Must be something going on. The thing I was most looking forward to this season was Ben at the heart of the defence. I hate seeing Faes and Vestergaard throw away goals and points game after game but clearly Nelson is not fancied. Genuinely I don’t think we will see him again and he will be off in Jan.

Could do with dipping into the loan market again in January. Maybe some PL talent needing minutes. -
Nelson seems like an alternative to Vestergaard rather than Faes so nothing is likely to change re his position.

Do we think a couple of appearances off the bench whilst not having match fitness is enough to write any player off? I guess so. -
How many goals and points are these two clowns going to be allowed to cost us! But no, can’t play Nelson because he had a bad 45 against Huddersfield
-
From the last two games alone; Faes falling on his arse as the West Brom forward walked through out defence. Vestergaard stuck up near the halfway line in the same move as the goal went in Faes completely missing a header and looking a mug. Fortunately high enough up the pitch it didn’t cost us. Faes trying to run through the Wrexham team, losing control, falling over and getting booked wiping out the Wrexham player. Wout special that. Vestegaard with the most embarrassing attempt to shield the ball, directly leading to the Wrexham equaliser. Absolute myth that they are good at this level even. People who think so either don’t watch with their eyes or are rigidly stick two years ago when they were…ok, and we managed to win the league due to goals from Vardy, KDH, Fatawu and Mavididi and despite the defence that was average/midtable at best. As you say, we are sacrificing both short and long term. Staggering incompetence.

Forest fans talking about new managers and Dyche, Cooper and G O’Neil all getting mentioned

It’s just really grates that people continue to bring up Huddersfield yet I can’t recall actually list a rap sheet as long as that from the last two games alone and Faes and Vestergaard are defended by so many! I can’t see international duty making a difference given we don’t play during it. It looks less likely we will get promoted this season but if we did, and even if Ben did sign a new deal, his lack of involvement is the difference between a confident player having a full season at this level and being able to step up and not. All that happens if we go up is that we have to just loan him out to the Championship again as he won’t be ready for PL. If we don’t go up, it’s more likely he gets a better offer anyway.

I just can’t wait to see the back of both of them. This is just from the last two games; Faes falling on his arse as the West Brom forward walked through out defence. Put like that, it’s a joke people continue to highlight the one half Nelson was poor against Huddersfield which I can’t recall actually leading to a goal (might be wrong).

I do think his progression and upwards movement has been pretty typical until this season but now we find ourselves in a pretty odd situation. Its bizarre as he probably starts for all other 23 sides in this league and yet some of those sides are better than us. Its likely he is a victim of the club deteriorating faster than the deadwood can be moved (didn’t help ourselves by actually keeping Vestergaard by choice when we had the chance to so bye). I’m still doubtful he will be patient enough to hang around until Vestergaard retires at the end of the new contract we give him personally!
-
The big difference is, we were a better side then, in the PL. This is the first time in recent times, that we have a prospect who has actually been playing well at the level we are at and overlooked them. Let’s say when we were doing well in the PL, I’d say KDH had been playing really well for a Palace or a Burnley or someone in the bottom half but in the PL. And at the same time, we had been playing Mendy or someone else average at the time and were struggling, people would have been demanding he be involved. I think that is as important to acknowledge as our own decrease in quality. Not really a compatible situation to when Barnes, Chilwell and KDH were brought through.

