Interesting. I'm currently into "Russia against Napoleon" by Dominic Lieven, and so far I've found it fascinating. At that time nearly all transport was horse-driven, and Russia was the major power in that field. It meant their cavalry units were second to none. Their infantry were rarely top-class (mainly because of a shortage of experienced officers) but they compensated by being brave beyond belief. In fact a major failing was Russian lines going straight into attack (and getting slaughtered) when they needed to hold fast or even withdraw. A lot of logistics and artillery staff came from other countries (mainly Prussia) and that led sometimes to tension. And the Poles were treated particularly badly - at that time they were not even permitted their own country. When prisoners were taken the French (sometimes) were treated fairly but Poles were killed without hesitation. Oh, and although Britain was seen as a necessary ally against Napoleon, we were also distrusted because we could expand our empire overseas with our naval power, whereas Russia (and others) were limited in their empire expansion plans.

tbf, thinking about it, there are various options not too distant from Oxford Circus. In one direction you've got Soho and then Charing Cross/Covent Garden; in the other direction there are some decent pubs just north of Bond Street station. Or even explore pubs on/off Great Portland Street. Just that Oxford Street itself is a bit of a desert unless you're into gift shops and department stores.

Not really many good choices around Oxford Circus, and they're pricey. A nice 10 or 15 minutes walk to the Stag's Head though (Leicester pub), just head up Great Portland Street until you reach New Cavendish Street. Euston is only a few minutes walk from St Pancras, and loads of good pubs around there, plus convenient for travelling to and back.

We're obviously a high value target market...

Hard to see how the season so far could have been much better. Many of us (well, the odd one of us who still admit it) thought we'd have a rough start to things. We'd been relegated, forced to sell or release many first team players, and had to cope with a second management change. But Enzo seems to have sorted the playing side out, we've made several good signings (an achievement in itself after recent seasons) and the team spirit is back. I'm still pinching myself, I honestly didn't expect such a good start.

I prefer it to the beige jacket and cloth cap look many blokes over 60 revert to. Why do they do that?

He's done great so far, but let's see how he copes with a poor spell before going overboard... That said, it's hard to see who could have done better. I agree that getting promotion is one thing, but our defence will need a lot of attention in the PL. At least we've got good options in goal now.

The poster above who compared him to YT may be onto something.

There are times I feel sorry for his plight, and remember how BR drove him into the ground by overplaying him. But then I remember he's probably earning 70k a week, many of us will never earn that in a year.
