Barnes, KDH, Chilwell, Hamza, Stolarcyk to name but a few all got better by spending time with sides playing twice a week, building their strength and conditioning against bigger players week in week out. The exception is probably Thomas who needed a loan but got thrown in the deep end. I'm sure it was Pearson who used to say the best prepared clubs did their business in the summer. It's always the case. Big money buys aren't available mid season, proper players are performing for proper clubs. There will always be an odd exception like a Huth or a Tielemans but they're rare beasts. January is more a time for the Ryan Bennetts of this world. If they come in now I'd be more wary than excited anyway
