Even with 1yr left on his deal they may prefer to lose him on a free in 2022 because he could be worth more to them if he helps them stay up vs. The fee they would get for a man with less than a year left on his deal.

We will go for him next summer surely? He only has 1yr9mo left on his deal right now, he will leave for free at end of next season. Looks like we are getting Fofana if we have pulled out of this though. Can live with Soyuncu, Evans, Fofana, Amartey and Fuchs/Morgan in a crisis

I’d imagine the terms on those add ons mean that if we pay them the guy has succeeded as we think he can, and if that has happened, he will likely be worth Maguire money or more.
