Having cost around £10million, the former England international became a favourite under Enzo Maresca with his passing ability complementing the Italian's style of play (he completed 94% of his passes). He struggled in the Premier League before a fall-out with Ruud van Nistelrooy over his commute from near London saw miss the final eight games of the season. Winks came back into the side under Marti Cifuentes last season before another spell of absence over Christmas. Andy King brought him back at the end of January and he went on to play in the remaining 16 games. However, his demeanour came under further scrutiny when he was videoed in an altercation with one City fan after the Portsmouth defeat in April. At Swansea City, Flynn Downes and Matt Grimes were two passing machines and his Southampton side used Will Smallbone and Shea Charles in the middle. In the current Leicester team, there isn't another player with the passing range like Winks. When City were the best team in the Championship three seasons ago, Winks was levels above the players he came up against. In League One, he would have a field day. But the big red flag is the antics off the pitch. The dispute with Van Nistelrooy, the infamous 'ENZO I MISS U' sign incident in Copenhagen on the same night Steve Cooper was sacked, walking straight down the tunnel after a defeat to Preston in August and fall-out after the 3-2 loss to Sheffield United have all boiled the blood of fans and rightly so. The incident at Fratton Park was the tipping point. The angry confrontation saw Winks argue with spectators, with expletives used, as a member of the club's security team encouraged him to get onto the bus. Just before the incident, Winks was involved in a small disagreement with a Leicester fan. Any doubts that spectators were willing to welcome Winks after the incident were squashed three days later. The midfielder was named on the bench for the draw against Hull City and had his name booed when the line-up was announced around the King Power Stadium. Article continues below During his warm-up at half-time, Winks was booed on every touch and when he was introduced in the 61st minute, more followed. Gary Rowett went on to start him against Millwall and Blackburn Rovers as the season ended. If many had their own way, Winks will be gone this summer and his sale would be a welcomed one in the much-needed reset. There is a chance that Martin will be aware of the issues inside the squad already having previously publicly criticised player attitude in previous jobs. In his first interview, the former Scotland international was clear on being clear on the "expectations" expected and "culture at the training ground". But he also seemed to leave the door open to players having a clean slate. "If we can get the energy going in the right place and shift the energy from where it's been, which I'm convinced we will, then we have a chance to achieve something brilliant," he said. "That's why we're all here and I hope I can just put my spin on that and our spin on that quickly over the next few weeks. It's really important to approach it with a fresh energy. It's gone, whatever's happened in the last couple of years." At this point of the summer transfer window, City have a decision to make. Winks could be a crucial player in League One, no-one is doubting that, but they have to look at getting him a new club. There's an argument that too much has happened for him to be involved. There's a big emphasis on the reset button being pressed this year so keeping one of the players that has very little support externally instantly maintains that negativity for the new season. One of the easiest methods that City can use to get easy wins with supporters and showcase they are gutting the squad that has suffered two straight relegations is by selling Winks. He may be a useful tool for Martin, but the new City boss won't get very far with issues inside his team. We did have managers that tried passing or anything really. I don't know what we had.

Not really last time we had a passing focussed manager we won the championship. The time before that we won the fa cup.

They're not hydration breaks they're ad breaks. The game is artificially stopped for them which is the issue. A team could be gaining momentum then there's an artificial break in play for advertising. It's pure BS. There's plenty of natural breaks in play for players to grab a drink if they can't last 45 minutes.
