working days were well beyond them. Also, many others were 'coy' about any work they were actually doing, especially as they were claiming several benefits too. Therefore, it is possible they were less than honest on the census form and so the true results are distorted. This was also apparent in other areas of the city too of course, but were definitely moreso in the areas the map indicates.

Sorry to see it close for the reasons you mentioned. The shop has always been there for as long as I can remember and seemed a cosy reminder of the past. I started a thread some years ago about the shop and I recall a poster adding that the owner occasionally popped into their store on the High St, he would sometimes say he had only taken a pound all week! Perhaps surprising he kept it going as long as he did.

Would that be the station on Belgrave Road, around where B&M is now?

Just discovered that my GP surgery has me down as an 'Ex Smoker'. I have asked them to correct this as I have never smoked in my life. I'm informed they cannot change it! All they could do is, I'm told, is add a note elsewhere on my records stating that it is incorrect.

If defending a one goal lead going into the last 10 minutes, I would rather see us launching the ball into row z than trying to pass our way out of defence or trying to be clever with back heels and so on.

When I attended Charles Keene College, we used to go to a lunchtime strip show there. After one 'show', I was chatting to my mates when there was a tap on my shoulder. A lady said excuse me. I turned to see it was the stripper, still starkers though carrying her discarded costume. Poor thing had to push through us to get changed in the ladies loo.

Well, if any complacency was creeping in with the players and fans, then that should put to bed any more casualness between now and the end of the season no matter who we play.

It does look congested but access one of those tracking websites and zoom in and suddenly there appears loads of space. Sure, around airports it increases dramatically, but aircraft colliding whilst in flight is incredibly rare, even more so these days. You know what they say; you are far more likely to be involved in an accident travelling to catch your flight.

I take your point and perhaps I've watched too much Yes, Minster, but these thing have and will continue to happen, where institutions use their influence and other 'means' to get what they want. I would include esteemed learning institutions in that.
