  1. The Blue Ghost landing footage is simply stunning.
  2. SpaceX is preparing to launch the eighth flight of Starship today, with the goal of completing the objectives set out during Flight 7 when Ship 33 was lost due to an aft fire during its post-staging burn. Flight 8 will attempt the third successful booster catch, while Ship 34 will once more splashdown in the Indian Ocean. It's scheduled to launch at 6:30 p.m. EST which is half-past eleven here in the UK.
  3. In fairness, Ranieri was instrumental in this signing and the main impetus behind it.
  4. It's actually a very well known fact. He's been doing it for over two decades.
  5. Completely. She was a trailblazer that challenged orthodoxy, forged new frontiers and opened up a wealth of opportunity and ,recognition for women in science. She was, the first woman to receive a doctor of science degree in France and additionally she became the first woman to lecture at the Sorbonne. She was not only the first woman to win Nobel Prize but as you say, two of them., and the first Nobel Laureate whose child also won a Nobel Prize.
  6. Plus running it gently is the most effective and quickest way to accomplish it. About 30 seconds of idling is the recommended practice. As mentioned though, cold open loop startup on my previous bike was practically unrideable for the first five minutes.
  7. Front row, third from the left, a 60 year old Marie Curie.
  8. Some may have noticed that practically every f****g post I make has to be subsequently edited (for typos). It's infuriating. I'm similarly inept at texting. EDIT: For typos.
  9. Warming it up. Inconsiderate? yes, wilful? - unlikely. Some motorcycles can be very finicky when the engine is cold. Plus, the oil is thicker and doesn't lubricate the internal components as effectively, which can lead to increased wear and tear on the engine parts if you pull off immediately. Warming up allows the oil to reach its optimal operating temperature and viscosity to allow proper lubrication throughout the engine. I'd have polite words. My previous motorcycle, prior to purchasing a bench ECU tune for £480 was practically unridable on the initial open loop ignition due to an appalling stock fuelling to meet Euro 5 regulations. Nonetheless, I wouldn't have dreamt of starting it up and running it in my close for the five minutes that it required to behave, given that when on campus, I leave for work at 6.00am. Largely because the straight through exhaust registered 110dB at idle, I used to have to push it out of the vicinity before I fired it up... This one's far more genteel in comparison. (It's still rasping though).
  10. I fully concede that I am biased in terms of Joe Heyes, (I've known his Dad since I was five), but the lad has an innate ability to read play and reposition. Clearly the pivotal points today were Fin Smith's superb long range penalty kick and Russell's missed conversion, but Borthwick appreciates the fresh muscle and impact that Joe offers as a replacement and I think that has been a key part of these last two marginal victories. When you look at the the phase that resulted in Daly's try in the last few seconds versus France, Joe was massive in the rolling maul that initiated it. Understandably he's going to be playing second fiddle to Will Stuart for a while, but I what a talent to have in reserve. There are similarly a lot of promising upcoming club players being nurtured and developed at Pennyhill Park - it augers well.
  11. Yes. Residency - five consecutive years I thought, not three. Also you must have registration with a rugby national body or club, for the same period.
  12. Saw him last week walking the dog. He likes being reminded of it.
  13. Scot;and's handling is impeccable. The speed that they move the ball out to the wide channels is a complete nightmare for England's defence....again!
  14. White runs in yet another try against England. Sensational play,
  15. You have to laugh at one of Lineker's recollections involving a midweek reserve game. He stormed into the changing room at half time picked him up by the scruff of the neck and pinned him against the wall snarling, "you lazy, wee English s*****." And that was at 2-1 up having scored both the goals!
  16. If your name is Vladimir Putin, basically, Russia must be allowed to keep all the land it occupies, in addition to Ukraine ceding all of the provinces that the Kremlin lays claim to but does not currently control. Ukraine must officially end its plans to join NATO.
  17. And talking of which, the other renowned far right (ex) presidential freak (although there are depressingly many to choose from), Jair Bolsonaro is facing charges for an alleged coup plot and incitement amongst his supporters to riot in order to seize back power in Brazil after losing the election. I wonder where on Earth he got that idea from?

  19. I brought this precise point up in early in the Ukraine thread but more in terms of the vulnerability of the Baltic States if it was well defended by Russian forces. However, When Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine three years ago, it sent shockwaves through neighbouring countries. The biggest war on the European continent since the end of the Second World War caused a complete re-evaluation of previous assumptions and strategies - particularly in Scandinavia and Sweden and Finland joining as member nations which was a massive own goal for the Kremlin. The accession of Finland to NATO also doubled the length of the alliance’s border with Russia. This has in the Kremlin’s own words forced Russia to take counter-measures to ensure its own security, tactically and strategically. I would suggest that increased exposure to a NATO member reduces the chances of any Russian attack on other NATO members bordering the Suwałki Gap which although sandwiched by Belarus and Kaliningrad, has nonetheless now lost its tactical significance.
  20. Russia is not going to "attack Poland next year".

    Whisky

Perfect way to round off a Sunday out in the fields with the dog. Decent stout followed by a Laphroaig 10...
  22. I know not everyone agrees with his contributions to this forum but this thread title is a tad harsh.
  23. What astonishes me is not only the fact that people bought the replica shirt but even inadvertently endorsing and displaying this shit by wearing it is reprehensible.
