Summer 2022 priorities (and realistic options)
JimJams replied to Allenho11's topic in Transfer Talk
I don’t think having a CB up front will work, even if he’s playing central. Maybe the last throw if the dice with Vestegaard! On a serious note RW is the only position which we need a clear improvement for our first 11. A cb pairing of Fofana and Evans doesn’t need urgent improvement. That’s why I say after that we go like for like. If we sell Soy, get in a cb, if we sell Dan, get in a cb. If we sell Vestegaard, get in another member of the Addams family. -
What does success look like next season

Top 4 should be the aim. Man City and Liverpool are a step above, the rest could go any way. Chelsea could be in disarray with their situation, Ten Hag could be a disaster, Arsenal and Spurs will have European football to contend with. There’s possibilities there. Of course it could go the other way entirely and all of those get drastically stronger, but the aim should be the top 4, and we adjust expectation as the season goes on. Or 17th and a trophy. -
Well will yoou sign for us as well then?

Put the entire budget onto an RW. If there's anything left use it to make Lookman permanent if possible. After that it's s one out one in basis. If we're keeping a hold of players that aren't the standard then Rodgers needs to do that thing called coaching. They should generally play less frequently anyway. -
Bit of negativity about Lookman on the right and how it won’t work with Barnes on the left. How did our equaliser last week come about again?

So what you’re saying is, sign Brennan Johnson and sweeten the deal with a loaning of whichever yoot we’ve signed. -
Let’s hope not. Especially at 120k a week.

Rumour mill says they’re not interested anymore, targets set higher.

What are the odds on a move for Joe Gomez? Aside from the obvious that Rodgers bought him, he’s still only 24, seems to have gotten over his injury problems, and probably would like to play more. And obviously I imagine he’s a lifelong fan of us, naturally! 2 years left on his contract, Liverpool likely to move him on? His opportunities are as 2nd choice RB now rather than CB. Mind you, he’s on 75k a week so maybe not. -
Similar to Willocks loan to Newcastle at the same time.

Gonna be interesting when we get Bielsa in…

And in the case of Fofana thats a bit of a "so what?" Isn't it? I'd be quite happy with everyone charging a large amount and getting a sell on if they're as promising as Fofana. We'd still profit and that's better than not getting them. -
Do we normally do that then?

We could do Arsenal a favour with either of 2 positions in Pepe but preferably giving Saliba an opportunity. Work out a loan to buy option where they can get a decent fee which we obviously only need to take up if we think he's worth it. So maybe 20ish for Saliba. Or 25ish for Pepe if we went with him. Personally would prefer Saliba. And given Arteta doesn't want him at all, could drive the price down further. Suppose it depends what Marseille would be willing to pay. -
Until he sees what Newcastle will pay! Really we’d need to be making him the priority and letting him know that whilst hoping the others, Newcastle especially, make him just feel like another option they’re perusing.

You need buyers, that’s the issue. Hopefully a promoted team takes a punt on some of the fringe players and we get decent offers for some of the better ones, I’d sell Kel if a good offer came in but more than happy keeping him. Kasper is going nowhere and it’s a difficult position to fill. Hopefully Iversen is the answer to that one when it needs addressing. -
Or if his right was for anything more than standing on. Thought he’d turned a corner with that when he bagged his hat trick but seemingly just used up his right foot quota. Mind you if he had 2 feet he’d probably have stayed in Manchester.
