I may get accused of contradicting myself but I am not saying for a minute that I was any of the following: 1 - Hermansen to leave 2 - Iverson to be number 1 3- Not to sign a new number 1 if Mads left I am simply saying I think Iverson gets the boot stuck in unfairly due to his ability with his feet and I do think he is a good shot stopper. If circumstances meant that he did end up in goal, I don’t think he’d cause us to get relegated (in terms of shot stopping).
-
Depends if we intend to play out from the back a lot. In terms of shot stopping, Iverson would definitely be good enough for a side battling relegation which is what we are.

Premier League 24/25 Pre-season guff (misc talking points)

Haha I was expecting a play out from the back cock up but yeah, how many times did we see no defensive shape on the right of the defence, Millwall and Plymouth come to mind. -
Last line is spot on. Case in point is Kristiansen who has been written off by many despite being a teenager moving countries into the mess he did and only playing a handful of games. Thomas I have been very supportive off previously. However, it feels that he would have benefited from dropping down to the Championship (with us) but due to the manager not wanting to play full backs, Luke was a victim of this and the loans went badly. I’m not sure how he’d do coming back to the level we are back at. As much as I’d like him to do well. Soumare it would have been interesting to keep around last season as he may have also got some confidence back but presumably it was financial reasons he went out on loan.

I don’t think Chelsea would but have stopped trying to presume what Chelsea will and won’t do especially with these PSR transfers. That Omari Kellyman for example. Re Stol, sounds like he had a bad game. It happens. All keepers who play out from the back will have them. Mads had some shockers across the season, the biggest being against Birmingham as well but in the league. I think Stol needs a season being first choice and playing but probably too risk to throw him in at Premier League level.
-
I don’t recall this at all. Also he only played a handful of games so loads of trouble seems a stretch. What games did he make errors in?
-
I’m sure it would be affordable based on the amortised stuff over the contract. And I’m sure he would come to us being Premier League and a step up from where he is now. The question is whether there are more attractive options in the PL and more pay on offer. The fact that he would be a key player here could help.
-
Would be an excellent KDH replacement. As others have said over the length of a contract. Current contract to 2027 though. Might be a bad call from him to commit to the Scottish league for that long!

Nice to know Chilwell mentored the lad before he left! Brunt admitted that he thought the Wrexham fanbase was ‘hostile’, but is now glad to be n their side rather than against them. “Playing here at Wrexham’s home ground was a little bit hostile but it’s going to be a nice feeling having them behind me instead of against me this season,” said Brunt.
-
What is surprising about this is that there are 49 centres backs signed in the premier league for more than that! Is that really true?
-
It is true this provides some reassurance in terms of timeframes. I just worry that whilst transfers will fall through all the time, our ‘14 seconds gate’ and the fact they had PSG publicly fuming at them for not submitting paperwork on time seem like extreme cases of incompetence that only probably less than 5% of clubs would do, basically very rare cases. So if you were to pick two clubs to put together for a transfer deal and think they could f*** it up, it’d be Leicester and Chelsea
-
Agreed. Impatient would be demanding signings coming in NOW! This is a fair question about the future of the club with points deductions etc and when you take record into account, there’s far more chance they failed to get it through than it going through on time. Also haven’t Chelsea been involved in messes like this? I feel there was a case about a yeah ago where was it PSG said Chelsea had pissed around and failed to do a deal before the deadline. In fact yeah it was, to do with Ziyech in 2023 https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/hakim-ziyech-loan-psg-chelsea-b2273507.html So between Chelsea and Leicester, hardly a recipe for likely success at meeting a deadline and doing paperwork in time!

Nothing to see here Newcastle in talks with selling Almiron to Saudi

True. Look at Maresca and Pearson in the respective promotion seasons. Both won 31 games out of 46 (both great achievements) so both have the same win percentage. But Pearson achieved 5 more points because Maresca lost about 25% of his games! If you can’t win a game, don’t lose it as the saying goes! (Of course try to win).