It seems it is assumed his is not good enough based on one poor 45 minutes actually. He has proven at performing well at this level more recently than Faes and Vestergaard. Why do they get a constant pass for being ok in 2023/24 but we can’t positively judge Nelson on his performances in 2024/25? And we are not Oxford. But each team plays the same other 23 over the season. Is it not more impressive at how good he was for Oxford given they were a weaker side in the league? They were much better when he was in the side. For me, it’s more impressive than Faes and Vestergaard being in a side that won the league but conceded quite a lot of goals and lost 11 games 2 years ago.
-
To be fair, Faes falling in a heap on the floor when he’s the last man and completely missing headers leaves us vulnerable. Vestergaard wondering up the pitch and being nearer the half way line whilst West Brom were scoring or standing making a feeble attempt to shield the ball and giving Wrexham the equaliser through it leaves us vulnerable. And all that’s in the last two games Edit - I forgot the Wout special, trying to run through the entire opposition, losing control of the ball, falling over and wiping out the Wrexham player and getting booked!
-
Who has said this? It’s only you saying this. It seems to be the same old ‘senior’ failures that have an inherent right to be picked week after week despite being directly responsible for goals conceded and points dropped. If they were performing well, there’d be a lot less clamour for Nelson to be given a chance. And that’s what it is, it’s not thinking he has an inherent right to be picked, it’s thinking he deserves to be given a chance and not thrown on the scrap heap after one poor 45 minutes. But by the way, yes it is constantly being used as a justification not to give him another chance by people who are obviously anti-youth players being given a chance.
-
Let’s be honest, even at their best in over 30 years, they weren’t good enough to qualify for the Europa League. So it’s hardly surprising that loopholing their way (whilst shafting another club in the process) into a competition they aren’t good enough for is going to end up like this.
-
And why is this constantly used as an excuse to not play him again whilst the rest of the get chance after chance and are consistently crap?
-
No he should have a chance as he has had 1 game and been written off by people like you whereas you are happy to clap along game after game as Vestergaard and Faes f*** up!
-
I gave Palace as an example as they have form for giving young players a chance. Honestly the only reason Nelson has to sign a new deal is if he has injury concerns in his mind and wants to secure himself rather than risking being a free agent. But even if he was signed by a PL side and loaned to a Championship side for the second half of the season, that would be ideal for him as he would have the security of a longer deal and pathway to PL football longer term, and in the short term, first team football in the Championship. Taking off blue tints, if you were his agent, that is the logical move.

I’m not sure she was the biggest problem. Clearly all of them a problem but the probably not as culpable as Ruskin and Aiyawatt. From the little I know admittedly.
-
Not every Premier League sides is a Chelsea or Man City. If someone like Palace sell Guehi and one for him (they have previous of tapping into the EFL market), that’s a great move for him. He will have loads of better options than us. This idea we can leave him out and expect him to just sign a new contract when we decide seems naive to me. It feels as likely that he isn’t keen. And it doesn’t mean we value him or see him as key. We have previous for refusing offers as interested parties aren’t meeting the valuation. £4mill for Iverson turned down?
-
I’m seeing a 4th choice who we have no interest in playing, who is further away from the first team than he was 2 years ago, who all has less than 2 years on his contract. Perfect storm for Premier League sides to come in for a bargain in January or next summer. From Nelson’s point of view, it’s a no brainer rather than extending with us.
-
Just sell him before his value drops any further as his contract gets closer to expiring. Somewhere around £5mill in January is probably fair and there would be takers at that.
-
Eyesight? Use there of…

How is Thomas a booking and Ramsay a red at Oxford but an arm in the face play on! Daka has transformed the attack, great one-two with James. I guess is the West Brom goal was Jakub’s fault then their keeper should have saved it. Much brighter but defence poor and sloppy, especially Hamza and Faes. Vestergaard has been fine. Thomas meh.
-
Fair. I have said before, when you have 9 subs, a couple of them should be academic players under a certain age (I.e not a Hamza or Thomas). And I don’t mean just us, I think that should have been a condition of the 9 subs rule when it came in. And perhaps a step further, the 5th sub to come on to be one of those that fits that criteria. That way if the game is tight and the manager doesn’t feel it is the right move, they aren’t obligated to use said kids. It feels that would have been a good think to encourage more changes for youth players generally. As we say, just getting that balance right. Everything seems very short term thinking but it’d just be refreshing to see a consideration for the future as well.