Sheff Utd did spend a bit as well though, bought some good players who were set to make the step up to the Prem such as Archer and Hamer. Of course they were a weak squad but more so than Luton? I don’t think so. The problem with Sheff Utd was they were beaten every week before taking the pitch. It was their mentality of being losers. There was a stat around February which I shared with a couple of Blades fans in my team at work (they were not appreciative) that they were the 4th highest goal scorers at Bramall Lane already in 2024 as teams like Villa, Arsenal and Brighton had already turned up and put 4/5 past them on a weekly basis and of course they conceded around 100 over the season come the end. Basically even without the most talented squad, as long as the fight and pride is there, you will pick up more points and be in the conversation longer (like Luton over Sheff Utd). This is where I think Cooper is a good shout as I expect him to instil this.
-
He doesn’t need to as long as Vards is fit for the trip to Selhurst 🦅

The poster seems to not recognise that in all walks of life, be it visitor attractions or events, prices are cheaper for younger ages. It’s not just a football thing. Unless they are referring to the number of different concession groups but it seems like they were suggesting anybody over 12 pay full price which is crazy.
-
Happy to stand corrected. Might have been a similar name. Apologies 👍
-
Are you actually kidding or for real? It’s about the sheer mismanagement off the pitch and contempt and treatment of the fans. Not a linear and basic measure purely based off what has happened on the pitch which appears to be all you are going off. Anyway, it’s a thread about our new manager who I’m completely behind (I’m sure I recall your username throwing tantrums about Cooper back when announced by the way) so let’s not derail it!
-
You make a good point that if people would have the principle to turn their backs on the likes of Leicester City and go to the counties non league clubs, it could see some rise up through the leagues and create some real stories there. Same in other cities/counties.
-
Why? I’m behind Cooper from when he was announced and the players. But Top has become a stain on the club and he’s done too much damage to get any credit from me.
-
It’s good to see the tide turn to be more positive over the past 24 hours or so. I understand why people were underwhelmed even if I didn’t agree with that viewpoint but it does seem people are starting to hear more about Cooper and realise that he can bring a lot of strengths to the role. To be fair, I don’t think it’s fair to expect him to keep us up. Top and co have done such a good job of f***ing everything up that if we go down it is on them and not Cooper and his squad. But if he does pull it off, it is 100% down to him and his squad and zero credit should be assigned to Top and co. Basically if it goes wrong it is on Top but if things go well it is nothing to do with him and I don't mind saying it.

Really cannot understand this attitude and it very much comes across as ‘I’m alright so stuff the rest of you’ or someone who has more money than you know what to do with. Firstly, what is ‘anticipated product’? This is not other entertainment businesses such as singers or comedians where you know what you are getting and pay for it. Sport and football particularly are unpredictable and yeah; you could be fortunate to witness a 4-3 thriller or more or it could be a drab 0-0. There is no fixed anticipated product and prices should be set accordingly. Also, football is something regular people have been able to do on a regular basis. It’s again, not like other entertainment business where it is something you may do infrequently. Again due to the unpredictable nature that you get something different every week. You may have been through your supporting life and had it good being in the over 65’s as you have indicated. This is a good look to blatantly be saying f*** future generations though. Edit, of course the points about agents and wages is correct. But as has been said, the prices of tickets doesn’t touch the surface at this level so this is not justification to fleece supporters.
-
As with the whole general sale stuff earlier last season, just further goes to show how much contempt Top has towards the fans. I used to be down every week as a kid (we are talking early 00’s here, Micky Adams time) and all through after that. Life then gets in the way and I stepped back but around the time the club took this new path let’s call it. Now I haven’t given the club a penny of my money for a number of years as I fundamentally disagree with every move they seem to make. I will never take my daughter down there either. As others have said, whilst there are so many people with no principles and happy to piss their money away of these prices, nothing will change. Of course it is physically impossible to want anything but success for the club, to win games and stay up and re-establish ourselves in the top flight. But to echo a couple of other posters, I have a morbid curiosity about if we were to go down again and stay down and end up in a position circa 2004-2008, what would happen?

Sounds like 10 years ago to me. The only rich 6 team we played in that final 9 game run was Chelsea. I think we lost 4-3 was it at Spurs immediately before that West Ham game but then it was the likes of West Ham, Southampton, Swansea, Sunderland, Newcastle (when they were awful), Burnley, West Brom and QPR. Literally played the bottom half of the league there! And sure enough, we had fallen behind maybe due to the balance of the fixtures.
